DCU Blog - April 2026 Edition: Clayface Trailer, Lanterns Airdate And Major Casting News

Well, April turned out to be one hell of a month for DC fans. There really was so much going on.

Adria Arjona has joined the cast of Man Of Tomorrow (July 9th 2027) but is she playing Maxima or Wonder Woman? Time will tell on that one. Filming has now begun on the Superman (2025) sequel. Andre Royo has also been cast in an undisclosed role.

Charles Dance has been cast as Christopher Dent for The Batman - Part II (October 1st 2027). Filming starts from June in London.

James Gunn has recently confirmed not to expect The Authority any time soon, due to the script not working out.

Season 3 of My Adventures With Superman will premiere at midnight from June 13th on Adult Swim's Toonami with a next day release on HBO Max.

Supergirl (June 26th 2026) got her flowers at both CinemaCon and CCXP Mexico this month. Both Milly Alcock and Craig Gillespie were promoting the movie at both events.

We will be seeing more of Sean Gunn's Maxwell Lord in future DCU projects. I imagine that'll be sooner than later.

James Gunn has also stated after filming for Man Of Tomorrow is complete, he'll discuss what is and isn't canon from The Suicide Squad and Blue Beetle in relation to the DCU. 

The first trailer for Clayface (October 23rd 2026) has been watched by over 11 millions views on YouTube so far. The movie will be set before the events of Superman (2025).

Funko Pops will be released for John Constantine, Midnighter, Apollo and Dreamer to commence with Pride Month.

Correction from last month but Dark Knights Of Steel will be released from July.

Lanterns will seemingly air on HBO from August 16th. The trailer is currently down.

Both Booster Gold and Paradise Lost are still in development with the latter being in extreme development.

Sidney Chandler is rumoured to be cast as Nosferata for the second season of Creature Commandos.

The fourth episode of the Krypto show is now available on YouTube.

DCU Blog - October 2025 Edition: MOT & TBPtII Updates, Supergirl Reshoots And More

It's nearly Halloween and October is almost at an end. Here's an update on what's been going on in the world of the DCU this month.

As of now, James Gunn's still working on the script for Man Of Tomorrow (July 9th 2027). A recent description for a character seems to suggest either Brainiac or Mongul as the main villain.

Colin Farrell has recently discussed both The Batman - Part II (October 1st 2027) and the now scrapped Sgt. Rock movie he was going to star in.

Warner Brothers is up for sale again and will be purchase by someone in 2026. As of now, they've currently rejected an offer from Paramount.

The Batman - Part II will take place a few weeks after the events of The Penguin.

Reshoots for Supergirl (June 26th 2026) are underway. It's also been confirmed the movie will be faithful to the source material.

Andy and Barbara Muschietti have confirmed they will have to wait a few months before they can talk about The Brave And The Bold. 

DC Studios have recruited Jock for the upcoming Dynamic Duo (June 30th 2028) animated movie.

Batman: Knightfall will be a four part animated movie, with the first part to be released in 2026.

Clayface (September 11th 2026), starring Tom Rhys Harries in the title role will finish filming this week.

James Gunn has confirmed that there are no plans for a third season of Peacemaker.

James Gunn also has had discussions with Keanu Reeves about a Constantine sequel but no script has been greenlit as of now.

Despite his current deal with Paramount, James Mangold is still interested in making a Swamp Thing movie for DC Studios.

The Bat-Fam animated series will premiere on Amazon Prime from November 10th.

No release date for Lanterns has been confirmed yet but a recent image did confirm Nathan Fillion's involvement as Guy Gardner in the show.

A Strange Adventures TV series is in development, though this has yet to be officially confirmed. 

In terms of comics, both Wonder Woman and Batman will crossover in their Absolute universes. Zatanna will also have a major in the Wonder Woman side of things.

DCU Blog - August 2025 Edition: Superman Follow Up Confirmed, Project Updates And Clayface Filming

It's been a month since Superman hit theatres and less than a fortnight since the start of Peacemaker. It's been another busy month for DC fans.

As of now, Superman (2025) has made over 611 million at the box office and went to digital on August 15th to purchase.

Both David Zaslav and James Gunn have confirmed that the latter will write and direct the follow up and it could be going into production sooner than expected.

Test screenings for Supergirl (June 26th 2026) have been positive. A trailer likely won't appear for another few months. 

Jeffrey Wright and Colin Farrell have both admitted to seeing the script for The Batman - Part II (October 1st 2027) recently. Filming will start next year. There's a rumour Zoe Kravitz might not be in this movie.

Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan have joined the cast of Clayface (September 11th 2026). Filming starts tomorrow in the UK.

James Gunn has admitted that things are going well for The Brave And The Bold, Wonder Woman, Paradise Lost and Booster Gold. Waller is still happening, despite moving slower.

The Krypto shorts (the first was released this month) are not canon to the DCU.

Kyle Rayner and Nikki Jones will factor in the upcoming My Adventures With Green Lantern animated series. Jessica Cruz will lead the show.

The second season premiere of Peacemaker (HBO Max) saw a 22% rise in viewers. There's also been hints of big cameos in the final three episodes, which have not been shown to the media.

Cary Christopher, Paula Patton and Laura Linney have been cast in undisclosed roles for the upcoming HBO series, Lanterns.

Other characters teaming up in the upcoming Batman/Deadpool book include John Constantine/Doctor Strange and Harley Quinn/The Hulk to name a few.

James Gunn has confirmed that another TV show that no one knew about will be one of the next things to film.

Margot Robbie has been asked recently about her future as Harley Quinn, last seen in The Suicide Squad. Right now, we're still none the wiser if she'll reprise the role in the DCU.

George Newborn has recently confirmed that Injustice 3 is happening.

A trailer for Lego Batman: Legacy Of The Dark Knight game was released this month.

Lauren LeFranc has signed a deal with HBO and there's been some talks about a potential second season of The Penguin.

And that's a rundown of the important DC news for this month. I also wrote a blog about a certain topic if you want to read that. 

Opinion Piece: Why I Think The Batman Universe Should Fold Into The DCU

I was so tempted to NOT write this piece and I can already tell the title will have certain people adamantly disagree. I should tell because up until a few weeks ago, I was one of those people. It's funny how things can change, huh?

Below are a list of reasons behind my new stance. Agree, disagree. Just be civil about it either way.

Less Complications: The biggest reason behind my new stance might not be a selfless one but here it is. The less complications DC has moving forward as a cinematic franchise, the better. Whether certain people are willing to admit it or not, having two live action versions of Batman at the same time will both overstretch the general audience and have more infighting among DC fans. Both of these things should be avoided moving with this franchise.

Comic Book Movie Fatigue: Which, according to some fans on social media doesn't exist. Hate to burst your bubble but it flipping does exist and if the way the comic book movies have performed internationally hasn't proved that, then what will? Iconic as Batman is, do you really think international audiences who are showing less interest in the genre want to see two versions of the same character? Not anymore they don't. Robert Pattinson has already proved himself in the role. Another actor, talented as they are might could struggle to win over everyone else.

The Gunn/Reeves Dynamic: I think we can all agree that with James Gunn, regardless of how you feel about him, he's been pretty respectful of Matt Reeves and has even defended the latter when fans accused Reeves of being too slow with the script for The Batman - Part II. Are you seriously telling me that Gunn/Reeves couldn't work something out that benefits both of them as filmmakers and doesn't confuse fans/general audiences? 

The Brave And The Bold: Let's be honest, does anyone genuinely believe this movie will see the light of day? Or that Andy Muschietti will still direct it? Think very long and very hard before answering that question. It's been over two and a half years since this movie has been announced and not a single bit of tangible progress seems to have been made. The idea has always felt like a backup plan and the longer we don't get any progress with it, the less likely it'll happen.

Matt Reeves Other Involvement: Doesn't anyone else find it rather odd that Matt Reeves has become involved in other Batman related projects that are not a part of his Epic Crime Universe? There's his role on Amazon Prime animated show, Batman: Caped Crusader and he's going to be a producer on the upcoming Clayface movie, starring Tom Rhys Harries. Does Reeves really need to be involved in Batman related projects if they're not in the same continuity as his universe with Robert Pattinson? Think about it for a moment.

Not Shutting The Rumour Down: Another thing that's hard not to think about is James Gunn doing very little to properly shut down the idea of a merge. Things like officially casting an actor for the DCU Batman, confirming the writer and director for The Brave And The Bold and giving that movie a potential release date would help put this whole merger idea to bed. The longer that James Gunn avoids doing any of that, the more likely a merging feels. Prove me wrong, James. Prove me wrong.

Moving Forward: Looking at DC for the next while, we've got the second season of Peacemaker, which will be having some Multiverse hijinks, then there's the detective themed HBO show Lanterns as well as a space revenge story with Supergirl. That's before we get to a Superman (2025) follow up that's been confirmed and of course The Batman - Part II, both likely to be released in 2027. Superman and Batman movies in the same year feels right. Sequels too I might add.

David Zaslav: I think people are also forgetting there's a pecking order at play too. Matt Reeves is answerable to James Gunn and Peter Safran but Gunn/Safran are also answerable to David Zaslav. The latter has made it clear that he doesn't want multiple versions of Batman at once and has cancelled multiple DC projects over the years. It's also no coincidence that Wonder Woman has been sped up while things like The Authority are looking less likely to happen. Zaslav wants instant results and very likely could make Gunn/Reeves merge. I certainly wouldn't put it past him to do such a thing.

They Just Look Good Together: Seriously, they do. You put images of Robert Pattinson and David Corenswet together and it feels right. I could genuinely see their versions of Batman and Superman playing off each other so well. Robert Pattinson wouldn't need to appear in multiple DCU projects outside a potential third movie in his own universe and a World's Finest team up and maybe one Justice League event to see out the DCU. That would be it at most.

The DCU Batman Fancasts Suck: Seriously, they really do. No matter how much comic book movie social media tries to convince me of the likes of Jensen Ackles, Alan Ritchson or Brandon Sklenar to name the three most overused fancasts choices, the more I'm reminded those men and other mentioned names are either too old for the part, don't look/give Batman vibes, aren't strong enough actors compared to Robert Pattinson or are even compelling to watch. Why take the risk when you already have a well received live action Batman who could go easily toe to toe with David Corenswet's Superman? And if Deadpool can get around originating in it's own space before being brought into the MCU, why can't the same happen with The Batman and the DCU without compromising Matt Reeves vision or Robert Pattinson's availability? It can be done.

Those are my thoughts on the matter. Should a merge happen? In my opinion, yes and for the stated reasons above. Will it happen? Right now, I'd say it's odds are 50/50. Time will tell though. Thoughts anyone?

DCU Blog - June 2025 Edition: Superman World Tour, The Batman Sequel Script Completed and Clayface Cast

When I say this was the busiest month for DC this year, I mean it. So much information came out. There's a lot to go over.

The World Tour for Superman (July 11th) kicked off with cast and crew visiting various countries to promote the movie.

Additional cast members for this movie include Bradley Cooper and Angela Sarafyan as Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van. Alan Tudyk, Jennifer Holland, Michael Rooker, Pom Klementieff, Grace Chan and Michael Rosenblum will voice robots in the movie. Stephen Blackehart will also appear as Sydney Happersen.

Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow will now be titled Supergirl (June 26th 2026). The movie is currently in post production.

James Gunn has confirmed that a Wonder Woman film is in development being currently written. It'll be connected to prequel series, Paradise Lost.

After waiting for the longest time, Matt Reeves and Mattson Tomlin announced that the script for The Batman - Part II (October 1st 2027) is now complete.

Meanwhile, James Gunn has confirmed that he's also working closely with the writer for The Brave And The Bold. 

A draft for the Deathstroke and Bane movie has been written. So far, that's it really.

Peacemaker Season 2 (August 21st HBO Max) will be the focus at Hall H for SDCC next month.

Tom Rhys Harries has been cast as Clayface (September 11th 2026). Filming will start in the UK in October.

James Gunn has also started writing his next film after Superman. I'm sure that'll be announced after next month.

Filming for Lanterns will be completed next month. The show will air on HBO in 2026.

It's also been confirmed that Waller is still in development and that a Teen Titans script is being written by Ana Nogueira.

Season 2 of The Sandman arrives this month on Netflix. Eps 1-6 from July 3rd, eps 7-11 from July 24th and a final special from July 31st.

Creature Commandos will air on Sky for UK/Irish viewers from July 8th at 2am/11pm respectively.

An R-Rated animated series for Mister Miracle is in development. Tom King will be involved with the show.

James Gunn has confirmed that there are complexities involving Static Shock. I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.

Now that Pride Month is coming to an end today, I thought I'd list my favourite LGBT characters. A Top 10 list so to speak. You won't be shocked by it. Here goes.

DCU Blog - February 2025 Edition: Massive Updates/New Projects Announced, Puppy Bowl and The Sandman Cancelled

I mean this was an eventful month but the last few days, it really was a hell of a time to be a DC fan.

This month had some Superman (2025) promo at the Puppy Bowl with a brief look at the upcoming movie. Another trailer will be coming soon. July 11th 2025. Rick Strauss will help with the marketing for the movie.

Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow is currently halfway through filming. It will be released in theatres from June 26th 2026.

Sgt. Rock has officially been confirmed by James Gunn with Luca Guadagnino directing from a script written by Justin Kuritzkes. However, Daniel Craig isn't attached to play the title character.

James Gunn has also confirmed that Ana Nogueira has written a script for Teen Titans while a writer has been confirmed for The Brave And The Bold. Gunn will be working close to that writer but Andy Muschietti might not direct the film after all.

Bad news for Wonder Woman fans as it was confirmed this week that the upcoming game has been cancelled. However, there's been talks NetherRealms and RockSteady for future DCU games.

DC will be teaming with Mattel again for action figures in 2026. 

James Watkins has been tapped to direct Clayface (September 11th 2026), which will start filming during the summer. Casting coming soon.

Yet again, the script for The Batman - Part II hasn't been handed in. The film is still due to be released in theatres from October 1st 2027.

Development for Dynamic Duo (June 30th 2028) is underway but it's unclear if it'll be a DCU movie or an Elseworlds one.

James Gunn and Zack Snyder recently took a photo together but the latter isn't returning to the world of DC.

Natasha Lyonne and Ana Lily Amirpour have teamed up to bring Vertigo series, Basketful Of Heads as a live horror comedy series.

In less good news, the following DCU projects have hit speed bumps - Waller, Booster Gold, Swamp Thing and The Authority.

Filming for Lanterns has begun and a first look image of Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler's John Stewart and Hal Jordan has been released. It will air on HBO in early 2026. The show could run for multiple seasons.

The goal for DC projects per year will be two live action movies, one animated movie, two live action shows and two animated shows. Some will be DCU and others will be Elseworlds.

A pilot episode for Wonder Woman prequel series, Paradise Lost is currently being written.

The animated Blue Beetle series with Xolo Mariduena reprising the role will be greenlit soon. 

Matthew Orton has been confirmed to be writing a DC movie but it's not been confirmed if it's one involving the characters, Deathstroke and Bane.

There's been talks about DC themed park rides at Six Flags as well as some new character skins for Fortnite.

In news that's not too shocking, Netflix announced that the second season of The Sandman will be it's final season. A release  date has yet to be confirmed.

The second season of Peacemaker will be released on Max from August 2025. Expect a new theme song as well. 

The Penguin keeps winning the awards and it's possible that a second season could happen, though Colin Farrell has expressed some doubt about it.

The following animated shows have been announced - DC Super Powers, Starfire, Krypto (series of seasonal shorts) and My Adventures With Green Lantern. The latter will focus on Jessica Cruz and be set in the same universe as My Adventures With Superman.

In tragic news, Gene Hackman passed away yesterday along with his wife and dog. Condolences to their loved ones.

Both Keanu Reeves and Francis Lawrence are pushing to get that Constantine sequel made. It hasn't been greenlit as of yet.

What a month and what a lot of news to mull over. DC fans really do have a lot to look forward to for the next while.

DCU Blog - December 2024 Edition: Superman Trailer, Batman Delayed And Lobo Cast

Well, it wouldn't be DC without a month of delightful chaos and this month was certainly chaotic in the best (and slightly worst) way possible.

December 19th saw the first trailer for Superman (2025) released and so far, it's clocked in over 50 million views on YouTube. The general reception has been positive. It will be released in theatres from July 11th 2025.

Creature Commandos has been renewed for a second season. The first season concludes on January 9th on Max.

James Gunn has confirmed that The Brave And The Bold hasn't been delayed, in response to a recent interview with Andy Muschietti that implied it had been.

Filming for Lanterns will now take place in February. Aaron Pierre has talked about playing John Stewart in recent interviews. Nathan Dillon is also expected to appear as Guy Gardner as well.

The sequel to The Batman has been delayed and will now be released on October 1st 2027. It will get a new title.

Frank Grillo has talked about enjoying his DC experience in recent interviews. He'll next be seen in Superman (2025) and the second season of Peacemaker. 

Jenna Coleman has revealed in recent interviews that she's returning as Johanna Constantine for the second season of The Sandman. It'll be released on Netflix in 2025.

Development on a potential project for The Flash is on hold for the time being.

In the worst kept secret going, it's been revealed that Jason Momoa will play Lobo in Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow. The film begins filming January 13th for a June 26th 2026 theatrical release.

Rumours for the Teen Titans movie are that the movie (yet to be greenlit) will use the line up from the animated series 

The Dynamic Duo movie, featuring Dick Grayson and Jason Todd will be released in theatres on June 30th 2028.

Sgt. Rock is also rumoured to film in the second half of 2025. It will likely get a 2027 release date.

Mike Flanagan has written the script for Clayface and while the director has yet to be confirmed, filming begins in early 2025 for a September 11th 2026 theatrical release.

The fifth season of Harley Quinn will premiere on Max from January 16th.

James Gunn has recently followed Jurnee Smollett on Instagram. Is she a potential return for Black Canary, a new DCU casting or neither?

The Penguin managed to crack into the Nielsen's Top 10 and has earned Golden Globe nominations, including ones for both Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti. 

And that's your lot for 2024. It's been a bumpy but never boring year for DC and I have a feeling 2025 will be similar in that regard.
