First Look: Intruders
With Orphan Black proving that BBCAmerica are capable of producing their own original drama, it seems another one is coming and to be paired with the upcoming eighth series of Doctor Who as well for good measure.
Intruders is a eight part series from Glen Morgan, Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter. The series will star John Simm (Life On Mars, The Village) as Jack Whelan an ex-police officer with a dark, violent past whose wife, Amy, played by Mira Sorvino (Mimic, Human Trafficking) goes missing while James Frain (The Tudors, True Blood) plays Richard Shephard, a murderer posing as an FBI agent.
The series will focus on a secret society devoted to chasing immortality by seeking refuge in the bodies of others and has been described from the press release from BBCAmerica as a contemporary, chilling, paranormal tale set in the moody Pacific Northwest, the series spins a fascinating and complex web of drama. As strange, apparently unrelated events start happening, multiple story lines—a missing wife, an assassin covering his crimes, a child on the run—begin to intertwine to reveal a conspiracy that will forever change our understanding of human nature.
Having seen the trailer, I have to admit, it didn't exactly grab me in the same way that Orphan Black did but at the same time, the premise is decent (though based on the book, The Intruders by Michael Marshall Smith) and it looks spooky enough to give it a go as well. Plus, it's nice to see Simm back in something that looks a lot less grim than The Village.
