Ana Nogueira could also be reuniting with Craig Gillespie for Wonder Woman, depending on the success of Supergirl.

Man Of Tomorrow (July 9th 2027) will introduce the character, Maxima. Expect casting news soon.

A recent spotlight for Supergirl (June 26th 2026) focused on Jason Momoa's Lobo.

Diarmaid Murtagh will be playing a space pirate in Supergirl. Krem will lead a bad of space pirate/human traffickers in the movie.

Lanterns star Kyle Chandler recently talked about his experience working on the show on Today. The show will premiere on HBO late summer.

Angel Manuel Soto has confirmed that we will see Blue Beetle and his family soon in the DCU. We still need progress on that animated show.

Filming for the Jimmy Olsen spin-off will take place around the same that Man Of Tomorrow will start filming.

The Mister Miracle animated series will take place in the DCU and will see the debut of Darkseid.

Hamish Linklater has confirmed that Season 2 of Batman: Caped Crusader will be released on Amazon Prime this year.

A good start for information in the first month of 2026. I'm expecting bigger casting news over the next few months.

With the writers strike officially resolved and the actors strike about to be as well, you can expect more developments for the future of DC as we head towards the final quarter of the year. For now, here's the latest news.

After months of waiting, we finally got our first trailer for Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom and it's still keeping its December 20th release date.

Some recent toys revealed a new character called King Kordax while Willem Dafoe will not be returning for the sequel.

Superman: Legacy should begin filming next Spring, once the SAG strike has been resolved.

Blue Beetle has grossed over $125 million worldwide and went to digital early this week.

DC Studios will be expanding it's production hub in the UK for many of its future productions.

Creature Commandos will be released in 2024 and is officially the first project from the DCU.

The second half of the final season of Doom Patrol will begin streaming from October 12th on Max.

Fans will be able to buy the first season of The Sandman on DVD from November.

All three seasons of Pennyworth, including a complete series box set is now available to buy.

DCU Blog - August 2023 Edition: The Flash Hits Max, Blue Beetle in Theatres and Rumoured Casting News

With the actor and writers strikes continuimg with no sign of a resolution yet, there's still news going around concerning all things DC.

Blue Beetle finally hit theatres and so far has made $81 million overall. Again though it's been stated that Xolo Mariduena will be a part of the DCU.

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom will keep it's December 20th release date.

The finale for My Adventures With Superman will be September 1st and September 14th for Harley Quinn.

The Flash hit Max last weekend and has been viewed by 1.1 million within its first few days. A physical release will be available for UK audiences from September 18th.

David Ayer has been talking about his intended version of Suicide Squad a lot recently. Will he get his wish?

Kevin Smith has reportedly seen a recent Schumacher cut of Batman Forever, which I'm more interested in seeing.

There have been conflicting reports surrounding Gal Gadot's future as Wonder Woman. James Gunn has yet to confirm either way.

In relation to the Paradise Lost prequel series, the book Wonder Woman: Historia will influence the series.

Now that the Dark Knights Of Steel comic has completed its series, expect action figures, starting with Batman of course.

Raoul Bhaneja has been cast in an undisclosed role for Creature Commandos. He previously appeared in the second season of Titans back in 2019.

Giancarlo Esposito has confirmed recently that he's in talks with James Gunn about a future role in the DCU.

A report of an October release for the last six episodes of Doom Patrol was unfortunately debunked.

That's it for this month. A bit lighter than usual but enough to mull over regardless.

My Review of Blue Beetle (2023)

Written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer
Directed by Angel Manuel Soto

Rudy (to Jaime): "The world sent you a gift and you have to figure out what to do with it."

I have to be honest. Of the remaining DCEU movies that were coming out in 2023, this was the one that I had the least excitement for. I'm not as versed with the character compared to other DC characters, I've never watched Cobra Kai and the trailers didn't really sell the movie as well as it should.

I bring this up because this movie fell into the category of being far better than I actually thought it was going to be. It's so good that it's creeped into my DCEU Top 5 and I really hope regardless of its box office outcome that James Gunn remains faithful to his word surrounding the character's future.

Anyways the movie started off with villains of the piece Victoria Kord (Susan Sarandon) and her bodyguard Ignacio Carapax/OMAC (Raoul Max Trujillo) in a frozen tundra getting their hands on an alien scarab that will change everything for the world. Notably for a young man named Jaime Reyes (Xolo Mariduena).

Jaime's graduated from college and upon learning that his family are about to lose their home managed to get a menial job at Kord Industries with his snarky sister, Milagro (Belissa Escobedo). It didn't take long for Jaime to attract the attention of Victoria's niece, Jenny (Bruna Marquezine) and nor did it take Jenny long to get Jaime to smuggle the alien scarab away from Victoria's grasp as well.

It also didn't take long for either Jaime to show his family the scarab or for the latter to bond itself to Jaime and transform him into the Blue Beetle. With Jaime forming a connection with the scarab also known as Khaji-Da (Becky G), Jenny and Jaime's uncle Rudy (George Lopez) learn more about the origins of the scarab and previous Blue Beetles while Victoria and Ignacio go to aggressive lengths to ensnare Jaime.

The lengths resulting in the death of Jaime's father, Alberto (Damian Alcazar) while Jaime's mother, Rocio (Elpidia Carrillo) and Nana (Adriana Barraza) basically led everyone else into rescuing Jaime from Victoria and Ignacio from completing the former's OMAC mission. All the while an unwilling Dr Sanchez (Harvey Guillen) was forced to extract from Jaime and the scarab to do it.

The third act definitely represented one of the strongest ones we've had in the DCEU. As villains, both Victoria and Ignacio started off a little rough but while the former was willing to murder her only remaining family member left, the latter after a brutal smackdown with Jaime decided on another course of action instead.

For an introduction into this side of the DC Universe, this was some strong stuff. The family angle has been explored in other movies but here, it felt a bit different. Even the romance with Jaime and Jenny felt organic enough with believable chemistry between the actors.

- Batman, Superman and The Flash were referenced along with first Blue Beetle, Dan Garrett. Ted Kord was the only Blue Beetle not bonded with Khaji-Da.
- Originally this was intended to be a HBO Max release before it became a theatrical release.
- The mid-credit scene had an uncredited voice actor for Ted Kord while the post credit scene was another look at that cartoon.
- We got to see some other Blue Beetle costumes in the Beetle cave as well as the big ship. Milagro and Nana had way too much fun with using Ted's gadgets as did Rudy.
- Standout music: There's a good use of All Out Of Love as well as a Spanish version of Be My Baby.
- Chronology: 2023, Palmero City. Jaime also mentioned being 22 years old.

It's always great when a movie actually exceeds your expectations. Blue Beetle certainly exceeded mine with a great lead performance from Xolo Mariduena, nice use of family dynamics and villains that got better as the movie progress. Some strong VFX, fight scenes, music choices, one liners, emotional bits and an ambiguous timeline all work in this movie's favour.

Rating: 9 out of 10

DCU Blog - July 2023 Edition: More Heroes For Superman: Legacy, Blue Beetle Approaches and The Flash Goes Audio

Well, with both the writers and actors currently striking and studios learning the wrong lessons, we're in for a few bumpy months ahead. Anyways, here's a round up of this month, DC wise.

Before the actors strike kicked off, four additional cast members were revealed for Superman: Legacy. Nathan Fillion will play Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced will play Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi will play Mister Terrific and Anthony Carrigan has been cast as Metamorpho.

There's a rumoured actor for Jimmy Olsen but I'll wait to see if/when that specific casting gets confirmed. It's very likely to be that actor though.

James Gunn has confirmed there are no current plan for a Suicide Squad project for the DCU but has potentially confirmed big screen animated movies.

Because of the strike, it's unlikely that any pre-production or casting will be done for The Batman - Part II this year.

Blue Beetle is due for release this upcoming month (August 18th) and in a turn of events, even Zack Snyder and David Ayer have tweeted/posted in support of the movie, with Xolo Mariduena in the lead role.

Overall The Flash has made $268.1 million from the box office but managed to get number one upon its digital release for it's first week.

Zachary Levi has also spoken out about the criticisms surrounding Shazam! Fury Of The Gods while also admitting to being uncertain about his future within the DCU.

Prior to production shutting down on the second season of The Sandman, it was revealed that Indya Moore had joined the cast in an undisclosed role.

Michelle Gomez had voiced concerns that Max might not release the final episodes of Doom Patrol though James Gunn has assured they will be released later this year.

Carmen Ejogo's character, Eve will be a love interest for Oswald Cobblepot for The Penguin series on Max.

Max Greenfield was cast as Barry Allen for the audio series, The Flash: Escape The Midnight Circus, which was released this month.

The 2024 DC Animated movies will be Watchmen and Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths.

A prequel comic series for Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom will be released from October.

The final episode of Superpowered: The DC Story will be released on Max from August 3rd and air on SkyShowcase from August 7th at 11.30pm.

That's it for this month. As always, let's see what happens next month.

DCU Blog - June 2023 Edition: Superman: Legacy Cast, The Flash Disappoints And SDCC News

Well this month certainly delivered some harsh blows and some potentially exciting stuff. It's really never a dull moment for DC fans, one way or the other.

The Flash finally debuted on the big screen and sadly it hasn't been the hit we'd all hoped. So far it's made over $210 million at the box office with it heading to digital from July 18th.

Ezra Miller did however attend the LA premiere of the movie on June 12th and even talked to some of the press about the character.

It was also revealed that two different endings had been filmed, prior to the one we ended up with.

Andy Muschietti however has been locked in to direct The Brave And The Bold for now. Ezra Miller and Sasha Calle's futures are yet to be confirmed.

However the biggest news to end the month was James Gunn confirmed that David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will play Superman and Lois Lane for Superman: Legacy. Filming won't start until 2024 for a July 11th 2025 release.

Both Alex Skarsgard and Bill Skarsgard have been considered for the role of Lex Luthor. That casting will be confirmed in due course.

Members of The Authority will also appear in the movie as will other heroes.

More reshoots happened this month for Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom with Jason Momoa posting about it on social media. The film will be released from December 20th.

It's been confirmed that while Blue Beetle isn't a DCU movie, the character is supposed to be the first character for the new era as well. The movie will be released in theatres from August 18th.

James Mangold has recently talked about working on Swamp Thing. However the movie will be a while before it happens.

James Gunn has also confirmed that they're miles away from casting the DCU Batman.

DC will have a panel of sorts for SDCC for comics and animation. In terms of the DCU having a panel there, it's not looking likely.

Season 2 of The Sandman has begun filming with Netflix releasing it in 2024. Ruari O'Connor has been cast as Orpheus.

The CW have renewed Superman And Lois for a fourth season of 10 episodes with only Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Michael Cudlitz, Alex Garfin and Michael Bishop remaining as regulars. Gotham Knights however was cancelled after one season.

Animation fans have the debut of My Adventures With Superman from July 6th on Adult Swim/Max and Season 4 of Harley Quinn from July 27th on Max. A three part documentary called Superpowered will premiere on Max from July 20th.

Russ Bain has been recently cast for Creature Commandos while The Penguin has halted filming until the writers strike has been resolved.

Again a very busy month for DC and it's fans in general. It'll be interesting to see what the second half of the year brings

DCU Blog - April 2023 Edition: Trailers for Blue Beetle and The Flash, Joker Sequel Wraps And More

Another month ends and the DC Universe continues to deliver on the news front. Let's just say that a lot happened this month.

CinemaCon had it's first screening of The Flash movie (June 16th) and everyone else got a second trailer for the movie.

Various cameos were confirmed for the movie itself while others were teased and some were debunked but it looks like DC could have a winner on their hands with this.

Saying that, Ezra Miller's fate in the DCU beyond this upcoming release has not been confirmed yet. Will they remain in the role? Hard to say for the time being.

As for the DCU, we can now confirm that James Mangold will be the director for the Swamp Thing movie, though he's also attached to a Star Wars project too.

With slightly less fanfare and earlier in the month, Blue Beetle premiered it's first trailer with the movie still slated for it's August 18th release.

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom will now be released in cinemas from December 20th with a trailer released at CinemaCon, though it's yet to be revealed publicly. The film does sound like a mixed bag.

The next DC animated movie will be Justice League: Warworld, which will be released during the summer.

Filming for Joker: Folie A Deux has officially wrapped. The movie will be released in theatres on October 4th 2024.

James Gunn still hasn't cast Superman for Superman: Legacy but pre-production has begun for the movie, due July 11th 2025.

Further casting for The Penguin series has included Theo Rossi, Scott Cohen, Carmen Ejogo, David H. Holmes, Craig Walker and Francois Chau. The eight episode series will premiere on (HBO) Max in 2024.

The official cast for Creature Commandos has been confirmed. Sean Gunn will play both Weasel and GI Robot, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr, Indira Varma as the Bride, David Harbour as Eric  Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Dr Phosphorous, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky and Maria as Princess Ilana Rostovic. Viola Davis and Steve Agee will also reprise their roles as Amanda Waller and John Economos for the series, which will be released in 2024 on (HBO) Max.

Amazon are not only going to be releasing Batman: Caped Crusader but also Merry Little Batman and Bat-Family.

DCPride 2023 Special will be released on May 30th.

The finales for both Superman And Lois and Gotham Knights will air on June 27th on the CW.

That concludes the movie for all the big DC news. Let's see what next month gives us.

DCU Blog - March 2023 Edition: Lady Gaga's Harley Revealed, Penguin Films, Titans Returns And More

Another month for the DCU and it's been very busy month with filming in New York with separate franchise as well as hints for the DCU itself.

Filming outdoors for Joker: Folie A Deux has revealed Lady Gaga's look for Harley Quinn or as she'll be mostly known as Harleen Quinzel. This version of the character may also be a patient at Arkham State Hospital.

A trailer for Blue Beetle will be released next week. The film is due in theatres from August 18th.

Shazam! Fury Of The Gods has made over $100 million so far in theatres. Sadly, it's the lowest grossing DCEU movie so far.

Take with a pinch of salt but there's rumours of another Justice League movie, possibly based on The New Frontier comics.

Rumours have circulated that Clayface will be a villain for The Batman - Part II, though it has yet to be confirmed by Matt Reeves.

Casting for the title role for Superman: Legacy has not been decided yet, though certain scoopers are trying to get it out of James Gunn.

Ben Affleck has confirmed that he won't be directing any movies for the DCU but he did confirm that Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman will be in The Flash.

Thanks to toy releases, Dark Flash has been confirmed as the actual villain of The Flash movie.

Filming for The Penguin series has revealed Clancy Brown as Salvatore Maroni and Michael Zegen as Alberto Falcone.

Tickets have sold out for SnyderCon. The event will take place between April 28th-30th and will include screenings for Man Of Steel, Batman V. Superman and Zack Snyder's Justice League.

Sweet Tooth's second season will be released on Netflix from April 27th.

Casting for Creature Commandos is imminent. Frank Grillo has been rumoured to be part of the casting for the show.

The second half of Titans fourth season will be released on HBO Max from April 13th. Jay Lycurgo will be suiting up as Robin and there will be an appearance from Stargirl in an episode.

My Adventures With Superman will premiere on Adult Swim later this year.

Batman: Caped Crusader has received a two season order and will stream on Netflix. More details to follow soon.

The series finale of The Flash will air on the CW from May 24th.

And that's it for the month. I wonder will get revealed next month as we edge closer to the DCU kicking off.

DCEU Blog - DC Studios Logo Revealed Along With Superman's Fate And So Much More

Well, this has certainly been an eventful year for DC and this last month alone really ramped up the chaos even more. What a way to end 2022 for DC.

Let's kick off things lightly with the reveal of the DC Studios logo. Notice the characters on it. Needless to say, they're going to be the main focus moving forward with DC.

Speaking of the Trinity, let's break some stuff down for a bit. For now, both James Gunn and Matt Reeves have confirmed The Batman will remain in it's own universe. Assuming this remains true, then they're going to have two live action versions of the Dark Knight on the big screen.

Patty Jenkins third Wonder Woman movie will not go ahead but the Amazonian remains a priority for DC and Gal Gadot's fate has to be confirmed beyond her cameo appearances in both Shazam! Fury Of The Gods and The Flash.

As for Superman, it appears that James Gunn has written a script for the next movie, focusing on a younger version of the character and while it won't be an origin story, it does mean one thing.

Henry Cavill is officially out as Superman after filming cameos for both Black Adam and The Flash, with rumours that his scenes from the latter have been removed.

The Flash meanwhile will now get released on June 16th, moving up a week from it's previous release date.

Blue Beetle had a nice poster released at CCXP as well as a tagline talking about the movie being the beginning of things.

Black Adam managed 1.2 million during it's first weekend on HBO Max but Dwayne Johnson has confirmed that he will not be coming back as part of James Gunn's future DC plans.

Joker: Folie A Deux began filming this month but fans of Lady Gaga will have to wait until next year for her to start working on the sequel.

Both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton's Batman scenes have been removed from Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom. Yup, they're both gone for good after The Flash movie.

James Gunn has admitted that he will be revealing some upcoming projects next month while Zachary Levi publicly appealed to fans to trust both James Gunn and Peter Safran in an Instagram live last week.

The script for The Batman is now officially available online to read. Here's hoping we get some sequel news next year.

Nicole Maines will reprise her role as Nia Nal/Dreamer in the ninth season of The Flash, due to air on the CW from February 8th 2023.

The CW will also air upcoming seasons of both Superman And Lois and Gotham Knights from March 14th 2023.

The fourth season of Harley Quinn will stream on HBO Max in 2023 with a Valentine's Day special due for release in February.

Both The Penguin and the second season of Peacemaker will film in 2023 for HBO Max while James Gunn has confirmed that the Green Lantern series will still go ahead.

Well, this month was a chaotic ending to what has been a very chaotic year for DC in general. Imagine what 2023 will be like when James Gunn's vision for the DCU will be unveiled? Expect a lot of fireworks.

DCEU Blog - Wonder Twins Deactivated, Gotham Knights A Go And More

Well, we are definitely living in some murky times with DC as certain projects are getting the axe, others are unknown and one we probably didn't need has gotten the go ahead. Let's break it down, shall we?

Wonder Twins went from announcing it's leading cast to being dropped in the ace of a fortnight. The movie will no longer go ahead. The budget was reported to be 75 million, which David Zaslav felt was too much for a streaming movie.

Amber Heard has admitted that her role in Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom has been reduced to ten minutes of screen time while the movie itself will have both Arthur and Orm working together.

Though yet to be confirmed, it's likely that Batgirl will now be a theatrical release. Jacob Scipio has confirmed he will be playing mob boss Anthony Bressi in the movie.

Filming outdoors has confirmed the costume reveal for Blue Beetle. Carlos Ponce, Jon Z and Mercy have also been added to the cast.

Black Adam's first trailer will be released on June 8th while Funko Pips have revealed the first look of the villain Sabbac, played by Marwan Kenzari.

The comic tie in for The Flash has been put on hold until closer to the movie's release in 2023.

HBO Max are considering a project focusing on Amanda Waller to be written by the Watchmen series writers as well as executive produced by James Gunn and Viola Davis.

Seth Green will now voice the role of Thunderbolt for the upcoming season of Stargirl. The third season will air in the autumn and have a murder mystery storyline.

It seems the while scripts for the Constantine and Madame X series have been submitted, there's rumours that the WB and David Zaslav are getting frustrated with JJ Abrams lack of movement with his DC projects.

The CW have picked up Gotham Knight for a series, but the show will debut in 2023, along with the next seasons of The Flash and Superman And Lois.

The current seasons of both Superman And Lois and The Flash will conclude on June 28th and 29th, respectively.

Naomi has been cancelled after one season.

A rumoured casting call for the upcoming The Penguin may see the limited series featuring a version of Clayface.

That's it for this month. Oh and be sure to check out the 2022 DC Pride, released today.

DCEU Blog - The Batman Gets A Sequel, CW Wield The Axe And More

It's been a hell of a month for DC fans. Some highs, interesting developments and possible disappointments, depending on your feelings for the CW side of things.

Thanks to CinemaCon, we now know for definite that The Batman will definitely be getting a sequel with both Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson confirmed to return.

The Batman has currently grossed over $750 million worldwide and even managed to pull in 4.1 million during it's first week on HBO Max.

The movie will also be available in DVD/Blu-Ray from June 13th.

Bad tiding for the CW as both Batwoman and Legends Of Tomorrow have been cancelled and there's likely more axings to come.

Harley Quinn will not only return for it's third season on HBO Max during the summer but it'll be getting a spin-off focusing on Kite Man and other minor baddies titled Noonans.

Rahart Adams has been cast as Brody for the upcoming Gotham Knights show.

Rumours are that the Constantine series for HBO Max will film from September onwards and will be eight episodes. Filming is expected for the UK and Morocco.

KJ Apa and Isabel May have been as the Wonder Twins for the HBO Max movie. Filming is due to begin in July.

Abrams and Coates long rumoured Superman movie will now not be a period piece and could feature Ultra-Humanite as the main antagonist. Emphasis on rumour.

Speaking of our favourite, Kryptonian, a younger version of the character will appear in The Flash movie.

Kevin Conroy has written a story for the upcoming DCPride issue, due out the end of next month.

Susan Sarandon will now play Victoria Kord for the Blue Beetle movie. Filming has begun.

Shazam! Fury Of The Gods will now be released on December 21st. Thanks to CinemaCon, Wonder Woman has also been confirmed for the movie.

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom has had a test screening. It seems that Mera's role has been reduced, Arthur and Orm are teaming up and Black Manta has leveled up as a threat.

Charlize Theron might be bringing the Aqualad novel, You Brought Me To The Ocean as a series for HBO Max.

Yup, it's been a hell of a month. What will the next one bring us?
