DCU Blog - May 2025 Edition: Superman Promo Kicks In, Peacemaker Role Revealed and Comics Crossover Alert

This was certainly a month for a lot of DC news. Sadly there's one piece of bad news but the rest was definitely something worth celebrating.

The promotion for Superman (July 11th) has well and truly kicked in. We got a brand new trailer, photoshoots with David Corenswrt and Nicholas Hoult, merchandise reveals and a World Tour coming from June 19th onwards.

Apparently a draft for The Batman - Part II (October 1st 2027) has been completed. Filming will commence in early 2026.

Lauren LeFranc has recently confirmed that other spin offs beyond The Penguin are currently in development.

Filming for Clayface will start in October with the movie still confirmed for September 11th 2026 theatrical release.

Filming for Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow (June 26th 2026) has now wrapped. Some filming pics did give vague looks at both Milly Alcock and Jason Momoa's respective looks for Supergirl and Lobo.

Bad news is that Luca Guadagnino's Sgt. Rock movie, which would've had Colin Farrell in the title role and Mike Faust in an undisclosed role has been put on hold. It may be picked up for filming next summer.

Some concept art for Dynamic Duo (June 30th 2028) did surface online yesterday. I'd post them but I'd like to not to have my blog striked. 

Keanu Reeves, according to Peter Stormaire isn't happy with the progress of the Constantine sequel script. At this point, just pull the plug on this idea.

A trailer for the second season of Peacemaker (August 21st on HBO Max) has confirmed that Sean Gunn, Nathan Fillion and Isabela Merced will reprise their roles as Maxwell Lord, Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl in the series. Michael Rooker will play Red St. Wild, who will be an enemy of Eagly.

Colin Farrell and Danny DeVito will be on the upcoming season of Actors on Actors. Their episode will premiere June 2nd on YouTube.

James Gunn did seem to give some encouraging updates on Wonder Woman when asked online. Paradise Lost is still being written.

At least two Teen Titans movies are in development. One for the DCU (though they're to decide who the Robin will be) and the other will be an animated one set in the Teen Titans Go! Universe.

DC/Marvel comic book fans can enjoy a Batman/Deadpool six part crossover event from September. Another crossover event with other characters will release in 2026.

The 2025 DC Pride issue will come out on June 4th. However, this issue will feature an interconnected story focusing on a century old LGBTQ+ tavern in Gotham City. 

Lanterns will premiere on HBO in early 2026, before the release of Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow. Filming is still currently active and there's a casting rumour, I'm holding back on but will discuss next month if it's true.

James Gunn has confirmed that the next movie he's writing is something that hasn't been previously announced. World's Finest has been rumoured a lot.

This was definitely a great month for DCU news, minus one particular set back. 

DCU Blog - February 2025 Edition: Massive Updates/New Projects Announced, Puppy Bowl and The Sandman Cancelled

I mean this was an eventful month but the last few days, it really was a hell of a time to be a DC fan.

This month had some Superman (2025) promo at the Puppy Bowl with a brief look at the upcoming movie. Another trailer will be coming soon. July 11th 2025. Rick Strauss will help with the marketing for the movie.

Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow is currently halfway through filming. It will be released in theatres from June 26th 2026.

Sgt. Rock has officially been confirmed by James Gunn with Luca Guadagnino directing from a script written by Justin Kuritzkes. However, Daniel Craig isn't attached to play the title character.

James Gunn has also confirmed that Ana Nogueira has written a script for Teen Titans while a writer has been confirmed for The Brave And The Bold. Gunn will be working close to that writer but Andy Muschietti might not direct the film after all.

Bad news for Wonder Woman fans as it was confirmed this week that the upcoming game has been cancelled. However, there's been talks NetherRealms and RockSteady for future DCU games.

DC will be teaming with Mattel again for action figures in 2026. 

James Watkins has been tapped to direct Clayface (September 11th 2026), which will start filming during the summer. Casting coming soon.

Yet again, the script for The Batman - Part II hasn't been handed in. The film is still due to be released in theatres from October 1st 2027.

Development for Dynamic Duo (June 30th 2028) is underway but it's unclear if it'll be a DCU movie or an Elseworlds one.

James Gunn and Zack Snyder recently took a photo together but the latter isn't returning to the world of DC.

Natasha Lyonne and Ana Lily Amirpour have teamed up to bring Vertigo series, Basketful Of Heads as a live horror comedy series.

In less good news, the following DCU projects have hit speed bumps - Waller, Booster Gold, Swamp Thing and The Authority.

Filming for Lanterns has begun and a first look image of Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler's John Stewart and Hal Jordan has been released. It will air on HBO in early 2026. The show could run for multiple seasons.

The goal for DC projects per year will be two live action movies, one animated movie, two live action shows and two animated shows. Some will be DCU and others will be Elseworlds.

A pilot episode for Wonder Woman prequel series, Paradise Lost is currently being written.

The animated Blue Beetle series with Xolo Mariduena reprising the role will be greenlit soon. 

Matthew Orton has been confirmed to be writing a DC movie but it's not been confirmed if it's one involving the characters, Deathstroke and Bane.

There's been talks about DC themed park rides at Six Flags as well as some new character skins for Fortnite.

In news that's not too shocking, Netflix announced that the second season of The Sandman will be it's final season. A release  date has yet to be confirmed.

The second season of Peacemaker will be released on Max from August 2025. Expect a new theme song as well. 

The Penguin keeps winning the awards and it's possible that a second season could happen, though Colin Farrell has expressed some doubt about it.

The following animated shows have been announced - DC Super Powers, Starfire, Krypto (series of seasonal shorts) and My Adventures With Green Lantern. The latter will focus on Jessica Cruz and be set in the same universe as My Adventures With Superman.

In tragic news, Gene Hackman passed away yesterday along with his wife and dog. Condolences to their loved ones.

Both Keanu Reeves and Francis Lawrence are pushing to get that Constantine sequel made. It hasn't been greenlit as of yet.

What a month and what a lot of news to mull over. DC fans really do have a lot to look forward to for the next while.

My Review of Teen Titans: The Judas Contract (2017)

Beast Boy: "But in the end, when the chips were down... and she finally showed her true self... Terra Markov was like a diamond. The most beautiful thing that I'd ever seen."

Follow the events of Justice League vs. Teen Titans, you've now got an established group of the latter. Once again, it's Nightwing (Sean Maher), Starfire (Kari Wahlgren), Robin (Stuart Allan), Raven (Taissa Farmiga), Blue Beetle (Jake T. Austin), Beast Boy (Brandon Soo Hoo) and now Terra (Christina Ricci) in the mix.

After the character actively sought out the Teen Titans, in this movie, she seemed to struggle to actually connect with them. With Beast Boy, she found him exhausting and the fact that he fancied her was something Terra didn't care for. There was also mutual distrust between Terra and Raven.

The one Titan she kind of connected with was Robin aka Damian Wayne but even that got married when it was revealed that Terra was working with Deathstroke (Miguel Ferrer) of all people. Yup, he's back and he's even more unpleasant here than he was in Son Of Batman. 

When he wasn't lording it over capturing Damian, the real nature of his relationship with Terra was revealed. If you've read or are familiar with the comic book this movie's based on, this didn't shy away from the insidious aspects of Deathstroke and Terra. The latter's completely under Deathstroke's spell until he made it clear he had no problem sacrificing her along with the rest of the captured Titans (except Nightwing).

While Deathstroke was at his most vile in this movie, he's not the main villain. Instead he's working on behalf of a fanatical cult ran by Brother Blood (Greg Henry) and Mother Mayhem (Meg Foster). Their plan involved absorbing the Titans powers through a machine so Brother Blood could become a god. 

It's a convoluted plan that inevitably failed with Terra eventually siding with the Titans and sacrificing herself to help save the day. Terra's sacrifice did affect the team and there's a lovely moment with Kevin Smith (yes, it was really him) talking to Beast Boy about her and being a Titan in general.

- Wonder Girl, the Donna Troy version joined the team after Terra. The original Titans also included Bumblebee (Masasa Moyo), Kid Flash (Jason Spisak) and Arsenal (Crispin Freeman).

- Other subplots included Nightwing and Starfire moving in together and Blue Beetle volunteering at a soup kitchen as well as reconnecting with his family.

- A post credit scene revealed that Jericho survived from being shot by Mother Mayhem.

- Chronology: A year since the events of Justice League vs. Teen Titans.

Teen Titans: The Judas Contract adapted that particular comic story rather well, even with the sheer horror of Deathstroke and Terra's relationship. The various subplots are also handled pretty well.

My Review of Justice League vs. Teen Titans (2016)

Ra's al Ghul: "You dare disobey me? Have you forgotten your heritage? You are an al Ghul."

Robin: "No... I'm a Titan!"

Following two movies where Batman (Jason O'Mara) had to grapple with a son like Damian Wayne/Robin (Stuart Allan), it seemed that both father and son realised that they couldn't really work with other no more. Fortunately there was a solution.

The solution being that Damian needed to interact with people closer to his age, so instead of assisting the Justice League, it was decided that he'd join the Teen Titans instead. Given Damian's social skills, this would be a bit of a doozy for him. The kid doesn't make the greatest of first impressions.

With Nightwing (Sean Maher) more as a former member, the group were led by Starfire (Karin Wahlgren) and comprised of Raven (Taissa Farmiga), Beast Boy (Brandon Soo Hoo) and Blue Beetle (Jake T. Austin). Damian managed to butt heads with all of them and got literally roasted by one of them with Raven having to step in to heal him.

As I've watched later movies, I know this continuity was hinting at a potential romance between Robin and Raven. In this movie, the two certainly clashed but also knew each other because of Raven healing Damian. This also meant Damian made a point to Starfire about Raven not being vetted. I trust Raven but Damian actually made a fair point.

Yup, the big bad in this movie of course was Raven's father, Trigon (Jon Bernthal) and he made a point of possessing Batman, Superman (Jerry O'Connell), Wonder Woman (Rosario Dawson), The Flash (Christopher Gorham) and Cyborg (Shemar Moore). This alone made the Teen Titans step up as a team in order to stop the threat of Trigon.

As a team, this lot definitely had their ups and downs and while Damian was his usual dour self, the more the movie progress the more he actually gelled with his team. By the end of the movie, he had successfully become a member while Raven had the perfect imprisonment for her hellish father.

- Other villains that popped up in this movie were Lex Luthor/Toyman (Steve Blum), Ra's al Ghul (Terrence C. Carson), Weather Wizard/Solomon Grundy/Atomic Skull (Rick D. Wasserman) and Cheetah.

- Setting up the next movie was a brief cameo from Terra towards the end of this movie.

- This movie made it clear that Superman and Wonder Woman were a couple.

- Chronology: Not long since the events of Batman vs. Robin. This movie was also released the same month as Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

Justice League vs. Teen Titans might not be the most epic of smackdowns but for an opening animated movie for this particular group, it's really good. The Trigon story was adapted well and Damian's progression as a character and working with others was a highlight.

My Review of Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans (2019)

Robin: "Say hello to the Teen Titans of infinite earths. Titans of infinite earths, go!"

2019 was a year for Multiverse DC crossover events. If it wasn't the Arrowverse going into full Crisis mode, then there was two groups of Teen Titans going head to head with each other. Who can we thank for this aside from Cartoon Network?

Oh, Trigon (Kevin Michael Richardson) of course. He decided that pairing with his more serious self and bringing two groups of Teen Titans together would be the smartest way to rule over the Multiverse. Needless to say, it wasn't the most thought out of plans.

For starters, the Teen Titans themselves Robin (Scott Menville), Starfire (Hynden Walch), Raven (Tara Strong), Beast Boy (Greg Cipes) and Cyborg (Khary Payton) initially clashed and ridiculed each other before properly banding together as a team. That was something both Trigons would struggle to do. 

In fact, the clash of the Trigons saw one merge into the other and because of that, both group of Teen Titans needed the help of not only the dimension hopping Worlogog but also the help of many versions of themselves to save the day. Why have two versions of the same group when you have so many instead?

Even with these versions, the reality was that only Raven was vital in saving the day. The Go! version was literally struggling with her demon being on the loose, temporarily losing herself and being happier before making peace with her demon. As for both Trigons, they got close to victory and yet so far.

Seeing both groups of Teen Titans interacting with each other was a lot of fun to watch. Not quite a tonal clash if I'm being honest but it was amusing watching the contrasts and similarities between the groups along with the arguing Trigons.

- We got Gentlemen Ghost and Darkseid, both voiced by Weird Al Yankovic at the beginning and end of the movie. The Teen Titans ignored Darkseid's latest invasion attempts.

- I did enjoy that Santa Claus (Robert Morse) can be bothered a villain and sometimes grudging ally for the Teen Titans. Both Santa and Mrs Claus (Grey DeLisle) were enemies for this one.

- Standout music: I would go with the rap influenced Cooperation.

- Chronology: Not only from where the previous movie left off.

Like the previous movie, there was a lot of fun to be had with Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans. Both groups, the multiverse madness of it, the Santa Claus diversion and the music choices. A diverting way to spend time.

My Review of Teen Titans Go! To The Movies (2018)

Guard: "The Justice League will stop you."

Slade: "Sorry, my pathetic friend, but the Justice League won't be coming... because they're watching a movie, and as considerate moviegoers, I'm sure they would have turned off their mobile devices... [pointing at the audience] ...unlike some people!"

I have to admit, I'm not a big watcher of Teen Titans Go! but I certainly can't help but admire it's longevity for a sequel series to a more serious animated show. Also, good on them for bagging a theatrical release.

The premise of this movie was all about the theatre experience too. Are you really a hero unless you have a movie about yourself? For the Titans themselves, that was the question, especially for Robin (Scott Menville), who wanted it the most.

The rest of the Titans - Starfire (Hynden Walch), Raven (Tara Strong), Beast Boy (Greg Cipes) and Cyborg (Khary Payton) didn't seem as pressed about it as Robin did but at the same time they went out of their way to make their home movie to show their appreciation for their leader. It would take until the third for that movie to make the impact it needed.

Before then there was the problem of the Teen Titans not having an iconic nemesis of their own. This was where Slade aka Deathstroke (Will Arnett) stepped in and his powers of persuasion being a general problem. Until he got outsmarted and all of a sudden, the Teen Titans became worthy of a movie.

The movie of course being directed by Jade Wilson (Kristen Bell) but because most of the Titans could take things seriously, it soon became a Robin lead movie that would release on the D.O.O.M.S.D.A.Y. device as a streaming exclusive. This would be also be where the nefarious plot of the movie would be.

With all the heroes taken out of the mix, it was the Teen Titans who had to stop Slade from enslaving the world with mind control. Oh and he was Jade Wilson in disguise too. At least a home movie gave Robin some perspective and a rap song of all things cemented a victory for the Teen Titans. Essentially, life lessons were learned about the nature of being a hero with a lot of songs.

- It's funny that this film joked about movies for Alfred and the Batmobile when we'd end up getting shows like Pennyworth and Batwheels.

- A credit scene revealed the Titans from the previous era to set up the next movie, Teen Titans Go! vs. Teen Titans.

- Standout music: GO!, This Is Where They Make Movies, Welcome To Jump City and Worthy Arch Nemesis.

- Chronology: Definitely set post 2016, considering the fun they had ribbing Batman V. Superman. 

Teen Titans Go! To The Movies was a hell of a lot of fun. I enjoyed the riffing off certain movies and this was probably the most fun that we've had a villain like Deathstroke used in a DC property. Fun for the kids, big and small.

DCU Blog - March 2024 Edition: Teen Titans Movie Go, The Penguin Trailer Released And More

Another busy month for DCU fans with a lot of information being spilled. 

In news that will shock absolutely no one, it was revealed that The Batman Part II will now be released from October 2nd 2026.

Joker: Folie A Deux will be a jukebox musical and contain at least fifteen cover songs. Lady Gaga has written music for the movie.

A potential costume reveal for David Corenswet in Superman will likely happen when the character starts outdoor filming next month.

James Gunn has confirmed yet again that no film will be officially greenlit until there's a script DC Studios are happy with.

A movie focusing on the Teen Titans will be written by Ana Nogueira, making this her second script following Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow.

Patty Jenkins has confirmed that her Wonder Woman journey is over. She's recently confirmed to be back for Rogue Squadron.

My Adventures With Superman will get a comic series released in June, serving as a bridge between the first and second seasons.

Action figures for Batman Forever will be released during summer 2025. The set will include Batman, Robin, Two-Face and Riddler with parts to build the Bat Creature from Bruce's nightmare.

The Penguin will premiere in the Fall on Max. The first trailer released this month, hinting at a rather violent and dark show.

The second season of Peacemaker will begin filming in June as confirmed by Jennifer Holland.

Waller won't begin filming until next year and will come out after both Superman and Peacemaker Season 2.

Sean Gunn has mentioned playing a more grounded version of Maxwell Lord for the DCU.

Douglas Smith has been cast as Jimmy Olsen for the final season of Superman And Lois. Yvonne Chapman will play Amanda McCoy.

Another trailer for Suicide Squad: Isekai was released but a release date for the series has yet to be confirmed. 

Dead Boy Detectives will be released on Netflix from April 25th.

Production Weekly have listed a Constantine movie being in development.
