My Review of A Nice Indian Boy (2025)

Naveen (to Jay): "A big wedding party with all of the people we love. I want the same thing with you."

Ah, a nice lovely story between an Indian man from a very involved family and a white man who was raised by Indian parents that are no longer around. That's the premise of this movie.

It's the love story between doctor Naveen Gavaskar (Karan Soni) and photographer, Jay Kurundkar (Jonathan Groff). First they met at temple, then their respective jobs brought then together. Then a date to a movie familiar with both brought them closer together. What could potentially tear them apart?

That would be introducing Jay to Naveen's family and some of the latter's insecurities also coming to the surface. Naveen's parents, Megha (Zarna Garg) and Archit (Harish Patel) tried to make Jay feel welcome but it was Naveen's sister, Arundhathi (Sunita Mani) who brought things out for everyone.

Nursing through a potential divorce, Arundhathi's issues had Naveen and Jay temporarily break up for a bit in the movie before Naveen made the big romantic gesture in order to get Jay back. Then there was the dissecting of Megha and Archit's arranged marriage that had some revealing moments for both characters.

Of course, it was revealed that Naveen and Arundhathi's parents do genuinely love each other and then there was the wedding itself. It made up the last chapter of the movie and managed to go ahead without a hitch. Jay might have lost one family but he certainly gained another by marrying into Naveen's.

There's very good chemistry with Karan Soni and Jonathan Groff throughout and due to the length, the movie did kind of cut through most of the conflict without feeling short-changed.

- The movie is broken into several chapters with the wedding being the last one.
- The movie that Naveen and Jay bonded over was called Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
- Karan Soni's partner, Roshan Sethi directed this movie.
- Chronology: Arundhathi's wedding was six years before the events of the movie.

A Nice Indian Boy is a lovely, feel good movie. A nice central romance between Naveen and Jay with great performances from Karan Soni and Jonathan Groff. There's great supporting performances, genuinely funny and heartfelt scenes and lovely music. Worth a watch.

Rating: 8 out of 10
