Batman: Caped Crusader - Season 2: Episodes 6-10 Reviews (2026, Amazon Prime)

The second half of the season offered a redemption for one villain, introduced others, showed the sidekick seeds and gave us a chilling Joker.

Episode 6: Sudden Fear

The title alone made it clear that we were getting an episode focused on the Scarecrow (Josh Brener) and it's Jonathan Crane Jr. who donned the Plague Doctor look of the popular villain. It's a decent enough take on the character with him terrorising college students once again. It's also an episode that revealed that Renee Montoya was secretly hiding Harley Quinn and the latter not only helped Batman to take down Scarecrow but she even turned herself in. 7/10

Episode 7: Her Dark Reflection

I genuinely thought this was going to be a Poison Ivy episode but the villain was actually Thorn aka Rose Forrest (Fryda Wolff). Rose was a timid woman working in a family florist and then the Riddler callously murdered her father. I really have disliked this version of the Riddler, so I was fine with seeing him succumb to Thorn's charms before she took him out. A very effective episode with Thorn being a very effective villain. 7/10

Episode 8: Zero Hour

Anyone remember a time when Mr Freeze was actually called Mr Zero (Kevin Michael Richardson)? I mean, it was a very long time ago but this show decided to bring the idea back. Despite some good acting, this was a rather generic take on the more complex character we've had for decades. On the plus side, the return of Carrie Kelley was a highlight. From clashing with and bonding with Batman over The Grey Ghost (her costume choice btw) to the snarky rivalry with her and Officer Bullock (very Annie coded) and the fact that she found a loving adopted family. Carrie was better handled than the villain of the piece. 7/10

Episode 9: Dead Before Dawn

He's been skulking around in the background for most of his appearances this season but now was his time to shine. The Joker made his debut in Gotham by quickly murdering Hattie Tetch on her own talk show with his special gas. On top of that, he made it his mission to kill the Mayor and neither Batman nor Flass could do much to protect him. Matthew Needham played the role pretty sombre and there was a nice twist that had Alfred also a victim of the Joker's. 7/10

Episode 10: The Laughing Death

And now the finale. Or is this the series finale? Only time will tell. You've got the Joker poisoning all of Gotham and Batman and Alfred coming up with the cure to save the city. There's a nice enough confrontation between Batman and Joker with the latter trying to draw a brotherly comparison between the two. The Joker was given something of an ambiguous exit, which means he'll definitely resurface if this show gets a third season. 7/10

That's my overall review of the second season. It's mostly a strong second outing though some villains are handled better than others.

Batman: Caped Crusader - Season 2: Episodes 1-5 Reviews (2026, Amazon Prime)

Yup, new format for the second season of Batman: Caped Crusader. This post will cover the first five episodes. Written by Tyrone Finch & Bryce Abood, Geoffrey Thorne, Margaret Dunlap and J.M. DeMatteis. Directed by Christina Sotta, Matt Peters and Christopher Berkerley.

Episode 1: Brute Force

The opening episode debuted the Riddler (Ronan Raftery) and it's a much more trigger happy version of the character. In fact, he's kind of being set up as the main antagonist of the season. There's a large emphasis on Rupert Thorne's trial with this show's version of Calendar Man aka Julian Gregory (J.P. Karliak) also factoring into proceedings. Anyways, Rupert managed to secure a victory until a fatal encounter with the Joker (Matthew Needham). Oh and we've got a female version of Mad Hatter called Hattie Tetch (Laraine Newman) that's an anti-Batman news reader and hostess of her own show. 7/10

Episode 2: Roxy's Red Glare

Roxy Rocket (Wunmi Mosaku) got her own reinvention for this episode and it's actually more of a sympathetic turn as well. While it initially looked like she was being set up as a villain,  it was actually revealed that she was the one trying to stop her corrupt bosses from abusing her inventions.  It's a good take on the character. Oh and if taking out Rupert Thorne wasn't enough, the Joker made quick work of Hugo Strange (James Urbaniak) and we barely got to know the latter. 6/10

Episode 3: Deep Cover

This episode had Joker spying in the background but largely, it was focused on Riddler taking over Rupert Thorne's organisation. In this episode, he killed more henchmen to instill loyalty but his attempts to kill Desmond proved to be a bit trickier. I got to be honest, I don't really like this version of the character and the reason for his name here isn't great either. I did like Bruce going undercover as Matches Malone. That bit worked well enough. 6/10

Episode 4: The Devil's Due

I like a good supernatural themed story and this one had a welcomed return for Papa Midnite but the Mad Monk (Blythe Melin) wanting to sacrifice both Jim Gordon and Hattie Tetch just didn't quite work for me. Mad Monk was all ranting and little menace or fun in their interactions with Batman. Hattie's vendetta towards Batman definitely feels like something that needs to be fleshed out but she's a very different type of antagonist for him. It's also another episode with a silent Joker cameo. 5/10

Episode 5: The Spectral Hand

Oh, it's a Christmas episode and the return of Jim Corrigan. Having nearly killed Barbara Gordon, he signed up to an experimental procedure to get a reduced sentence. The procedure seemingly killed him but instead it turned him into the Spectre. I gotta be honest, he felt more like Solomon Grundy at times. Jim spent most of the episode going after past failed arrests and resolving them in a very final way. It appeared he had the same idea for Barbara until it was revealed that he wanted her forgiveness. This was by far the best episode in this season with the gorgeous Christmas setting and Corrigan's story ending on a poignant note. 8/10

DCU Blog - July 2026 Edition: The Batman Part II Delayed, SDCC Highlights And More

It's been a very busy July with a lot of DC related news to get through. Most of it good but some less good too.

The Batman Part II has been delayed to February 18th 2028. There's also rumours that Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan and Brian Tyree Henry are playing Poison Ivy, Victor Zsasz and Harvey Dent respectively.

Supergirl has gone to digital this week. It grossed $125 million at the box office.

Once again, James Gunn has debunked DCU Batman. This is getting ridiculous.

Tom King has confirmed that he's keeping Jack Kirby in every part of the upcoming Mister Miracle animated show.

Clayface (October 23rd) got the full SDCC treatment with a new trailer and a panel, which included Tom Rhys Harries.

Xolo Maridueña will reprise his role as Blue Beetle in Man Of Tomorrow (July 9th 2027). The character of Brother Power may also appear.

Alan Ritchson has confirmed he's had conversations about a role in the DCU.

All ten episodes of Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 have been released today on Amazon Prime. Matthew Needham voices the Joker.

Also at SDCC were the cast for Lanterns (August 16th on HBO). A new trailer was also unveiled. 

Adria Arjona hasn't confirmed if she's been cast as either Wonder Woman or Maxima for Man Of Tomorrow. She's due to start filming soon.

The first part of Batman: Knightfall will be released from August 25th on digital and September 8th on physical copies.

While the character might be returning in live action, the Blue Beetle animation series has been cancelled.

Jimmy Tatro will voice and provide some motion capture for Gorilla Grodd for the upcoming Jimmy Olsen spin off show for HBO Max. Rumoured to be titled American Villain.

HBO have passed on the V For Vendetta script from Pete Jackson. It may be redeveloped with another writer at a later stage.

Dean Lorry has confirmed that Creature Commandos will have ten episodes for its second season. GI Robot will also get a massive story.

Barry Keoghan will reprise his role as the Joker in The Batman Part II.

DCU Blog - June 2026 Edition: Supergirl Crashes, New Animated Shows And More

And we're halfway through 2026. This month sadly has been something of a mixed bag in terms of DC News but we move.

Let's get the bad news out of the way first - Supergirl (2026) has only grossed $63 million at the box office, making it one of the bigger losses for the WB this year.

It seems that the next DC film to possibly go into production could be the Deathstroke And Bane movie.

Spoiler hounds are arguing among themselves in regards to whether or not the DCU Batman has been cast.

Ana Nogueira has recently talked of developments for both her Wonder Woman and Teen Titans scripts.

Man Of Tomorrow (July 9th 2027) is currently half way through filming with some recent set pics of David Corenswet and Nicholas Holt having leaked.

Batman: Caped Crusader will be released on Amazon Prime from July 29th. Expect villains such as Riddler, Man-Bat and a female version of Mad Hatter.

A trailer for Batman: Knightfall Part 1 has been released. The movie will be released later in the year.

A synopsis for the animated Dynamic Duo (June 28th 2028) revealed that Dick and Jason will split when the former joins Batman and the latter joins the Red Hood Gang.

After an eternity, The Batman Part II (October 1st 2027) has started filming. 

Both James Gunn and John Cena have hinted about when Peacemaker will resurface in the DCU. Something tells me it's a lot sooner than expected.

Clayface (October 23rd 2026) is approximately one hour and fifty minutes according to recent test screenings. It doesn't feature Batman as of now.

David Jenkins has recently turned in the script for Booster Gold. It has yet to be greenlit.

Animated shows for Absolute Batman, Joker: Laugh Riot and Krypto have been announced.

My Adventures With Superman doesn't have a fourth season announcement as of yet. Season 3 is currently airing weekly.

Expect announcements for both Creature Commandos Season 2 and Mister Miracle very soon.

Filming for the Jimmy Olsen/Gorilla Grodd HBO Max series will start after filming of Man Of Tomorrow has completed. They're looking for actors from a comedy background for Grodd and one of the main roles will be for a lawyer.

DCU Blog - May 2026 Edition: The Batman Pt II Casting, Super Summer Mark 2

Yup, this month certainly delivered on the front of casting news, among other things. Without further ado, let's get into it.

In addition to Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan, The Batman Part II (October 1st 2027) has added Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch to the cast. Dance will play Christopher Dent.

James Gunn confirmed on Threads that between General Zod, Doomsday, Doctor Fate, Black Adam, Ultraman and Darkseid that two of them will be showing up in the DCU soon.

Tom King has been hyping the casting for his upcoming Mister Miracle animated show. Casting should be revealed soon enough.

As of now, there are no directors being talked to about Teen Titans.

Matthew Lillard has joined the cast of Man Of Tomorrow (July 9th 2027) in an undisclosed role. Sinqua Walls has also been cast.

Volker Bertelmann will score Clayface (October 23rd 2026).

Greg Mottolo is seemingly in the mix to direct the Deathstroke And Bane movie, which has yet to be officially greenlit.

The arrival of Supergirl (June 26th) is close and we've been getting plenty of TV spots and interviews from Milly Alcock herself. She'll reprise the role in Man Of Tomorrow.

Absolute Wonder Woman has concluded it's current arc and is now moving into a new one with Barbara Minerva becoming the latest Cheetah.

Nicole Maines will be writing this year's DC Pride titled Justice League: Dream Girls - A DC Pride Event. The four part series will be released throughout the month of June.

Darren Criss will voice the role of Superboy for the third season of My Adventures With Superman, which premieres on Adult Swim from June 13th. Jessica Cruz will also feature.

Lanterns has officially been confirmed for August 16th on HBO with the latest trailer also confirming Laura Linney's casting. Chris Cantwell has been hired for the second season.

DC Animation/Warner Brothers will premiere Knightfall at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival among upcoming DC animated shows.

The second season of Creature Commandos will premiere on HBO Max after Man Of Tomorrow. The first episode is titled Starry Night.

DCU Blog - April 2026 Edition: Clayface Trailer, Lanterns Airdate And Major Casting News

Well, April turned out to be one hell of a month for DC fans. There really was so much going on.

Adria Arjona has joined the cast of Man Of Tomorrow (July 9th 2027) but is she playing Maxima or Wonder Woman? Time will tell on that one. Filming has now begun on the Superman (2025) sequel. Andre Royo has also been cast in an undisclosed role.

Charles Dance has been cast as Christopher Dent for The Batman - Part II (October 1st 2027). Filming starts from June in London.

James Gunn has recently confirmed not to expect The Authority any time soon, due to the script not working out.

Season 3 of My Adventures With Superman will premiere at midnight from June 13th on Adult Swim's Toonami with a next day release on HBO Max.

Supergirl (June 26th 2026) got her flowers at both CinemaCon and CCXP Mexico this month. Both Milly Alcock and Craig Gillespie were promoting the movie at both events.

We will be seeing more of Sean Gunn's Maxwell Lord in future DCU projects. I imagine that'll be sooner than later.

James Gunn has also stated after filming for Man Of Tomorrow is complete, he'll discuss what is and isn't canon from The Suicide Squad and Blue Beetle in relation to the DCU. 

The first trailer for Clayface (October 23rd 2026) has been watched by over 11 millions views on YouTube so far. The movie will be set before the events of Superman (2025).

Funko Pops will be released for John Constantine, Midnighter, Apollo and Dreamer to commence with Pride Month.

Correction from last month but Dark Knights Of Steel will be released from July.

Lanterns will seemingly air on HBO from August 16th. The trailer is currently down.

Both Booster Gold and Paradise Lost are still in development with the latter being in extreme development.

Sidney Chandler is rumoured to be cast as Nosferata for the second season of Creature Commandos.

The fourth episode of the Krypto show is now available on YouTube.

DCU Blog - March 2026 Edition: Supergirl Promo, Lanterns Trailer And More

We're a quarter into 2026 and the DC news has been a little sparse but we did get some good bits this month.

Later today will see the release of a new trailer for Supergirl (June 26th). David Corenswet's Superman is confirmed to feature in it. Claudia Sarne is now the composer.

Filming for Man Of Tomorrow (July 9th 2027) will begin in three weeks in Atlanta, Georgia. 

Aaron Pierre will reprise his role as John Stewart in Man Of Tomorrow. An actress has also been rumoured to play Maxima in the movie. Eva de Dominic is the rumoured actress.

Paramount's deal to acquire Warner Brothers will be decided next month. It might not even happen.

Robert Pattinson has talked about The Batman - Part II (October 1st 2027) taking some big swings. Filming will start during the end of May in the UK.

Ruby Sear has been cast in an undisclosed role for Clayface (October 23rd). A trailer is likely to appear at CinemaCon next month. The WB panel will be on April 14th from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller have written a movie for The Flash for the DCU but it hasn't been picked up.

Peacemaker won Best Superhero TV Series at the Saturn Awards.

The first trailer for HBO's Lanterns was released. The show will air from August on the cable channel.

Fans of the Absolute Batman series will be seeing Two Face in an upcoming issue while Absolute Wonder Woman will debut a new Cheetah in the next arc.

David Jenkins has confirmed once again that he's still the show runner for the upcoming Booster Gold show.

Superman worldwide collection now stands at $624.3 million.

A casting announcement for the Mister Miracle animated show from Tom King is on the way. It'll air on HBO Max.

The Jimmy Olsen show will be a crime mystery comedy according to co-showrunner Dan Perrault.

Freddie Stroma has confirmed that he doesn't know when he'll return as Vigilante in the DCU.

The 2026 DC Pride will be released in June and will factor in a Justice League: Dream Girls event. June will also see the release of the Dark Knights Of Steel sequel series.

My Review of Superman/Batman: Apocalypse (2010)

Kara: "Little nervous, I guess. It's just, you have this life. You can be Clark, or Kal-El, or Superman. Even a son. Who am I going to be?"

Clark: "I can't answer that, Kara. Only you can. Whatever you decide, I'll be there for you. I promise."

Yesterday I reviewed Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, so of course the follow up was going to be next. Though I should say this movie was more focused on Supergirl (Summer Glau) and that's not a bad thing.

Supergirl's ship crash landed in Gotham City River and she caused a commotion in the city until Batman (Kevin Conroy) managed to detain her and Superman (Tim Daly) made his presence known to her. Not surprising was Superman being nicer to his cousin than Batman himself.

In the first half of the movie, Kara struggled with controlling her powers, was at odds with both Batman and Krypto, embraced certain aspects of posing as a human girl and even was overwhelmed with how Superman was seen by the public. Then the Amazons led by Wonder Woman (Susan Eisenberg) felt she needed better training.

Sending Kara to Themyscira was the wisest move. She was starting to get her powers under control and even befriended Lyla/Harbinger (Rachel Quaintance). The latter had visions of Kara being in danger and sure enough, Darkseid (Andre Braugher) being interested in a new captain for his Furies made that clear.

The second half of this movie definitely was the highlight. We had Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman join up with Big Barda (Julianne Grossman) to rescue Kara from Apokolips. There's a great battle with Wonder Woman and Big Barda having to take on the likes of Granny Goodness (Ed Asner), Gilotina/Mad Harriet (Salli Saffioti), Stompa (Andrea Romano) and Lashina (Tara Strong). It's a rather brutal sequence.

Also brutal was Batman finding a way into manipulating Darkseid to relinquish his hols on Kara while the latter temporarily went against her cousin. Add a follow up battle with super cousins and Kara realised exactly what her destiny was supposed to be.

- Lex has officially been impeached and Gotham had security blimps flying over the city.

- Artemis went from being annoyed with Superman to having some respect for him during the fight with the Doomsday clones.

- We heard Vicki Vale, saw the Mister Miracle costume and Treasure was quickly defeated by the Furies.

- Chronology: Gotham City, Metropolis, Krypton, Apokolips, Themyscira and Smallville.

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse was even better than the previous movie. The focus on Supergirl was a good move for this sequel and Darkseid/Furies were also used really well. I really enjoyed this sequel.

My Review of Superman/Batman: Public Enemies (2009)

Superman: "Why is it that good villains never die?"

Batman: "Clark, what the hell are good villains?"

A while ago, I watched the Superman/Batman animated movies based on the comic of the same name. I went back to see them again just to review them for this blog. These are good movies.

Focusing a lot on Lex Luthor (Clancy Brown), this film saw the guy not only becoming president but he also seemed to have several superheroes under his thumb. Except for Superman (Tim Daly) and Batman (Kevin Conroy) but Lex had a plan for that.

With a meteor set to hit the Earth, Lex didn't want Superman saving the day and he also didn't take kindly to Amanda Waller (CCG Pounder) giving advice on using the superheroes he did have under his control. In fact, Lex was behaving erratically until it was revealed that he was injecting himself with Kryptonite.

Anyways Superman was made to look like he was responsible for the death of Metallo (John C. McGinley) but it was really Major Force (Ricardo Chavira) who did the deed. That reveal did manage to get the likes of Power Girl (Allison Mack), Captain Atom (Xander Berkeley), Starfire (Jennifer Hale) and Black Lightning (LeVar Burton) back on the good guys side.

Actually there's a lot of heroes and villains flying about the place as Lex put a billion dollar bounty on Superman. We even got both Hawkman (Michael Gough) and Shazam (Corey Burton) in fights with Superman and Batman before the tables were turned on Lex. Toyman (Calvin Tran) even tried to be a force for good before Led almost ruined everything.

There's a pretty big fight between Superman and Lex Luthor with the former having lost ant patience towards the latter while Batman nearly sacrificed himself to stop the meteor. As for Lex, well it's safe to say that his presidency came to an abrupt ending by the end of this movie.

- Villains that popped up included Killer Frost, Silver Banshee, Gorilla Grodd, Solomon Grundy, Mongul, Deadshot, Nightshade, Lady Shiva, Giganta and Captain Cold. There's a lot more in the mix.

- Both Lois Lane and Katana had brief appearances as well and Superman referenced already having a funeral.

- There's a follow up movie titled Superman/Batman: Apocalypse that'll be reviewed tomorrow.

- Chronology: Present day during a severe economic depression. Citizens were looting at one point in the movie.

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies turned out to be a strong adaptation of the source with a few changes that worked in its favour. A strong team up with the title characters and a pretty despicable Lex Luthor to boot.

Rating: 8 out of 10 

DCU Blog - February 2026 Edition: WB/Paramount, Puppy Bowl And Little Else

Disappointingly enough, this wasn't the most eventful month for DC, except for maybe the future implication of a newly announced merger. Anyways, let's get on with it, shall we?

Warners Brothers have been bought by Paramount for $111 billion after Netflix decided to step aside and not match their offer.

Clayface will now be released on October 23rd. David Dencik has also been cast in an undisclosed role.

Man Of Tomorrow (July 9th 2027) is in pre-production. Filming will begin in April, so expect more cast announcements soon.

The recent Puppy Bowl put the focus on Krypto, including a clip from Supergirl (June 26th) showing a younger version of the character.

Junkie XL will now compose the music for Supergirl. He's previously composed Zack Snyder's Justice League.

The Batman - Part II (October 1st 2027) will start filming in late May. We'll be getting more casting soon.

The logo for upcoming HBO series, Lanterns was revealed this month. The show will premiere after the third season of House Of The Dragon has finished airing.

James Gunn has stated that The Brave And The Bold will come out before Matt Reeves does a third movie for The Batman universe.

DC Next Level will see releases for the likes of Zatanna, Batwoman, Lobo and Firestorm to name a few over the next few months.

The Absolute DC Universe comic books have continued to sell well, have warranted several reprints and will continue well into 2026.

Zack Snyder has recently expressed interest in continuing his Justice League through comics or animation. That's not saying it'll happen btw.

DCU Blog - January 2026 Edition: TBII/MOT Update, Lobo Spotlight And More Blue Beetle

As we reach the last day of January, the DCU certainly provided some tantalising information about upcoming projects. Let's dive right in.

Sebastian Stan has been cast for The Batman - Part II (October 1st 2027). It's rumoured that he'll be playing Harvey Dent. Filming begins in April.

Cristin Milioti has confirmed that Sofia Falcone won't be returning for The Batman - Part II. 

Superman (2025) and Peacemaker have been nominated for Saturn Awards. The former bagged eight nominations while the latter got three nods.

Superman and Spider-Man will share an upcoming crossover in their respective comics.

Christina Hodson has been confirmed as the writer for The Brave And The Bold. This reunites her with Andy Muschietti as the two previously worked on The Flash for the DCEU.

Ana Nogueira could also be reuniting with Craig Gillespie for Wonder Woman, depending on the success of Supergirl.

Man Of Tomorrow (July 9th 2027) will introduce the character, Maxima. Expect casting news soon.

A recent spotlight for Supergirl (June 26th 2026) focused on Jason Momoa's Lobo.

Diarmaid Murtagh will be playing a space pirate in Supergirl. Krem will lead a bad of space pirate/human traffickers in the movie.

Lanterns star Kyle Chandler recently talked about his experience working on the show on Today. The show will premiere on HBO late summer.

Angel Manuel Soto has confirmed that we will see Blue Beetle and his family soon in the DCU. We still need progress on that animated show.

Filming for the Jimmy Olsen spin-off will take place around the same that Man Of Tomorrow will start filming.

The Mister Miracle animated series will take place in the DCU and will see the debut of Darkseid.

Hamish Linklater has confirmed that Season 2 of Batman: Caped Crusader will be released on Amazon Prime this year.

A good start for information in the first month of 2026. I'm expecting bigger casting news over the next few months.

DCU Blog - December 2025 Edition: TBII/MOT Major Casting, Supergirl Promo Begins

And to end this year for DC fans, we've got a slew of exciting information. Assuming nothing else gets announced before tomorrow night.

Scarlett Johansson has been cast in an undisclosed role for The Batman - Part II (October 1st 2027). She'll film her role after working on Mike Flanagan's upcoming The Exorcist movie. Filming begins in May.

Clayface (September 11th 2026) will feature Batman in some capacity.

The Brave And The Bold is still currently being written and Andy Muschietti is still attached as director and we still don't have an actor for DCU Batman.

Recent rumours have indicated that Ana Nogueira was told to prioritise Wonder Woman script over Teen Titans. Fingers crossed that casting is imminent.

Lars Eidinger has been cast as Brainiac for Man Of Tomorrow (July 9th 2027). A female warrior is also being cast. Filming begins from April 2026.

Superman (2025) is on the shortlist for Best Visuals at the Oscars.

DC Super Powers will feature Guy Gardner, Tula, Jessie Quick's Flash, Terra as well as Martian Manhunter and Mr Terrific.

The first trailer for Supergirl (June 26th 2026) was released this month. Seth Rogan has also been cast in a role while David Corenswet's Superman will also appear. Ramin Djawadi will score the movie.

Superman (2025), Peacemaker and Harley Quinn (HBO Max) have all been nominated for Critics Choice Awards.

Although not officially confirmed, we should be getting upcoming seasons of both Batman: Caped Crusader and My Adventures With Superman in 2026.

Captain Atom will appear in the second season of Creature Commandos. James Gunn won't be writing for the show.

HBO recently showed clips of Lanterns when promoting their 2026 slate of shows. A release date will confirmed in due course.

The Jimmy Olsen spin-off will begin filming shortly after the completion of Man Of Tomorrow.

For now, it appears that Netflix have won the battle for Warner Brothers. James Gunn and Peter Safran have had their contracts extended.

My Review of Aztec Batman: Clash Of Empires (2025)

Yohualli: "A wise man told me once, fear can kill you or inspire you to action."

This movie was released a few months ago with little fanfare but some criticism for perpetuating the use of anti- Spanish "Black Legend". It's also another Elseworlds look into Batman. This time with Aztecs and Conquistadors front and centre of things.

Our Batman in question was a young man named Yohualli Coatl (Horacio García Rojas). He grieved the loss of his mother, questioned the gods and occasionally disagreed with his well meaning father, Toltecatzin (Jorge R. Gutiérrez) on certain things.

The arrival of Hernán Cortés (Álvaro Morte) would soon unsettled Yohualli's community as Cortés didn't take long to show his true intentions and neither did his right hand man, Pedro de Alvarado (José Carlos Illanes) with Toltecatzin becoming a casualty in Cortés greed for gold.

This did lead our hero right into working under  King Moctezuma II (insert) and trying to warn him about Cortés true intentions when the latter made himself known. It didn't help that Yoka (Omar Chaparro), while under the influence of Huitzilopochtli (Luis Burmudez) was also giving the King some genuinely terrible advice about the Conquistadors that had severe consequences for everyone involved.

As Yohualli gained assistance from an Alfred variation and Jaguar Woman (Teresa Ruiz), he also had spiritual encounters with the Forest Ivy (Maya Zapata) and essentially became the much feared Bat God. On the other hand, Cortés became Two-Face and Yoka became the Joker.

The rest of the movie became something of an expected bloodbath with both Aztecs and Conquistadors fully trying to wipe one another out. There's nice nods to previous live action Batman movies, a sacrifice of sorts for the Bat God and the promise much more evil to come.

- Pedro was a variation of Azrael while Jay Hernandez and Raymond Cruz provided English dubs for Yohualli and Yoka.

- The mid credit scene introduced a variation of the Penguin as a Plague Doctor and the design looked fantastic.

- Standout music: There's a subtle use of a certain theme and it's used at the right time.

- Chronology: Set in the 1500s of the Aztec Empire.

I actually enjoyed Aztec Batman: Clash Of Empires. It's a really good Elseworlds story and I certainly wouldn't object to a sequel, though I don't anticipate we'll get one. It's worth a watch if you haven't already seen it.

DCU Blog - October 2025 Edition: MOT & TBPtII Updates, Supergirl Reshoots And More

It's nearly Halloween and October is almost at an end. Here's an update on what's been going on in the world of the DCU this month.

As of now, James Gunn's still working on the script for Man Of Tomorrow (July 9th 2027). A recent description for a character seems to suggest either Brainiac or Mongul as the main villain.

Colin Farrell has recently discussed both The Batman - Part II (October 1st 2027) and the now scrapped Sgt. Rock movie he was going to star in.

Warner Brothers is up for sale again and will be purchase by someone in 2026. As of now, they've currently rejected an offer from Paramount.

The Batman - Part II will take place a few weeks after the events of The Penguin.

Reshoots for Supergirl (June 26th 2026) are underway. It's also been confirmed the movie will be faithful to the source material.

Andy and Barbara Muschietti have confirmed they will have to wait a few months before they can talk about The Brave And The Bold. 

DC Studios have recruited Jock for the upcoming Dynamic Duo (June 30th 2028) animated movie.

Batman: Knightfall will be a four part animated movie, with the first part to be released in 2026.

Clayface (September 11th 2026), starring Tom Rhys Harries in the title role will finish filming this week.

James Gunn has confirmed that there are no plans for a third season of Peacemaker.

James Gunn also has had discussions with Keanu Reeves about a Constantine sequel but no script has been greenlit as of now.

Despite his current deal with Paramount, James Mangold is still interested in making a Swamp Thing movie for DC Studios.

The Bat-Fam animated series will premiere on Amazon Prime from November 10th.

No release date for Lanterns has been confirmed yet but a recent image did confirm Nathan Fillion's involvement as Guy Gardner in the show.

A Strange Adventures TV series is in development, though this has yet to be officially confirmed. 

In terms of comics, both Wonder Woman and Batman will crossover in their Absolute universes. Zatanna will also have a major in the Wonder Woman side of things.

DCU Blog - September 2025 Edition: Superman Sequel Confirmed, Penguin Bags Emmys And More

As the third quarter of 2025 draws to a conclusion, there's some wins, sequel announcements and an upcoming animated series.

If Superman (2025) wasn't already a success, the sequel has been confirmed by James Gunn. Expect Man Of Tomorrow to be released from July 9th 2027. Filming will begin April 2026.

As for Superman (2025) itself, it's managed to clock in over 13 million viewers upon it's HBO Max debut over a week ago.

Filmimg for The Batman - Part II (October 1st 2027) will commence in the UK from May 2026. It'll feature a never done before villain.

James Gunn has clarified that aspects of The Brave And The Bold are in flux but also that the movie will be released before 2030.

We've been getting plenty of outdoor filming pics for Clayface (September 11th 2026), including a nod to Nosferatu and references to other DC characters.

Matthew Lilliard has expressed an interest in working with James Gunn in the DCU.

Matt Reeves has also admitted that he'd be open to directing a DCU movie in the future. The Batman remains Elseworlds (boo).

Michael Rosenbaum also revealed that there's a moment in Supergirl (2026) (June 26th 2026) that wowed him.

The Penguin came up good at the Emmys, including a win for Cristin Milioti. A second season is being considered. 

Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber have done rewrites for the upcoming Dynamic Duo (June 30th 2028) movie.

Isabel Merced has confirmed she'll be back for Man Of Tomorrow. I expect a lot of characters will be.

Lanterns will be an early 2026 release on HBO. It'll likely debut after A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms. 

While Peacemaker might not get a third season, James Gunn has confirmed that characters from the show will appear in other DCU projects. David Corenswet will not appear in the remaining episodes.

The Bat Family show will premiere on Amazon Prime in November.

There's rumours of Pom Klementieff being cast as Huntress for the DCU. 

DC have sadly cancelled both their Birds Of Prey and Green Arrow books. Meanwhile Absolute Wonder Woman is selling out. A Zatanna themed Halloween book is coming out on October 1st.

A good amount of rumours and confirmations this month. Expect the next few months to be crazier as two certain movies enter production.
