Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reboot - Hulu Pilot Order Nearing With Sarah Michelle Gellar Returning

Well, I certainly didn't expect this on my bingo card for 2025 and yet, I probably should've done.

Today, it was announced that a reboot of classic 1990s show, Buffy The Vampire Slayer would be happening with Hulu and better yet, series star Sarah Michelle Gellar (currently playing Tanya Martin on Paramount+ series Dexter: Origin Sin) would be returning.

Executive produced by Gellar along with writers Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (Poker Face). Both Nora and Lilla write the pilot episode, which will be directed by Chloe Zhao (Nomadland, Eternals). Original series’ executive producers Gail Berman of the Jackal Group and Fran Kuzui & Kaz Kuzui via Suite B will also be involved with the upcoming potential series.

Right now, its a pilot that has yet to be officially picked up as a series but a writers room will be assembled with the possibility of other cast members possibly involved at a later date. The show will represent a new chapter for the popular supernatural show.

Now for the elephant in the room - will the show involve series creator Joss Whedon? Nope, it will not. The announcement made that abundantly clear but after years of ruling out reprising the role, it seems that Sarah Michelle Gellar has finally warmed to the idea.

Years ago, I would've hated this idea but now and with the talent involved, I'm cautiously optimistic about this one.

I'll post more information on this potential revival as it comes out.
