The Returned - US Version Casting Announcement

The French zombie drama, The Returned (or Les Revanants) was one of the big hits of summer 2013 and with a second season in production and a rumoured UK version in the work, the US version, scheduled to air on A&E has revealed some of it's casting.

Mark Pellegrino, best known for his roles in Dexter, Supernatural, Lost, The Tomorrow People and Being Human has been cast in the lead role of Jack with  India Ennenga playing the role of Camille, one of the two daughters that Jack loses during a bus crash, only for the girl and her sister, Lena  to return four years later along with several others as a small town is turned upside down by the return of the people previously thought to be deceased.

Also in the cast is Once Upon A Time In Wonderland actress Sophie Lowe, who will play the role of Lena while Kevin Alejandro, best known for his roles in shows such as Arrow, True Blood, Ugly Betty and Southland will take on the role of accessible Sheriff Tommy Moran while Mat Vairo (Revolution) will take on the role of Simon for the remake.

I have to admit I'm a little apprehensive of this remake. On one hand, I can't fault the casting but on the other hand, will US television ever break the trend of remaking stuff? That being said, A&E are only doing 10 episodes for the first season and while that's two extra compared to the original, I can't imagine it'll pad the main plot strands of the first season out too much. Plus, they are the station responsible for the excellent Bates Motel, so that could bode and having the likes of Carlton Cuse, best known for his work on Lost could also work in this remake's favour as well.

The Returned US will air on A&E later in 2014.
