As it's been three weeks since the ending of Series 14 (Season 1), you'd think we'd get a little breather on the Doctor Who front. Yeah, not happening.
After sitting out San Diego Comic Con due to the actor and writers strikes last year, Doctor Who will be heading to Hall H on July 26th for an hour long panel from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. On that panel will be showrunner Russell T. Davies as well as series stars Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson, aka the 15th Doctor and Ruby Sunday.
The hour long panel will discuss all things in relation to the recent series that aired on BBC1 and Disney+. However we can expect more to be revealed there too. Quite possibly a certain spin off being finally confirmed or a trailer for upcoming Christmas special, Joy To The World with guest star Nicola Coughlan or perhaps details on Varada Sethu's companion Belinda for Series 15 (Season 2).
Meanwhile fans of both Doctor Who and Star Trek fans can enjoy an Intergalactic Friendship Panel: Star Trek x Doctor Who panel. This will be hosted by Alex Kurtzman and Russell T. Davies. The official BBC site has more details on this event during SDCC.
For those of you who had been missing the 13th Doctor and Yasmin Khan, well today, some brilliant news just got revealed. Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill will be reprising their beloved roles for Big Finish. Yup, you heard correctly.
The Chris Chibnall era of Doctor Who might have only ended back in October 2022 but in 2025, it'll be coming back with a vengeance. Confirmed months ago were box sets for both the Fugitive Doctor (Jo Martin) and the Spy Master (Sacha Dhawan). Now it's time for the 13th Doctor and Yasmin Khan to get their audio debut.
The upcoming series will comprise of 12 hour long stories due for release in July 2025, titled The Thirteenth Doctor Adventures. Details on writers, directors, guest cast and the stories themselves have to be confirmed but rest assured, when they are, I will definitely talk about them on here. I've been critical of Chibnall's era but this is fantastic news and I'm so happy for Jodie and Mandip as well.
Last but by no means least, that spin off. For the last year, it was rumoured to be a UNIT show, an anthology series on popular monsters, a former Doctor show and a series about the Sea Devils. Truth of the matter is, there's been a lot of rumours but will SDCC finally put us out of our misery and actually confirm what it actually is?
One of the persistent rumours has been the title for the show - The War Between The Land And The Sea. Those exact words were mentioned in the Series 14 episode, 73 Yards and there was a recent rumour of the spin off potentially featuring former 10th Doctor (David Tennant) companion, Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman). Not to mention Russell T. Davies also admitting that he planned to work with Eve Myles again. She played Gwen Cooper in Torchwood.
At this point, I'll take what I can get, spin off wise but the idea of both Martha Jones and Gwen Cooper appearing in this is too good and opportunity to pass up. In two weeks, I'll hopefully be reporting some very good news here.
The Doctor Who panel will be from July 26th from 12.30pm to 1.30pm at Hall H. Season 1 will be released on DVD, Blu-Ray and limited edition steelbook from August 12th 2024.
