Rajan (to Kala and the Clusters): "My God, I didn't think such things were possible."

Last year after a trailblazing second season, Netflix unfortunately bore the bad news of cancelling this show. A month later, fans got a brief reprieve when Netflix also announced a two hour series finale to wrap up the show. Add an extra thirty minutes into the mix and they made good on their promise.

Yup, this was one hell of an extended series finale but it certainly didn't waste any time though. First of all, the gang had kidnapped both Whispers and Jonas the last time we saw them and they were determined to rescue Wolfgang. While it took over half of this special to do that, the journey to getting to that point was something else altogether.

We got a better insight into Wolfgang's childhood and it was certainly messier than previously thought but more importantly, we did see him trying to save himself before the exchange for Whispers went predictably awry with Lila in a nightclub. Speaking of Lila, she somewhat stepped up a little as an antagonist here with Whispers mostly reduced to be a pathetic nonentity of a baddie. I mean, there was a moment where he nearly got away from Amanita and Daniella but other than that, he wasn't quite the villain of the piece.

Lila stepped into that role a little better, managing to strong arm the Chairman (who despite some focus on did lack a little as a baddie too) into getting her own way but as this episode needed to wrap things up, the Chairman, Whispers and Lila were all disposed off rather quickly. Normally this would be something to complain about but I found there was more than enough to keep this episode going and their deaths did happen at the end of Jonas and Angelica's long game plan coming to fruition though.

The highlight of this finale wasn't just seeing all the Clusters working together to stop the BPO. It was seeing them bringing everyone else into the mix as well. This show has done wonders with it's supporting cast and it was fantastic to see Hernando, Amanita, Daniella, Rajan, Bug, Mun, Felix and Diego all step into the fray to help save the day along with the Old Man of Hoy, Puck and his Clusters and even new BPO lady River promising a better era for the shady organisation as well as Zakia popping as well afterwards.

Then there was Nomi and Amanita's wedding in Paris. It was a beautiful way to end things, except for the fact that following both Demons and Happy Fucking New Year, one more orgy had to take place and it was as tastefully done and as sexy as the previous two we've seen and with a certain final image, it's really timely this special came out in the month of Pride.

- The title aptly means Love Conquers All. If that isn't a perfect title for this show's finale, I don't know what else would've been.
- The show featured Linda Perry in a brief scene and also had a For The Fans dedication to it.
- Standout music: Clean Bandit's Rather Be and Experience by Ludovico Einaudi during a certain scene.
- Chronology: From where You Want A War more or less left off.

It's felt like so much ground has been covered and it's felt like it's too soon for this show to be ending. Conflicting feelings no doubt but for a final episode, Amor Vincit Omnia certainly was a tribute to this breathtaking show. An exquisite ending for an exquisite show. Will, Riley, Nomi, Lito, Capheus, Sun, Wolfgang, Kala and all of your friends and lovers will be missed. It's a shame that Netflix didn't see this through for the five season plan it was meant to be but at least we got this beautiful finale.

Sense8 - Netflix Commissions A Two Hour Special

June was the month for Pride and while we had some great stuff last month, one of the misfires was Netflix announcing that Sense8 would come to an end after two seasons. Fans were upset and angry, especially as the second season had ended on a cliffhanger that was looking unlikely to be resolved.

Then we head towards the end of June and it seemed that fan outcry actually worked for once. Netflix announced on Thursday that the show would be coming back as a two hour special next year. Netflix shared the letter on its official account, along with a video tribute to the sci-fi series. "After seeing that the cancellation was a total cluster, we decided to give Sense8 fans the ending they totally deserve," said a Netflix spokesperson.

This is fantastic news and while this doesn't guarantee anything more than this upcoming special, at least it means we'll get a resolution to the overall series arc and have one more episodes of our favourite Cluster members. I cannot wait to see it and I'm imagining that it'll possibly be another Christmas special as well.

Sense8 - You Want A War?

Will (to Whispers): "You want a war? We'll give you one!"

And the show ended there? Really, Netflix? I get that this series is super expensive to make and while I can understand if not approve of your reasons behind cancelling it, would it kill you to give us at least another Christmas special to tie up the remaining loose ends?

This episode itself though, whilst great, still felt very set up though. Lila made an unwelcome return and it turned out that Cannibal and Whispers are the same person and poor Wolfgang ended up being kidnapped and tortured by the guy with Kala's identity also being outed in the mix. Another reason for an extra episode should be Lila getting her just desserts too.

However the episode did take a more interesting twist when Kala worked on more blockers and Will managed to deceive Whispers into actually meeting him publicly for a change. I have to admit, the twist genuinely surprised but there was something joyous in seeing the tables turn on Whispers along with Jonas also having to suffer some consequences for his flip flopping ways too.

Of course though, we didn't actually see Wolfgang rescued and now we'll never know if he is (one assumes he would've been in another episode/season, Netflix) but when he wasn't being tortured, he was instrumental in Sun's storyline and things between him and Kala were also about to move forward in a big way too.

Speaking of Sun, her storyline took something of a mixed turn. On one hand, Mun showed up to the Gala to arrest her brother but he ended up being shot and while Sun came close to actually taking out her treacherous sibling, the police turned up to arrest her. On the plus side and with the grudging help from Puck, she did manage to escape them but at the same time, it seems like we're still back at square one with her being on the run from the law. Unless Mun succeeds in punishing her brother off screen of course.

As for the rest of the episode, Kala came close to telling Rajan that she had voices in her head but he sort of took the wind out of her sails with his own reveal. Anyone hoping that Rajan wouldn't become a villain, you'll be relieved to know that instead he's going to be informing on them instead (including on his mate that clearly fancies Kala and left that wedding gift a few episodes back). It's not a bad reveal and I bet had we more episodes/seasons to enjoy, then Rajan probably would've been a dead man walking because of this storyline.

- Nomi and Amanita both proposing to each other was pretty sweet and lovely. Another thing we won't get to see now.
- Another Cluster visited Capheus in this episode while Puck's infatuation with Riley has effected his hairstyle. We also saw another woman from his Cluster but no Old Man Of Hoy though. Not a lot of Hernando and Daniela in this one either.
- The fact that all of the gang (and Amanita) are actually together in London is fantastic. I loved that moment. Damn you, Netflix, I want more.
- Chronology: From where the previous episode left off.

You Want A War? is a great season finale, loaded with some brilliant action sequences, character moments and a promise of more to come. Except we're not going to get it and while I'm usually resigned to shows I love getting cancelled at times, this is one of those times where it stings a little. While I wasn't expecting the show to run for multiple seasons and get that it's expensive as hell to make, it's sad though that we won't get some resolution to what's ultimately been a very compelling two year arc with eight of the best characters I've seen in the last few years. A shame, Netflix.

Sense8 - If All the World's A Stage, Identity Is Nothing But A Costume

Hernando (to Lito): "So tell me, my love… If your dream isn’t worth the risk, what is?"

The penultimate episode of the season and unfortunately now, series (and yes, I will rant about Netflix's ill advised decision to cancel this wonderful show but that'll be for later though) but while things didn't progress on the BPO front aside from Whispers being a right C U next Tuesday about Will losing his father, other stuff of interest did happen in the episode.

For instance, Lito's Hollywood career is off to a bit of a flying start. Thanks to Sun's emotive skills, he managed to successfully bag that movie role that Daniela set up for him in the previous episode then sees Lito. Hernando and Daniela attending the type of vacuous Hollywood party that we've seen on countless US shows over and over again but on the plus side, at least Lito's soon to be co-star, Blake was playing by a familiar face. Extra points allotted for getting Cheyenne Jackson to appear in this series.

As for Hernando, once again he gave an inspired speech to a hesitant Lito and then we had a gorgeous sex scene between the pair of them on the beach. This is going to be another thing I am seriously going to miss about the show.

When Lito wasn't bagging movie roles though, things were a little more serious as Capheus's first public speech ended up in another riot and attempt on his life. The assassin bloke though from the last episode ended up saving Capheus's life in this one, which was a nice enough surprise. That said, Capheus's political storyline has gotten very dangerous very fast for him though.

Meanwhile, Sun was putting her own plan into action to get back at her brother. With Lito's cocktail making skills, she bagged a job at his gala and the last few minutes of the episode had the rest of the Clusters banding together to help Sun get justice for herself. However with one more episode, will she be able to achieve that or will she end up killing her sibling?

- Kala and Wolfgang were making some progress in order to get together properly. I did like Kala/Riley's conversation at the start of the episode.
- Angelica showed up to briefly comfort Will as a contrast to the sadistic pleasure that Whispers took in the death of Will's father.
- Very little of Nomi in this episode or was that just me? Nice to see Zakia again though and that Marc Jacobs cameo too.
- Chronology: A few days from where What Family Actually Means left off I think.

If All the World's A Stage, Identity Is Nothing But A Costume wins the award for longest episode title we've had on the show but as a penultimate, it didn't push anything BPO wise remotely forward but still won for all the lovely little moments throughout. I am now anticipating and dreading the finale just that little bit more though.

Sense8 - What Family Actually Means

Will: "No, Dad, don't go!"

Okay, I really didn't see that coming either. With all the other stuff going on in this episode, I wasn't expecting Will's father to show up and die at the very end. I'm not gonna lie - he's not a character I greatly cared about in the first season even if later episodes tried to make him more sympathetic but the impact of his death was certainly felt here though.

Of course it was Riley who had to see Will's father die along with Will also witnessing it but along with some poignant flashbacks, the last scene really did pack an emotional punch. Just when you think you can predict what the show will do next, it surprises once again.

Keeping with the family theme, Nomi, Amanita and Bug attended the former's sister's rehearsal dinner and then wedding, both filled with discussion worthy moments. Nomi did slightly make her wedding speech to Tegan a little about herself but it was a nice way of also showing much support Tegan has been to Nomi and when Agent Bendix disrupted Tegan and Tom's wedding, we got a nice moment where her father stepped in as well.

However while two thirds of Nomi's family have been supportive towards her, Janet on the other hand still remains quite horrible. On both occasions she was a bitch to Nomi but hopefully with the way things escalated in this one, her treatment of Nomi will no longer be tolerated in future episodes.

Meanwhile Lito managed to snap out of his funk when Daniela found him the perfect part to play. The best part however was seeing Daniela in full agent mode, blagging Lito an audition for the part and the bemusement of both Lito and Hernando while she worked her magic. With the three of them heading to the US, it can't be long before Lito and Nomi actually meet face to face, right?

As for Capheus, his political storyline intensified a little as he fled from would be kidnappers/killers while learning that the man who wants to help him is also in love with his mother. Compared to the other strands this episode, it's probably the weaker one of the bunch and I kind of miss seeing Zakia as well, who seems to have disappeared.

- Kala got left a suspicious looking from Ajay while Rajan was away this episode. I did like Kala's scenes with her mother in this one.
- Wolfgang has decided to finally get out of Berlin while Sun helped Nomi deal with Tom's asshole of a best man.
- Will was seen by his father at the end. That could raise some questions but it could also be just have been a signal that he was dying too.
- Chronology: A couple of days since the events of All I Want Right Now Is One More Bullet. Lila was nowhere to be seen here either, though we had some Whispers/Angelica flashbacks and learned Riley's BPO contact was called Carol Cumberland, who's dead now.

What Family Actually Means had some nice moments on the topic and while very little was actually advanced with the ongoing BPO plot or much sensate interactions, this was still an incredibly enjoyable episode.

Sense8 - All I Want Right Now Is One More Bullet

Lila (to Wolfgang): "I'm going to enjoy scraping you off my shoe like the dogshit that you are."
Kala: "Bring it bitch!"

Ah, yes - one of the most standout moments in the Season 2 trailer for the show and it appeared here when Wolfgang chose not to go with Lila's insane plan to have Berlin become a sensate only hotspot. Kala certainly chimed in with her hatred for Lila but it turned out to be justified considering that Lila and her Cluster are absolutely nuts.

This show continues to deliver on the action sequences and the sparring Clusters (minus Nomi, who knocked herself out, I kid you not) at the restaurant with the ensuing gun fighting was truly a stunning moment to behold. Lila's certainly exposed herself to be as big a threat to the gang as Whispers/BPO. On the plus side though, at least Wolfgang has seen Lila and her Clusters for who they truly are though.

Of course when we weren't getting that stylishly choreographed shoot out, we also had the issue of Whispers to deal with. Both Jonas and Wolfgang managed to talk Will out of doing something reckless while the former also revealed that he made his own deal with the devil to stay alive. It seems that Jonas is more useful to the BPO alive than dead, which for some reason isn't that surprising. Though truth be told, it's just more that he's on borrowed time than anything else.

Speaking of Whispers, he might have gotten out of dodge with his family, but it's become more evident that he's rather screwed himself. I do wonder if the writers are setting up a scenerio where our Clusters are going to have work with Whispers for the greater good or something in the last few episodes?

As for the rest of the episode, there was a huge focus on Lito's depression. Parts of the episode really upped the ante on him mourning his career with even Sun somewhat side eyeing him a little but there was an added poignancy when he fully explained to Hernando and Daniela about his dream dying during a viewing of From Here To Eternity. Hopefully though the next episode will see Lito making some moves to try and relaunch his career though.

- Riley and Amanita technically met in this episode when Nomi knocked her out. I also continued to enjoy the Will/Riley/Diego team up as they looked for the BPO contact from last episode.
- Capheus's political aspirations this week involved a smear campaign and a guy pointing a gun at him for good measure. Sun meanwhile was hiding out in a love hotel.
- I liked that Kala talked to Will about his heroin use in this one. Also, the show is really making Rajan look more and more dodgy, aren't they?
- Chronology: From where I Have No Room For Hate In My Heart left off.

All I Want Right Now Is One More Bullet definitely delivered on that final confrontation alone. Seeing two groups of Clusters going at each other was brilliant and while Lito's plot felt too comedic at times until the last bit of it, I did enjoy it along with the Capheus moments.

Sense8 - I Have No Room For Hate In My Heart

BPO Contact (to Riley): "That voice never shouts, it only whispers."

Well, this one ended on another shocker, didn't it? Riley's trip to Chicago saw her meeting up with Will's former partner, Diego and encountering that rather cryptic BPO contact who gave us a bit more information on Whispers while Will encountered Jonas just as himself, Wolfgang and Sun were about to take out Whispers. I didn't see that one coming to be honest.

I guess Jonas being alive though shouldn't be too shocking as we didn't really see him graphically die but him appearing at the end still surprised me. It seems though like Angelica, perhaps Jonas is now under Whispers influence too, giving our Clusters one more disadvantage to contend with as well.

I quite liked Riley going on her own and meeting up with Diego and then the BPO contact in Chicago. I also liked that while Will was naturally worried about her, everyone else believed that she would be fine and even the tension with Diego and Will too was nicely handled. However Riley's excursion to Chicago wasn't the highlight of the episode.

If anything, it was Sun who had the highlights for this particular one. First of all, there was the poignant scene where she visited her parents grave with the other Clusters offering her advice on her brother and then there was the rematch between herself and Detective Mun.

Seriously the flirting and fighting with those two was off the charts to watch. Immense chemistry between and it's great that Mun genuinely seems to believe in Sun's innocence as well. However I can't help but think that Sun is going to end up considering Wolfgang's advice in how to deal with her brother than wait for Mun to arrest him though.

Elsewhere we had some conflict between Capheus and his mother when Zakia let slip out about the former getting into politics while Kala and Rajan also conflicted over the latter's lack of ethics with shipping off dangerous drugs to other countries. While I'm glad the show is giving Rajan a little more of an edge, I don't want him to become a baddie though.

- Some nice downtime scenes with Nomi and Amanita as we got more scenes with the latter's mother and three fathers. Some rather pointed comments on terrorism, which in light of recent events stuck out more.
- Todd, the Cluster member that didn't want to be one shot up a church on Whispers orders. The Old Man from Hoy also made another appearance this week.
- I loved the subplot with Lito/Hernando protecting Daniela from her abusive ex and awful parents. The hot guy who hugged Lito in the lift after the latter lost his agents was another high point of this episode.
- Not long from where Isolated Above, Connected Below left off.

I Have No Room For Hate In My Heart delivered on the beautiful moments, the topical moments and certainly the shocks. It's also become one of my favourite episodes from the season and with four more to go, I really don't want this show to end.

Sense8 - Isolated Above, Connected Below

Lito (to Sao Paolo Pride): "This is Hernando. He is the love of my life. I am a better and braver person because of him."

I know the Sao Paolo Pride scene was actually a smaller plot than the hype for the season led viewers to believe but without a doubt, it was also the best moment from the episode. Lito has come quite a long way in regards to his sexuality and this episode highlighted that as himself, Hernando and Daniela attended the Pride event.

Seeing him on stage confessing his fears before talking about his love for Hernando and embrace being a gay man resonated beautifully onscreen and while it was a smaller story in a far bigger and longer episode, it was also my favourite bit in this one.

Of course the bigger strands of the episode involved Riley and Will meeting up with the lecherous Puck and the Old Man from Hoy once again. While the former was annoying cryptic about blockers (as was Lila with Wolfgang), the latter turned out to be somewhat more useful to Riley by actually giving out some information.

Having Sylvester McCoy join the show was a nice move for this Doctor Who fan and I really liked the scenes between Hoy and Riley as the pair of them began to trust one another. While we didn't actually get the name of the Cannibal revealed to us, we do know that Riley has to go to Chicago alone for more answers.

However given a flashback scene involving Angelica and her Cluster from beforehand, I guess we really aren't going to like what could be revealed to us. Even Angelica herself seems to be showing something of a dark side given the flashback scenes we had in this episode while Will had a rather unsettling body experience with Whispers in this one too.

As for some of the other smaller plots - Zakia opened up to Capheus about her bisexuality and the two of them I guess are now a couple with her encouraging him to run for politics while Sun left her mentor and Kala and Wolfgang also did the deed this week. The scene with Rajan being somewhat caught in the mix though was another highlight for the episode.

- We had scenes with Capheus's mother and Nomi's sister in this episode too. The latter is called Tegan, so another reference to a certain show there.
- We met a member of Lila's Cluster, who also thought Wolfgang was hot. I loved the whole 'viral' scene where Hoy was getting information for Riley. Oh and beautiful Highlands too.
- We learned what happened to Raoul in this one and saw Metzer in flashbacks.
- Chronology: Few days from where Fear Never Fixed Anything left off.

A very strong episode, Isolated Above, Connected Below had some gorgeous characters bits, sex scenes galore (Kala/Wolfgang, Capheus/Zakia), few good action sequences, that beautiful Pride sequence and the last few minutes certainly upped the ante rather nicely too.

Sense8 - Fear Never Fixed Anything

Wolfgang (to everyone): "Fear never fixed anything."

A very true sentiment there and here we got an episode where courage a little to the forefront for several of the Clusters. For Will and Riley, it was about them reaching out to other Clusters in a lovely public event, while at the same time putting themselves further into Milton and the BPO's cross hairs.

It was a reckless thing for them to do, but it's not like they didn't have a choice. Reaching out to other Clusters isn't a guarantee that the BPO can be taken down but at least the gang are actually trying to do something and seeing them come together during that moment while the introduction of another sensate in the form of Seventh Doctor, Sylvester McCoy was a sublime little moment.

Of course while this main plot is still advancing slowly enough we did have Bug introduce Nomi and Amanita to The Guy who was able to give them the tech to make them both "e-dead" while at the same time indicating that she will own the mystery person a favour at some point in the series. On the other hand, at least Nomi and Amanita can breathe a little easier for the time being.

Elsewhere Capheus found himself being singled out by a political party who wanted him for their group while learning a little more about Zakia from some of the most obnoxious interns going. Having read the spoilers for this season, I already know that what we learned about Zakia won't stand in the way of them getting together but it was hard to gauge how Capheus actually felt about the news itself though.

Meanwhile Sun had a lovely reunion with both her dog and former mentor while punching the television when her horrible brother appeared on it. I'm loving the more vengeance oriented Sun at the moment and the inclusion of Detective Mun, who might be more of an ally than a problem for Sun is also a nice twist. Also shallow note, he's bloody gorgeous too.

As for Lito - I did sympathise with him getting offered so many dud roles but at the same time, I also liked that a past encounter he had with a bar manager resulted in something positive and that he found the courage to accept an invitation to a pride event in Sao Paolo as grand master as well. Not to mention the fanboy moment between him and Bug made me howl with laughter as well.

- I'm sensing a lot of in family fighting between Kala and Rajan's respective clans at the moment. Wolfgang also tried to distance himself a little from Lila this week.
- The Guy was wearing a V For Vendetta mask when they met Nomi, Amanita and Bug in the cinema. I see what you did there, Lana.
- Standout music: Nice use of What's Going On once again.
- Chronology: From where Polyphony left off.

Not quite as strong as the previous episode but still rather impressive though. Fear Never Fixed Anything certainly saw our group conquering some fears but Milton is still pretty determined to take them out and he's getting creepier with each passing episode too.

Sense8 - Polyphony

Raoul (to Lito): "There are people you meet in your life and for no logical reason, you feel connected to."

On this show, we know that's quite a literal thing. The previous episode saw Wolfgang meet another Cluster member in Lila as well as showing flashbacks to Lito's previous involvement with Angelica's fellow Cluster member, Raoul and this episode somewhat went into more depth with the latter and quite brilliantly too might I add.

From the last episode, Lito and Raoul met one another when the former was still closeted but there was definitely a nice connection with the two of them as we saw in flashbacks. In the present day though we met Raoul's father, who took to Lito and showed him a rather gruesome video of Todd being zombified by Milton while another flashback showed a heartbreaking moment where Raoul called his father in a near catatonic state with Angelica assisting him.

Right now, Raoul seems to be missing, so there's a chance he might actually show up in the present day and I certainly hope he does. Meanwhile Wolfgang told the rest of the gang about Lila and had a pretty interesting three way conversation between her and Kala in the bathroom. As for Lila, she did admit that she's somewhat working with Milton and told Wolfgang to find a way of getting the BPO onside. It's interesting that Lila isn't hiding her shadiness from Wolfgang.

Elsewhere we had Anamita in a pretty stunning sequence (in an episode that had plenty of them) where she had to avoid the overzealous Agent Bendix from getting to her while Nomi and the gang also experienced a protest in Mumbai (Kala's scenes with her mother) and Nairobi (Capheus being interview by Zakia again) as Riley went to a guy to learn more about the drugs that Milton uses to suppress being found by other Clusters. Lito and Kala's reactions during that particular scene were priceless.

As for Sun, she mostly had some great scenes with Ming-Jun but it didn't take long for the law to actually catch up with the pair of them. While Ming-Jun was prepared to go back to prison, Sun did try to escape and her rooftop hand to hand combat with Mun brought about some nice flashbacks as the two of them have a previous connection with each other that should make later encounters more interesting to watch.

However the real shocker of the episode came at the end with Jonas actually being killed and Milton making sure that Will and the gang saw it. It was brief but brutal enough and while I guess Jonas being killed was always inevitable, I'm surprised they did it here though. That being said, it really does go to show just how dangerous Milton has become now for everyone.

- No Hernando in this episode or Daniella. Bug's reaction to learning about the Sensates was as hysterical as the Lito/Riley hysterics used to help Will escape the museum.
- I'm surprised that Kala wasn't able to sense Lila during that scene but Lila could somewhat sense her though. I guess maybe Lila just wanted to make sure only Wolfgang could interact with her.
- Not really any sexy moments in the episode aside from Lito/Raoul briefly in flashback.
- Chronology: Exactly where Obligate Mutualism left off.

Easily the best episode so far. While I've enjoyed the first two episodes of this season, Polyphony was the one that really propelled things for me. The last scene was a shocker but the main plot is definitely ramping up a gear and as usual the character moments continue to be beautiful to watch as well.

Sense8 - Obligate Mutualism

Croome (to Will): "What I want from you is time and trust."

And we're back. Five months ago, we were a prelude to the second season with a two hour Christmas special that was high on the feels factor but somewhat low on actually advancing anything with the ongoing Whispers plot. After the opening episode, this episode still has some of the feels but it's mainly focused on giving us a far bit more with Whispers though.

First of all, the episode began with Will and the rest of the Sensates reading Milton the riot act and making a few demands so they could see Jonas once again. The episode also lead down the path of believing that Milton's days were numbered with the seemingly more cooperative Croome stepped in and Milton was taken away.

Then the episode ended on a far different note. With Will and Croome actually coming close to striking a mutual trust and assurance that the BPO could go back to being more benevolent towards Clusters, Milton had to show up at the last minute with an unknown female assassin to royally wreck things but thanks to this episode we did learn a little more though.

Thanks to Jonas, we now know there are possibly tens of thousand of Clusters actually out there and this episode alone, we also learned that Lito met one of Jonas's former Cluster mates while Wolfgang has now also gotten involved with one himself, named Lila along with an embezzling storyline involving Felix and some other guy that Lila is working for.

Going by the trailer for the new season, Wolfgang's involvement with Lila is not going to be good for him or the gang. If Wolfgang and company are the nice Clusters, then Lila and her lot are the baddies of the piece and that's going to lead to one hell of a smack down later into the season itself.

Outside of learning a little more about Whispers and Clusters, another focus of the episode was Sun getting out of prison. Namely because of another hit on her life and easily the episode's most intense four minutes going but seeing Sun finally get out of there was nice, even if she is a wanted woman and had to break her older prison mate out too, but considering how the latter saved her along with the rest of the gang, it's only far she gets to come along for the ride.

As for the rest of the gang, not too much happened with them. Both Kala and Capheus had little to do outside the Sun and Jonas bits and when Lito wasn't dealing with career rejection, he was also playing house with Hernando and Daniela while Nomi and Amanita were craving a date night of their own as Will and Riley met with Jonas.

- Aside from Wolfgang and Lila, the episode was a little lighter on the sex than expected. Lito did have a thing with Raoul in flashback as did Jonas/Angelica.
- Lovely moment in the episode with Jonas and his father too and I do like Bug's comparing Nomi and Amanita to Charlie's Angels.
- How many of Jonas's Cluster are actually alive? Could both Todd and Raoul still be out there perhaps?
- Chronology: Not too long since the Christmas special I imagine.

Obligate Mutualism was a good way of opening things up further. Not quite as amazing as the back half of the first season or the Christmas special, but it certainly piqued a lot of interest, serving as an excellent reminder that Milton is serious trouble, showing new Clusters and furthering the connection with the Cluster we know and love the best.

Sense8 - Who Am I?

Will (to Milton): "You think you're hunting us? We're coming for you!"

First of all, apologies, I got the episodes mixed up and accidentally reviewed the second episode of the new season before the first one. Realizing my error, I'm now making the right alterations and posting the correct review but again, apologies though.

It's been a while since the events of the Christmas special and things for Will certainly haven't been a barrel of laughs. His attempts of using drugs to blot out Milton's presence is starting to have an adverse affect on him and Milton certainly seemed to be having fun in taunting Will. 

I have to admit the back and forth with the two of them is certainly a highlight of the episode with Milton really proving his nastiness throughout their scenes together. As a villain, he's certainly getting more and more menacing as he made his intentions to recapture Riley pretty clear when he was gleefully taunting Will during their exchange.

Of course with Will getting more intel on Milton, we also saw both Nomi and Amanita doing their bit to learn more about the baddies of the piece. Seeing the two of them in investigative mode with the college professor was excellent along with Wolfgang telling Riley not to give up on Will (not that anyone doubted she would) while Kala herself came up with a secret weapon of sorts to give Will an advantage over Whispers.

As for moments that weren't too plot related but important to the overall characters, we had Lito facing a grilling from an obnoxious journalist about his sexuality. That scene really set my teeth on edge as the contempt the journalist showed towards both Lito and Hernando seemed palpable. I did however like Lito's response as well as the seguing into Capheus's own storyline.

Capheus too was interviewed by a journalist named Zakia who seemed to question his Van Damme nickname before later apologising for her hasty comments. Unlike Lito's journalist, the episode went out of it's way to portray the character in a sympathetic light and it seemed that there was also a rather nice spark between the pair as well.

- The mystery of Sarah intensified in this episode with Nomi/Amanita talking to her mother and learning about Sarah's interactions with Jonas, Angelica and Milton.

- Nice flashbacks with Wolfgang and I liked his scene with Sun as well (who didn't have much to do here). Both Wolfgang and Felix are now dealing with Sebastian Fuchs as they now have a nightclub.

- Kala's father in law is running for Prime Minister, we also saw Riley with her father again while the episode ended with us meeting Milton's boss, Richard Croome as Milton freaked out about being exposed.

Who Am I? might have had that rather anvil hitting speech about identity and loss with each of the sensates during the interview scenes but it was a nice reminder of what has been at stake for the characters as the episode managed to give them an advantage over Whispers. As an opening episode, it was a great start for bigger things to come I think.

Sense8 - A Christmas Special

Wolfgang: "Happy fucking New Year!"

It's been well over a year and a half since NetFlix's most bizarre (you think Stranger Things is weird, then you've never seen this series) show debuted with it's impressive first season and with a few more months to go for Season 2, we have this delightful two hour 'prelude' to somewhat tide us over before then.

I'll admit that I haven't watched Sense8 since catching it's finale back in June 2015, so it took me a little bit to familiarise myself with the characters again and it seems that while not a huge amount has changed, other than Will needing to be blindfolded and drugged a bit to keep Whispers from finding him and Riley (notice how massively their roles have reversed here), although by the end of this one, it seems that the slippery guy had the advantage once again.

Of course while Will and Riley were playing at hiding away (as were Nomi and Amanita), I did like that the episode deepened their connection all the more but of course we saw a lot of connections in this one. Anyone who loved the orgy scene from Demons got a sequel that involved all of the clusters this time around for good measure. Rarely do scenes like that work a second time but here it certainly did along with the madcap antics of the eight clusters banding together to celebrate their birthday in one of the most glorious scenes ever.

While this episode didn't do much to advance the ongoing threat, it achieved so much more on a personal level with each of the clusters. Seeing Lito and Hernando as a united front when their relationship became public knowledge really got to me and I loved the presence of Lito's mother and Daniella's disgust at her friends being vilified by the media while at the same time doing her best to support them.

As well as Lito coming out of hiding, Nomi and Amanita also did the same upon visiting the former's friend and then spending Christmas dinner with Bug and Amanita's mother and four fathers. Along with Lito/Hernando, this show continues to show what a loving couple Nomi/Amanita are in the face of some big odds here.

Meanwhile, both Kala and Wolfgang seem to be growing closer but aren't quite there with each other. Kala clearly wants to be with Wolfgang but is also determined to make her marriage to Rajan work (who thankfully is a sympathetic character) while Wolfgang had some joy with Felix waking from his coma but the gang related stuff he gets involved with came to a messy head during New Year's Eve. On the plus, it did lead to a brilliant parting line for this episode.

As for Sun, she's still stuck in prison but at least she's got people supporting her. The women in the prison keeping her morale up and the gang trying to get her freedom back and saving her from nearly being killed as well. There's also a beautiful moment she shared with Kala talking about her first time and it's a scene I found as powerful as the sexual freedom speech given earlier by Kala and Lito in the episode. Saying that, Season 2 really does need to get Sun out of prison as early as possible.

As for Capheus, well he's regenerated (Toby Onwumere replacing Aml Ameen) and to be honest, aside from the nice little knowing nods to the new casting, he's still the lovable, optimistic guy from before. I loved his interactions with Sun and his reactions to getting a new bus along with his scenes with his mother. Not only that but this episode gave us some great stuff for smaller characters like Bug, Felix and Daniella to boot as well as more on both Amanita and Hernando.

- We briefly saw both Jonas and Angelica again in this episode. I'm hoping we see a little more of both in Season 2.
- Standout music: Obvious uses of Hallelujah and Auld Lang Syne to one side, the use of Jetta's I'd Love To Change The World during the orgy scene worked beautifully.
- Chronology: The episode took in August up to and including Christmas and New Year's Eve pretty well.
- Season 2 will be released on Netflix from May 5th. It'll be 10 episodes this time.

That was amazing. Arguably I do think this could've been 90 minutes and still had the desired effect it set out to have but A Christmas Special was easily one of the best things to be released over the Christmas period and served as a nice reminder how off the wall and brilliant this series truly is. Watch this episode and then watch it again. And so on.

LGBT TV 2015: Highs/Lows/Missed Opportunities

Okay, this might not be an entirely definitive list. There are probably some omissions, due to me either not getting round to seeing certain programmes or simply forgetting stuff but without further ado, here's a look at some of the most prominent of LGBT programmes - either for the excellent representation, terrible representation or simply being a missed opportunity.

Starting this off on a good note ....

The Best

Sense8 (Netflix)

There were so many things this excellent summer series had going in it's favour from the makers of both The Matrix and Babylon 5. Some of the most notable was the diversity in it's casting, the fact that it was filmed in eight different countries (which really did translate onscreen) and of course, the fact that a good portion of the cast were LGBT. In the first season we saw the relationship between transgendered hacktivist Nomi (Jamie Clayton) and free spirited Amanita (Freema Agyeman) as well as semi-closeted actor Lito (Miguel Ángel Silvestre) and the rather lovely Hernando (Alfonso Herrera). Both relationships were treated with utter sensitivity throughout the captivating series.

How To Get Away With Murder (ABC/Universal)

If only every second season can be good as this show. I feared that How To Get Away With Murder might have suffered from the cursed sophomore slump but has managed to actually subvert it so far. Not only that but Season 2 is seriously becoming close to edging out Season 1 in terms of craziness too. More importantly, the show's handling of Oliver's (Conrad Ricamora) HIV and his relationship with Connor (Jack Falahee) has developed so wonderfully onscreen. Watching this show, you do have to wonder why can't all LGBT writers get it as right as Peter Nowalk is currently doing.

Empire (FOX/E4)

Has there ever has been a show that has risen so spectacularly? In less than a couple of episodes, Empire went from a surprising rated well mid season series on FOX to becoming literally the most talked about network drama in the last five years and it's easy to see why. It's a modern musical equivalent to Dallas, has been more of a singing monster hit than the ended Glee and upped the soap antics with the Lyon family and the record company. More to the point (and excluding the blip we had with the Skye Summers plot), Jamal Lyon has become one of the most fascinating gay characters on television with Jussie Smollett proving to be a commanding presence and soulful singer.

Cucumber/Banana/Tofu (Ch4/E4/4OD/Logo)

16 years ago, Russell T/ Davies gave UK viewers Queer As Folk on Channel 4 and it certainly changed the landscape of television. In 2015, he went one step further with three interconnecting shows, all airing on connecting channels and while the shows in question might have divided some viewers, they did however provoke discussion. Not only that - they also examined what it meant to be LGBT in the present day, the division between young and older members of the community, the dangers of revenge porn, unrequited love, growing apart from family and friends as well as the ending of a long term relationship. Basically, these shows fucking rocked.

London Spy (BBC2/BBCAmerica)

Recently finished up on one channel and awaiting airing on another, I did a series overview of this five part spy series from writer Tom Robb Smith and starring Ben Whishaw, but covering myself again - there were moments that frustrated me, but the moments that didn't outweighed things. The love story between Danny (Whishaw) and Alistair/Alex (Edward Holcroft) was interesting and tragic but the friendship between Danny and Scottie (Jim Broadbent) and the ongoing quest to find out who killed Alex certainly kept the show watchable at all times.

The Pretty Good/Rather Great

Looking (HBO/SkyAtlantic)

The bad thing about this show was the moment it got it's groove in it's much improved second season, it was also the same moment that HBO decided to call time on the series. While a movie scheduled for 2016 will tie up any loose ends, it's a shame that apart from that, audiences won't get to see any more of Agustin (Frankie J. Alverez) and Eddie's (Daniel Franzese) relationship, which was the best thing about the second season. Far more interesting than seeing Dom and Ritchie just hanging around or the somewhat tedium surrounding Patrick (Jonathan Groff) and Kevin (Russell Tovey). Hopefully the movie should end things on a good note though.

Orange Is The New Black (Netflix)

To be honest, the third season of Netflix's most famous of shows wasn't it's best one but it was still an extremely watchable one as Piper/Alex (Taylor Schilling/Laura Prepon) reunited, got back together and then broke up over the 13 episodes while Ruby Rose made a memorable debut as the intriguing enough Stella. There was also a delving into transphobia with Sophia (Laverne Cox) towards the end of the season and the growing friendship between Big Boo (Lea DeLaria) and Tiffany (Taryn Manning) was pretty affecting.

Glee (FOX/Sky1)

One of three of Ryan Murphy's shows to make this list and while the show's final season wasn't capable of avoiding the odd stinker (mainly the Sue focused ones), it did have Kurt/Blaine broken up and then married (when the latter wasn't briefly with Karofsky) as well as Santana/Brittany. Not to mention the final episode showed us the gang's futures and Beiste's transition was dealt with a good amount of sensitivity, even if it could've been tackled earlier in the show's run.

Boy Meets Girl (BBC2)

BBC2's sweet natured comedy focusing on transgender woman Judy (Rebecca Root) meeting and starting a relationship with younger man, Leo (Harry Hepple) was one of the surprise hits of the last few months and within six episodes we got to see the relationship develop naturally with both Root and Hepple playing off each other extremely well. I do hope a second series is imminent.

Atlantis (BBC1/BBCAmerica)

A surprising addition to this list but a worthy one. Atlantis might have been a show with some of the laziest writing known to man at times and it's cancellation might have definitely been brought on itself but one thing it managed to get right in the second half of it's second season was the blossoming relationship between Pythagoras (Robert Emms) and Icarus (Joseph Timms). It's a shame we only got about five episodes of the two of them together but at least the show ventured where it's predecessor Merlin could never go though.

The Bad

Quantico (ABC)

You had one character (Simon as played by Tate Ellington) pretending to be gay for reasons too convoluted to entertain while the other character, Elias (Rick Cosnett) seemed to suffer various degrees of character assassination and ineptitude within the first half of this show's debut year. Bad form, show.

Scream Queens (FOX/E4)

It's a shame that for his first post Glee project and sticking with FOX, that Ryan Murphy had to resort to one of the most regressive tropes going. While the comedy/horror series could be entertaining at times, it was riddled with problems (not actually being scary, nastiness of main characters, humour trying too hair, pacing etc) and one of them being the irritating plot of Nick Jonas's Boone pretending to be gay. It's 2015 for flip sake. How can any writer think that sort of storytelling is even interesting to watch in the slightest? On the other hand, it's depiction with Chanel 3/Sadie Swenson (Billie Lourd) was marginally better.

American Horror Story: Hotel (FX/FOXUK)

Okay, not gonna lie - I do prefer Hotel that tiny bit more to Freak Show and while there's been a healthy dose of LGBT characters, the actual quality in them hasn't been something to write a glowing letter home about either. Let's be honest, they're either murderous (Lady Gaga's the Countess), revenge obsessed (Angela Bassett's Ramona Royale), not very bright (Cheyenne Jackson's Will Drake) or their relationships have been too brief to really care about (Denis O'Hare's Liz Taylor with Finn Wittrock's Tristan Duffy). Basically we're in desperate need for another Lana Winters, aren't we?

The Wasted Potential

Constantine (NBC/Amazon Prime)

I caught this series months after it's cancellation and mostly in preparation for Matt Ryan reprising his role in Arrow's fourth season (yay Nyssa/Curtis/alive Sara). Constantine as a series itself was actually pretty enjoyable for the most part but the show's decision to literally ignore the character's bisexuality (something which the latest comics have been more proud of depicting) infuriated me to no end and highlighted a horrible pattern with David S. Goyer as well (DaVinci's Demons, anyone?). Not to mention some of Daniel Cerone's comments on the issue were similarly annoying as well as patronising. It's kind of a shame the show only lasted a season but the writers decision not to have John as an openly bisexual character was met with deserved criticism. I can only hope the more the character pops up in the Arrow universe, the more the writers for those shows will go where Goyer/Cerone failed to go with the character.

Now that's my look at some of the highs and lows of LGBT TV in 2015. What are yours?

Sense8 - Just Turn The Wheel And The Future Changes/I Can't Leave Her

And here's the recap for the last two episodes of this incredible series. It's been something of a bumpy ride.

Nomi Marks: The last two episodes for Nomi were a group collaboration with Will and the rest of the Sensates into rescuing Riley and it was certainly fun to see Nomi put her hacking skills to the test when she aided Will into getting into Whispers facility in order to get Riley out of there. We also got to see her hacking buddy Bug again as well as another shining moment of how brilliant Amanita was throughout the final two episodes.

Lito Rodriguez: He wasn't in the penultimate episode and Hernando wasn't in the final two episodes and we still don't know whether or not Joaquin will out him but his skills did come in handy when it came to charming a female doctor (his bit in Operation: Rescue Riley) and the moment where he reminded Will that they took part in an orgy half a season ago was certainly priceless.

Will Gorski: The finale was probably the biggest for Will and Riley and their whole relationship in general. He got everyone to get him to Iceland to rescue Riley and also had to experience her traumatic past while they were escaping (along with various interactions with Jonas, Angel and Whispers). He was also left in a bit of a sticky predicament as the episode ended as well.

Riley Blue: Wow, that finale was traumatic as hell for the poor girl. The flashbacks to her husband and baby's death, the current torture she was suffering at Whispers and even being forced to relive her past experiences as she was escaping with Will. Some truly excellent acting from Tuppence Middleton in the last two episodes. I did like that her and Will got a moment together in the end.

Kala Dandekar: We got to see various skills from Kala in the finale (getting Wolfgang out of a stick situation, helping Will to wake up Riley) but even then, there were some bad times for Kala. Going by what she saw with Wolfgang, it might be a while before things go further with them. On the plus side, it's nice that we've seen her interact with more members of the same cluster though.

Wolfgang Bogdanov: Things got bloody and they got bloody rather fast. While Wolfgang was able to get Felix to safety, he then managed to lay waste to his uncle's gang before taking out his uncle in one violent swoop. Actually the flashbacks to when Wolfgang killed another important family member was a good way of highlighting how dangerous he was (along with his method for helping Will/Riley escape). It also put something of a damper on things with him and Kala for the time being.

Sun Bak: And the bad stuff kept on coming for more of the cluster members. While Sun helped Will beat the crap out of several security guards during Rescue Riley, she also had the misfortune of finding out that her father was killed and that her brother intended for her to remain in prison. If the show comes back for a second season, then I'm hoping Sun is freed within the first half of it.

Capheus: Van Damn came through various times in the last two episodes. His skills with stealing cars helped Will and Riley with their escape while in his own life he also managed (with a little help from Sun) protect the mob boss's daughter and save the mob boss himself. As a final note, I also love that one of the last images of the finale was a moment where all eight Sensates were on a boat together and given that the whole Jonas/Whisper/Angel stuff is far from resolved, this show has to come back for a second season. Go on, Netflix, you know you want to.

Sense8 - Death Doesn't Let You Say Goodbye/What Is Human?

Getting closer to the end of the season of this wonderful show and these two episodes were some of the best television I've witnessed.

Nomi Marks: What can I say? Her scenes in these two episodes were just sublime. The moment she connected with Lito over their loneliness and being outcasts was just absorbing to watch. A beautifully acted moment between Jamie Clayton and Miguel Angel Silvestre and the reunion with Amanita resulted in some well timed fireworks as well. Not to mention the fact that Nomi along with her other cluster members experienced a concert (courtesy of Riley's father) and relived her own birth as well. Stunning stuff.

Lito Rodriguez: Boy, does Lito really know how not to deal with a break up or not? The poor brooded, ate a lot of ice cream, lost a flip flop and it was the tag team effort of both Nomi and Wolfgang that helped him out of his funk. The fight with Joaquin to get Daniela away from the latter was entertaining but indicative of natural character progression while the reunion with Hernando was very much welcomed. Nice one, Lito.

Will Gorski: The connection between Will and Riley has been building nice over the last few episodes quite nicely but through these two, the general arc seems to be picking up speed as well. Will is getting more and more information about Whispers courtesy of Jonas (Riley through another source) and in the 10th episode, I actually found himself enjoying Will's scenes with his father - and that wasn't something I would've said earlier in the season. I also liked him interacting with Wolfgang and Capheus too.

Riley Blue: Out of all the characters, these last two episodes were fairly major for Riley. The connection to Will, her reunion with her father, seeing his concert, meeting another Cluster who told her not to trust Jonas/get out of Iceland and then there was her backstory. I honestly didn't see it coming and it was certainly well handled and the scenes where she lost her husband/child were harrowing.

Kala Dandekar: Again, the connection with Wolfgang has been handled nicely but I loved the fact that she finally got to interact with another member of her cluster. The scenes where her and Capheus were discussing dancing, violence and a Van Damn movie were just brilliant and I also like that she's getting closer to admitting that she doesn't want to get married as well. Then again, even her father has picked up on her reluctance for marriage now.

Wolfgang Bogdanov: Like Lito, there was some character progression here. If Wolfgang taught Lito how to fight, then Lito showed Wolfgang how to lie effectively during a gang dispute. Then we got that particular bad ass moment where Wolfgang showed off his skills with a rocket launcher. Also on an interesting note, there was a tiny bit of antagonism between Wolfgang and Will when they met up briefly as the latter talked about Independence Day.

Sun Bak: Perhaps a little underutilised in these last two episodes compared to previous ones. It did seem like her father was beginning to realise that having Sun take the rap for her brother's crimes wasn't such a good idea but aside from a few fleeting interactions (with Will and Capheus on the boat) and watching her birth/enjoying the orchestra, not a lot of Sun here. Hopefully that changes for the last two episodes though.

Capheus: Some great moments for Capheus in these last two episodes. His scenes with Riley and Kala for example were sublime, the backstory about his younger sister was devastating and the little moment where he talked about liking fireworks made me smile as well. Also, I might be reading into stuff but could the writers be setting up a future Wolfgang/Kala/Capheus triangle as well? Oh and all of the sensates share the same birthday too - August 8th.

Sense8 - W. W. N. Double D?/We Will All Be Judged by the Courage of Our Hearts

Two thirds into the season and the arc has taken some interesting turns as several characters get more information on their connection when not placed in morally compromising positions.

Nomi Marks: Now these two episodes really seemed to play on Nomi's hacking abilities to the max. Not only did she meet up with a past hacker friend called Bug but both her and Amanita stalked Dr Metzger's place, learned more about the creepy organisation after the Sensates, which then led to them coming directly after Nomi by paying Amanita's mother a house call. I did like that with the connection to Will, Sun and Capheus that Nomi was able to escape from her would be captors for the time being but at the same time, I'm now worried for Amanita and her mother though. Ooh and Nomi interacted with Jonas again.

Lito Rodriguez: This was not a good set of episodes for Lito. First of all, Daniela's abusive ex-boyfriend was able to get her back and use some suggestive pictures of Lito and Hernando to break up the fun trinity while at the same time, Lito and Hernando then broke up after the former made no effort to get Daniela out of harm's way. Much as I feel bad for Lito, I'm actually on Hernando's side in this one. Hopefully in the remaining episodes, Lito will be able to get Daniela away from her abusive boyfriend and reunite with Hernando as well as come out of the closet as well.

Will Gorski: The gang subplot that Will has with his partner wasn't particularly riveting to watch but the slow burning connection that he's forming with Riley (not unlike the same dynamic with Wolfgang and Kala) is actually quite lovely. You could argue about it feeling contrived but it really doesn't though. It's been handled so believably well that when the two of them are talking about their homes, it's genuinely lovely to watch. Other than that though, Will ended up getting suspended (not good) but at least the combination of him, Sun and Capheus managed to save Nomi though.

Riley Blue: The last few episodes have been great for Riley. I've enjoyed her interacting with other Sensates, particularly in one scene where her and Capheus shared a flight together and the romance with Will has been beautifully handled as well. More to the point, taking the character out of London and back to Iceland and having her reconnect with her father has been great for the character.

Kala Dandekar: Like Riley, the last few episodes have also been great for Kala. The eighth episode particular ended in a shocking scene where she witnessed her future father in law being stabbed in public (which even I didn't see coming) - the same future father in law who also seemed savvy enough about her true feelings for his son. Then there was her getting a better insight into Wolfgang's terrible childhood and friendship with Felix as well. The only thing I do want though is to see Kala interact with some of the other Sensates aside from Wolfgang as well. She seems to be the only one who hasn't yet.

Wolfgang Bogdanov: These last two episodes not only gave me a better insight into Wolfgang and Felix's friendship but also a rather horrible look into his childhood as well. Seriously, in a show that has had some horrible parents (and great ones like Amanita/Capheus's mothers, Riley's father, all of Kala's family), Wolfgang's father is arguably worse that Nomi's mother but at least we saw just how much of a great friend and ally Felix has been to him over the years. It does look like for now that Felix is touch and go, so he might survive the season while Wolfgang and Kala's connection also seems to be growing as well.

Sun Bak: We've gone all Orange Is The New Black/eventual Prison Break perhaps with Sun's storyline now. She's stuck in prison but aside from one mean spirited lag, the majority of the prisoners are either helping her to learn to sew, are bringing her food and generally being nice to her. Also after that little prison yard scrap, only a stupid person (that lag in particular) would be deluded enough to physically take Sun on in a fight. I also enjoyed seeing her and Nomi interacted as she showed the latter how to fend herself from some federal agents belonging to Whispers.

Capheus: Poor guy. The more involved he got with Silas and interacted with his daughter in order to help his mother, the more it forced him to realise that getting in bed with a crime lord wasn't a smart idea. Unfortunately (and expectedly), he's just gotten himself in too deep to really get out and now we've got a plot with a rival gang who want Silas's daughter as well. On the plus side at least Capheus had some great interactions with Will, Riley and Nomi in the last two episodes.
