DCU Blog - December 2025 Edition: TBII/MOT Major Casting, Supergirl Promo Begins

And to end this year for DC fans, we've got a slew of exciting information. Assuming nothing else gets announced before tomorrow night.

Scarlett Johansson has been cast in an undisclosed role for The Batman - Part II (October 1st 2027). She'll film her role after working on Mike Flanagan's upcoming The Exorcist movie. Filming begins in May.

Clayface (September 11th 2026) will feature Batman in some capacity.

The Brave And The Bold is still currently being written and Andy Muschietti is still attached as director and we still don't have an actor for DCU Batman.

Recent rumours have indicated that Ana Nogueira was told to prioritise Wonder Woman script over Teen Titans. Fingers crossed that casting is imminent.

Lars Eidinger has been cast as Brainiac for Man Of Tomorrow (July 9th 2027). A female warrior is also being cast. Filming begins from April 2026.

Superman (2025) is on the shortlist for Best Visuals at the Oscars.

DC Super Powers will feature Guy Gardner, Tula, Jessie Quick's Flash, Terra as well as Martian Manhunter and Mr Terrific.

The first trailer for Supergirl (June 26th 2026) was released this month. Seth Rogan has also been cast in a role while David Corenswet's Superman will also appear. Ramin Djawadi will score the movie.

Superman (2025), Peacemaker and Harley Quinn (HBO Max) have all been nominated for Critics Choice Awards.

Although not officially confirmed, we should be getting upcoming seasons of both Batman: Caped Crusader and My Adventures With Superman in 2026.

Captain Atom will appear in the second season of Creature Commandos. James Gunn won't be writing for the show.

HBO recently showed clips of Lanterns when promoting their 2026 slate of shows. A release date will confirmed in due course.

The Jimmy Olsen spin-off will begin filming shortly after the completion of Man Of Tomorrow.

For now, it appears that Netflix have won the battle for Warner Brothers. James Gunn and Peter Safran have had their contracts extended.

DCU Blog - January 2025 Edition: Supergirl First Look, Puppy Bowl, Sinestro And More

We're just one month into 2025 and the DCU news has been coming at all corners. The majority being good fortunately. Here goes.

Filming for Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow has begun in the UK and this first look of Milly Alcock was released. David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham have been cast as Kara's parents.

David Leitch has expressed interest in making a solo movie for Lobo. Jason Momoa's role in Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow as Lobo will be a small one.

Josh Brolin has admitted that he's in talks for a big role in the DCU.

James Mangold has admitted his vision for his yet to be greenlit Swamp Thing movie will be more of a standalone event.

Superman (2025) will not have a trailer for the Superbowl in February but the Puppy Bowl will feature something relating to Krypto. The movie will have a presence at CinemaCon in April.

In news that's not too shocking, the second season of Peacemaker will have a new dance sequence.

A logo for DC Elseworlds projects is currently being worked on. This really is a smart idea.

DC animated movies to expect this year include Batman Ninja Vs. Yakuza League and Atzec Batman: Clash Of Empires.

Andy Muschietti recently admitted in an interview why he felt The Flash movie failed while also confirming that The Brave And The Bold won't be happening for a while.

Matt Reeves has also confirmed that filming for The Batman - Part II will take place later in 2025. They're not merging universes.

Joker: Folie A Deux found itself being nominated for the Razzies, including nominations for both Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. Yikes.

James Gunn has admitted that he's currently writing another DCU project at the moment. 

Ulrich Thomsen has been cast as Sinestro for the upcoming Lanterns series for HBO. Cameras have started rolling already.

The final season of Superman And Lois will air Sundays at 11.30pm on BBC1 from February 9th. All the episodes will be available on iPlayer.

Colin Farrell won a Golden Globe for his performance in The Penguin. The show has since been nominated for SAG awards.

Creature Commandos second season is currently being worked on. Other characters that nearly made it on the show included Solomon Grundy, Man-Bat and Vincent Velcoro.

My Review of Creature Commandos: "A Very Funny Monster"

Economos (re Project M): "Well, are you in?"

The Bride: "What else I gotta do?"

Wow, time really did fly by and in a month where we've been inundated with a lot to mull over with DC as well. After seven episodes, did this one manage to stick the landing? I think it just about did.

Of course, there's a bittersweet sting in the tail with Nina Mazursky. Arguably the sweetest character on the show, which was why her death hit that little bit harder. I know someone had to die but I can think of a more deserving character than Nina.

In flashbacks we saw that Nina was born to Edward and Lily Mazursky as a child whose lungs were on the outside of her body. Lily struggled to bond with Nina and eventually abandoned her. Edward on the other experimented with aquatic DNA, resulting in the version of the character we know of.

The rest of the flashbacks saw Nina being bullied by her peers until she couldn't take and fled to the sewers to unburden her own father. Then she attracted media attention, got caught and had to watch her father die. Overall, Nina didn't get a break here.

In the present day, Nina was the one also manipulated by the The Bride and Dr Phospherus to kill Princess Ilana with Weasel intervening. Unfortunately Nina ended up dead and we briefly believed the Princess was innocent. That was until The Bride realised she had been working for Clayface all along.

There's definitely reasons why James Gunn's depiction of women isn't always well received but I honestly think The Bride was his best character here and I was more than happy to see her deal with both the Princess and Eric Frankenstein the way she did. No wonder Amanda Waller gave her control of Project M.

- New members for Project M in Season 2 will include Khalis the mummy, Nosferata and King Shark (Diedrich Bader). Oh and G.I. Robot has a new body.

- A post credit scene showed Eric whinging about The Bride to another woman who gave him sparrow shit soup.

- Given that he has his own movie coming out, surely Clayface will revive himself. I assume Waller and Economos deployed a team to scoop him up. 

- Chronology: From where the previous episode left off in Pokolistan. Nina was from Star City, home of Green Arrow.

A Very Funny Monster was a good ending to an overall fun series. As a teaser for the DCU, I think this R rated animated show worked decently enough but I can't wait to see what Superman (2025) will actually bring to the table.

My Review of Creature Commandos: "Priyatel Skelet"

Dr Phospherus (to girl): "It looks like I'm smiling but I'm not."

With this penultimate episode, a long standing (and somewhat tiresome) theory got debunked. For the billionth time, Matt Reeves will not be merging Robert Pattinson's Batman into the DCU. Mostly because from the vague silhouette we saw, James Gunn will cast his own actor for the role.

A few episodes ago, we did see the Dark Knight slaughtered in a nightmare future seen by Circe and here, Batman appeared in flashbacks just as Dr Phospherus was embracing his newly acquired criminal lifestyle. Before that though we saw a much different version of the man.

In early flashbacks, Alexander Sartorius was a scientist looking to cure cancer. He was also being financially backed by mobster Rupert Thorne (Benjamin Byron Davis), who murdered Alexander's wife and son before causing Alex's transformation into Dr Phospherus. Suffice to say, Rupert didn't live much longer than that.

As the flashbacks saw Phospherus climbing up the criminal ranks, the present day version had him bond with a little girl before heading to the castle to kill Princess Ilana Rostavic. What about everyone else? What did they get up to?

Well, you had The Bride and Nina hanging out in a brothel, killing metahuman punters and verbally sparring with Madame Gyurov (Shohreh Aghdashloo). Mostly that was The Bride but both her and Nina caught up with Phospherus as did Weasel. Now will they kill the Princess?

As for the rest of the episode, Eric Frankenstein got a plane to himself to get back to Pokolistan while Ricky Flag Sr was in a coma after being fucked up by Clayface. At least he had Amanda Waller by his bedside to encourage him back to the land of the living. Selfless to a fault Amanda was.

- Batman being relegated to a silhouette must mean they're still trying to decide what his actual look will be when he appears in live action.

- Shohreh Aghdashloo appeared in The Penguin as Nadia Maroni. Is it too much to hope she'll get a live action role in the DCU?

- That little girl that Weasel saved in flashbacks was a younger version of Ilana. I did laugh at him playing fetch with a bunch of wolves who were going to kill him.

- Chronology: From where the previous episode left off. 

Priyatel Skelet was a doozy. Even without the Batman cameo, this episode delivered a hell of a backstory for Phospherus and great subplots with everyone else. Can't wait for next week's finale.

DCU Blog - December 2024 Edition: Superman Trailer, Batman Delayed And Lobo Cast

Well, it wouldn't be DC without a month of delightful chaos and this month was certainly chaotic in the best (and slightly worst) way possible.

December 19th saw the first trailer for Superman (2025) released and so far, it's clocked in over 50 million views on YouTube. The general reception has been positive. It will be released in theatres from July 11th 2025.

Creature Commandos has been renewed for a second season. The first season concludes on January 9th on Max.

James Gunn has confirmed that The Brave And The Bold hasn't been delayed, in response to a recent interview with Andy Muschietti that implied it had been.

Filming for Lanterns will now take place in February. Aaron Pierre has talked about playing John Stewart in recent interviews. Nathan Dillon is also expected to appear as Guy Gardner as well.

The sequel to The Batman has been delayed and will now be released on October 1st 2027. It will get a new title.

Frank Grillo has talked about enjoying his DC experience in recent interviews. He'll next be seen in Superman (2025) and the second season of Peacemaker. 

Jenna Coleman has revealed in recent interviews that she's returning as Johanna Constantine for the second season of The Sandman. It'll be released on Netflix in 2025.

Development on a potential project for The Flash is on hold for the time being.

In the worst kept secret going, it's been revealed that Jason Momoa will play Lobo in Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow. The film begins filming January 13th for a June 26th 2026 theatrical release.

Rumours for the Teen Titans movie are that the movie (yet to be greenlit) will use the line up from the animated series 

The Dynamic Duo movie, featuring Dick Grayson and Jason Todd will be released in theatres on June 30th 2028.

Sgt. Rock is also rumoured to film in the second half of 2025. It will likely get a 2027 release date.

Mike Flanagan has written the script for Clayface and while the director has yet to be confirmed, filming begins in early 2025 for a September 11th 2026 theatrical release.

The fifth season of Harley Quinn will premiere on Max from January 16th.

James Gunn has recently followed Jurnee Smollett on Instagram. Is she a potential return for Black Canary, a new DCU casting or neither?

The Penguin managed to crack into the Nielsen's Top 10 and has earned Golden Globe nominations, including ones for both Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti. 

And that's your lot for 2024. It's been a bumpy but never boring year for DC and I have a feeling 2025 will be similar in that regard.

My Review of Creature Commandos: "The Iron Pot"

Rick Flag Sr (to Eric): "You need to tell the Bride the truth."

If I didn't know that Frank Grillo would be reprising the role in both Superman (2025) and the second season of Peacemaker, I would've thought this episode was his last one. It's not but damn, did Clayface (Alan Tudyk) do a number on him or what?

With the Batman villain slated to get his own solo movie written by Mike Flanagan for 2026, this episode gave us a brief introduction of the character. Earlier in the season it was speculated that he was impersonating Ilana Rostovic but it turned out that it was Aisla MacPherson that he was imitating instead.

Anyways, spying on the Themyscira expert had both Flag Sr and Eric Frankenstein continuing their bromance (both are using the other btw) before Clayface nearly killed the pair. Eric might be a scumbag but at least he was smart enough to get one over on Clayface.

In terms of flashbacks, it was Eric's chance to shine and I'm going to commend James Gunn for not trying to humanise the guy. His possessiveness towards the Bride to one side, I hated his dynamic with Bogdana. I knew he was going to turn on her but it was even scummier when it actually happened.

As for the Creature Commandos themselves, they got sidetracked by Alexi and the rest of the Amethyst Knights with Ilana determined to kill them. This episode kept it ambiguous as to whether Ilana was actually innocent or not. Was Circe lying last week? Is Clayface really working for her or the Princess or does he have his own personal agenda?

- Alan Tudyk has voiced a much nicer version of the character for the Harley Quinn show. He won't be playing the character in live action.

- Dr Phosphorus really doesn't have a problem getting naked to showcase the true effects of his powers. 

- Clayface literally gave Rick Flag Sr the Bane treatment. Even in animation, it managed to look brutal enough. The XBox product placement was very blatant.

- Chronology: Not long from where the previous episode left off. Eric's presence freaked out a lot of college students.

The Iron Pot certainly didn't hold back in showing how awful Eric Frankenstein truly could be as a character. While not as good as previous episodes, it had its moments and I did like Clayface's presence here.

My Review of Creature Commandos: "Chasing Squirrels"

Nina (re Weasel): "I wonder what he's dreaming about."

The Bride: "Probably just chasing squirrels."

Remember when everyone thought Weasel killed 27 children? Well, it turns out that he didn't. Also, eight children died and if anything, Weasel, the poor thing was trying to save them. Talk about misjudging a character.

This episode was his time to shine with the flashbacks and my goodness, they were brutal. All Weasel did was befriend a bunch of children and between a freaked out groundskeepers, incompetent police and kids playing with matches, he got vilified big time.

On the other hand, Weasel did have at least one person in his corner. His lawyer, Elizabeth Bates (Linda Cardellini) genuinely believed he was innocent. She even tried to get him to give her more details on the incident in question but it didn't take. 

Instead as Weasel went off on another mission to Pokolistan with The Bride, Nina and Doctor Phosphorus, we had the Rick Flag Sr and Eric Frankenstein bromance to contend. I mean there was some fighting, initial rival confusion, references to Titanic and When Harry Met Sally but their scenes were enjoyable. I'm still rooting for The Bride to kill Eric though.

As for Circe, well, I think she's telling the truth. Showing Amanda Waller of a Knightmare sequence future with Ilana, Gorilla Grodd and the Amethyst Knights as rulers. Yup, it was enough to scare Waller into sending Project M to take out the Princess. Too bad Rick Sr was too busy thinking with his dick than brain this episode. 

- We got John Economos (Steve Agee) as well as Themyscira expert, Aisla MacPherson (Stephanie Beatriz) in this episode along with Congorilla (Jason Konopisos-Alvarez) and Nosferata in scenes.

- The Dark future included the likes of Batman, Robin, Superman, Wonder Woman, Starfire, Green Arrow, Vigilante and Peacemaker slaughtered.

- Circe might be powerless with her hands covered but she could still get into Waller's head for that particular scene.

- Chronology: From where the previous one left off.

I didn't think I'd care about Weasel but Chasing Squirrels really did make me feel bad for the poor fella. His flashbacks were suitably horrible while the other plots of the episode were also on top form. This one might be my favourite yet.

My Review of Creature Commandos: "Cheers To The Tin Man"

Circe (to Project M): "You don't understand what you've done. You've doomed the world."

Wait, could Circe not be the bad guy after all? Yeah, I dont think so. Saying that, it's also very possible that Flag Sr and his monster squad might have made a colossal boo boo. Oh dear.

Circe at the end of the last episode along with her band of loser incels, the Sons of Themyscira left The Bride and Nina Mazursky tied up for Flag Sr and company to find. They did that and then realised that Circe now had the head start.

Circe didn't waste time getting to the castle and while the Princess was savvy enough to outsmart and even kill some SofT losers, she almost got obliterated by Circe. I swear if Weasel hadn't shown up and gone very feral, Ilana would've been dead on the spot.

Personally while I get the criticism of Circe not being at her full power, I actually didn't mind both Weasel and Phosphorus getting the jump here. I think Circe just didn't expect them to get her so quickly but I am going to need to know why she's so determined to kill the Princess.

As for G.I. Robot, his death by Circe came as a surprise but it shouldn't have done. There's likely more deaths coming up in these remaining episodes. G.I. Robot did though get some meaningful flashbacks with the likes of Sgt. Rock (Maury Sterling), Will Magnus (Alan Tudyk) and Sam Fitzgibbon (Michael Rooker) all expanding his backstory before his death in this one.

- We got some appearances for the likes of Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man, Crimson Centipede and Fisherman to name some brief cameos along with Easy Company and a Metal Men Easter egg.

- Nina was quick to drop The Bride in it when they were heading back to the castle.

- I thought Ilana would've had a more up to date gun to defend herself instead of the one she did use.

- Chronology: Flashbacks to the 1940s, 1960s and 1990s for G.I. Robot.

Cheers To The Tin Man was a nice centre piece for G.I. Robot and it also remedied my previous criticism with the music from the first two episodes. The show's not holding back on the violence and this one even showed some entrails to boot.

My Review of Creature Commandos: "The Tourmaline Necklace"

The Bride: "Sorry."

Nina: "Go. Fuck. Yourself."

Okay, this one was better and it had two bizarre sex scenes in it. It also had two brilliant fight scenes and a really fun exploration of The Bride Of Frankenstein to boot.

If the first episode was about setting up the team, then from this episode onwards, we're clearly getting the proper backstories for each member of Project M. First up, The Bride herself.

Yes, she was created by Victor Frankenstein (Peter Serafinowicz) in order to be the perfect partner for the more entitled Eric but she hated him on sight. Even worse for Eric was the Bride's love for Victor, so Eric ended up killing him and a centuries long feud between the Bride and Eric has been a thing ever since.

In the current day though when the Bride wasn't sniping at Nina and looking for the titular necklace, there was the issue of Circe. Yes, Circe knew how to make an entrance and the violent smackdown between Circe and The Bride was something to behold. The fight sequences in this show have been astounding so far.

By the end of the episode, Circe and her incel Sons of Themyscira losers had captured both The Bride and Nina. While that was happening, Flag Sr was getting more intimately acquainted with the Princess and Phosphorus was more aggrieved that he couldn't do anything right according to Flag Sr.

- This episode had G.I. Robot mistook Phosphorus for a Nazi. Phosphorus also seemed to understand Weasel.

- Circe hitting The Bride with an iron rod did remind me of something involving two other characters. 

- Yes, we got a sex scene between The Bride and Victor Frankenstein. 

- Chronology: The flashbacks spanned from 1831 to 1991 for The Bride and her attempts to get away from Eric.

The Tourmaline Necklace certainly added a newish spin to The Bride and Frankenstein while giving a series of excellent fight scenes to match. Overall, a stronger episode than the first one.

My Review of Creature Commandos: "The Collywobbles"

Amanda: "This is your new task force, Flag. Let's call it Project M. M for monster, also known as -"

It's been a year since the DC Extended Universe ended on an underwhelming note with Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom. Now its the DC Universe and we're off to something of an animated start with Creature Commandos. 

Depending on how you feel about The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, your mileage may vary with this show. It's very much within James Gunn's wheelhouse, for better and for worse. Also, it heavily references his works in the former DC continuity.

No longer able to use humans for her dangerous missions, Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) has enlisted Rick Flag Sr (Frank Grillo) to work with a monster squad. The squad being The Bride (Indira Varma), Weasel/G.I. Robot (Sean Gunn), Dr Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk) and Nina Mazursky (Zoe Chao). Yup, it's very much within the Gunn wheelhouse so far.

Their mission involved the fictional European country of Pokolistan where the Princess Ilana Rostovic (Maria Bakalova) needed protection from Circe (Anya Chalotra) and her insufferable Sons of Themyscira. Yay for one half of that villain team up. The quicker the second half become a livestock, the better.

While Circe's role wasn't as large in this one as hoped, we did have some moments with Flag Sr and the group in Pokolistan. There's some cringey flirting between Rick Sr and the Princess but a fight scene between the former and Phosphorus was actually a delight to watch.

Also a delight was G.I. Robot. His desire to kill Nazis to one side, there's a rather sweet potential romance with him and Nina bubbling under the surface. There was also The Bride heading back to the place she was born and with that, a rather creepy ending involving Eric Frankenstein (David Harbour).

- Weasel has killed 27 children but was largely treated like the group dog. G.I. Robot did think he was a Nazi at one point.

- Flag Sr became a father to the deceased Jr at 18 and gew to resent his ex-wife. 

- The title sequence, while not as good as Peacemaker did actually feature James Gunn in it.

- Chronology: Two years since the events of Project Starfish.

The Collywobbles does a decent job establishing the main characters, giving hints at each of their backstories. The weakest part was the Flag Sr/Princess subplot but other than that, a good start.

DCU Blog - November 2024 Edition: Sgt. Rock Cast, Superman Trailer Maybe And More

As we hurtle towards the end of 2024, the DC news keeps a coming, especially with the DCU less than a week away from starting up.

Daniel Craig will reunite with Luca Guadagnino and writer Justin Kuritzkes for Sgt. Rock, playing the titular character. Filming will start in the second half of 2025.

Joker: Folie A Deux has made a total of $206.4 million at the box office. It'll get a physical release from December 17th.

Eve Ridley will play Ruthye Marye Knoll in Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow. Filming will begin in the UK from January 2025.

The Teen Titans movie is rumoured to be using the roster from the cartoon but that's a current rumour and they haven't decided on the Robin for it.

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story will make its debut on HBO and Max from December 7th.

Are we getting a trailer for Superman (2025) in December? The trades/scoopers seem convinced we are and James Gunn hasn't debunked it either. A trailer has been prepared for the occasion.

James Gunn has also mentioned that Superman (2025) will have a serious tone in recent interviews. 

Garrett Dillahunt and Poorna Jagannathan will play William Macon and Zoe for the upcoming Lanterns HBO series, joining series regulars Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre and Kelly McDonald. Filming will begin in California in January 2025.

The previously announced Bane and Deathstroke movie will not be a Secret Six movie but will feature other villains, assuming it gets made.

There's a rumour of a potential animated movie trilogy for the classic Batman comic, Knightfall.

Alan Tudyk will voice Dr Phospherus, Clayface and Will Magnus for Creature Commandos. Not to mention that undisclosed role for Superman (2025). Released on Max weekly from December 5th.

Circe will have a large role in the DCU moving forward with Anya Chalotra reprising the role in live action for future projects. That won't be the same for other voice actors.

The Clayface movie rumours with Mike Flanagan writing but not directing have popped up again. It'll be a younger actor for the role if the movie goes ahead. Rumours for a 2025 filming.

The Authority may end up being an animated movie if it ever gets made. I have my doubts on it ever happening.

The Batman - Part II will film in the second half of 2025, likely later summer. The script had yet to be handed in. 

Peacemaker Season 2 has finished filming after seven months. Frank Grillo also revealed a lot about his Rick Flag Sr arc for that show in recent interviews. Brandon Stanley was also cast in an undisclosed role.

The series finale of Superman And Lois airs December 2nd on the CW. It marks the end of an era for DC on the CW.

The Penguin will get a physical release from March 2025. The miniseries recently finished up on HBO.

Tatiana Siegel will be writing a book about the history of the DC franchise. That's gonna be quite a page turner.

James Gunn and Peter Safran won't be attending CCXP in December.

DCU Blog - October 2024 Edition: NYCC Debuts, John Stewart Casting And More

Oh yes, it's been a very busy month for DC fans. Most of it good but some setbacks too. Let's dive in, shall we?

After weeks of speculation, it was confirmed that Aaron Pierre would be starting as John Stewart for the upcoming Lanterns show, filming from January 2025 for a 2026 release on HBO. Pierre's previously appeared in the SyFy series Krypton.

Kelly MacDonald has also been offered a mystery role for Lanterns. She will play the role of Sherriff Kerry as well as a love interest for Hal Jordan. James Hawes will direct a block of episodes for the show.

James Gunn has confirmed that a trailer for Superman (2025) has been cut and will release soon. It's possibly for CCXP in December. Ultraman will appear in the movie along with Krypton, following confirmations from both a toy release schedule for the former and the latter confirmed by Gunn himself.

Casting for the character of Ruthye has gone under way for the upcoming Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow. Expect that to be revealed very soon.

Both James Gunn and Matt Reeves took to Twitter (not calling it X) earlier in the month to announce upcoming animation/puppetry movie, Dynamic Duo. It will likely be set in the DCU and will focus on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. Matthew Aldrich has written the script.

Matt Reeves has also confirmed that another spin off set within The Batman universe will be happening, following the success of The Penguin on HBO.

James Gunn has confirmed that there's been movement on Paradise Lost and the DCU's Wonder Woman.

Josh Brolin hasn't ruled himself out of a future DCU role despite turning down the role of Hal Jordan. 

Creature Commandos made it's debut at NYCC with a new trailer and confirmation of characters such as Clayface, Rupert Thorne as well as actors such as Benjamin Byron Davies, Michael Rooker, Linda Cardellini, Gregg Henry, and Peter Serafinowicz in voice roles. Premieres on Max from December 5th.

Peacemaker will have a new helmet design in the second season as well as a connection to Creature Commandos. Filming should conclude soon for the Max series. Alethea Jones has directed for the upcoming season. A mystery character was also teased.

The Milton Fine version of Brainiac will appear in the final season of Superman And Lois but that's not Tom Cavanagh's role.

Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story continues to get a wider theatrical release. I'm hoping to see it next month.

In bad news, Joker: Folie A Deux has unfortunately bombed at the box office, pulling in a measly $201.4 million. It's been available on digital since October 29th.

A trailer for Watchmen: Chapter II also released. It'll be available from November 26th on digital with a physical release on December 3rd.

Harley Quinn TV series on Max was slated for a November release but will now likely be held off until early 2025.

Beast Boy: Lone Wolf is now officially available to watch on Cartoon Network.

A good month for the most part as we wind towards the end of this year for DC and in general.

DCU Blog - July 2024 Edition: SDCC Highlights And More

Well, July certainly turned out to be a very busy month for DC. Various things confirmed in the press and also at SDCC itself. Buckle in folks.

The second trailer for Joker: Folie A Deux, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga was released last week, further solidifying the jukebox musical format. In theatres from October 4th. Harry Lawtey will play Harvey Dent in the movie.

Filming for Superman (2025) has now completed. Will Reeve, the son of Christopher Reeve will appear in the movie. The movie will be released July 11th 2025.

Casting for the roles of Ruthye and Krem have started for Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow. The movie starring Milly Alcock as Supergirl will begin filming later this year. The movie will be released June 26th 2026.

DC Studios unveiled their new logo. It's basically the same as the one from 1976-2005.

Kumail Nanjiani has been heavily rumoured for the role of Booster Gold in the DCU. The fact that James Gunn hasn't denied it is interesting. An announcement must be imminent.

Lanterns will now go to HBO as well as Max. Hal Jordan will be older than John Stewart in the project. Casting for the roles has begun.

The Penguin will air on Max and HBO from September 19th. It'll take a place a week after the events of The Batman. Colin Farrell will reprise the role for the sequel, due to film in early 2025 for an October 2nd 2026 release. Mark Strong is a recast Carmine Falcone.

The first trailer for Creature Commandos was released last weekend, confirming the December 2024 release on Max.

All 10 episodes of Batman: Caped Crusader will be released on Amazon Prime from August 1st. Hamish Linklater will voice Batman while Minnie Driver will voice a female version of The Penguin named Oswalda Cobblepot.

Joel Kinnaman will reprise his role of Rick Flag Jr in the second season of Peacemaker. Details as to how have not been revealed.

The third season of My Adventures With Superman will introduce Superboy and a bald Lex Luthor. 

The fifth season of Harley Quinn will be released on Max from November. Spin off series, Kite-Man: Hell Yeah! is currently airing on Max. 

The first trailer for the fourth and final season of Superman And Lois was released during the weekend. It'll premiere on the CW from October 17th. Tom Cavanagh will appear in the final season.

Paradise Lost is circling it's lead writers. Circe (Anya Chalotra) will be a main cast member in Creature Commandos.

The Sandman has added Ann Skelly, Ruari O'Connor, Indya Moore, Douglas Booth, Freddie Fox, Laurence O'Fuarain, Clive Russell, Jack Gleeson and Steve Coogan to the cast as Nuala, Orpheus, Wanda, Cluracan, Loki, Thor, Odin, Puck and Barnabas respectively. Boyd Holbrook and Jenna Coleman will also return as the Corinthian and Johanna Constantine for the second season.

In some bad news, the Arkham series will no longer be going ahead. So far, it's the only DCU project to have been cancelled.

Those are the highlights of this month. So far, this year has been shaping up nicely for DC.

DCU Blog - January 2024 Edition: Supergirl Casting, Suicide Squad Discourse And More

Well, it's the end of January and the first month of 2024 has certainly provided plenty to discuss. 

Milly Alcock will play Supergirl and will appear in Superman: Legacy (which will be shot in IMAX)  before heading up Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow.

Other candidates for the Supergirl role included Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly, the latter who voiced the role in Tomorrowverse animated movies.

A director for Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow is being sought but at least one may be in contention if social media likes are anything to go by.

James Gunn has confirmed that Batman will not appear in Superman: Legacy. 

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom has made over $412 million theatrically and was the number one movie upon it's digital release last week.

The script for The Batman Part II has yet to be submitted but rumours are that filming will start later this year.

Daniela Mechior (Ratcatcher 2 from The Suicide Squad) has confirmed that she's not in the DCU as of now.

Apparently Ta-Nehesi Coates Superman movie is still in development.

Anya Chalotra has officially been confirmed to be playing Circe in Creature Commandos. The show will premiere in late 2024 on Max.

Jared Abrahamson has been cast in an undisclosed role for The Penguin series, which will be released on Max in late 2024.

Filming for the final season of Superman And Lois has begun. David Giuntoli (Elizabeth Tulloch's real life husband) will direct an upcoming episode.

James Gunn is currently writing the last episode of Peacemaker Season 2. Filming could start later this year.

Kevin Conroy has voice roles for both Caped Crusader and the final part of Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths. 

The Christopher Reeve documentary Super/Man will be acquired by Warner Brothers for $15 million.

Reginald Hudlin confirmed that DC's animated Milestone movie will still be going ahead.

DCU Blog - December 2023 Edition: Aquaman 2 numbers, New Pics For Joker sequel and Farewell DCEU

My final DC blog for 2023 and it's case of closing the past while signalling the future.

The DC Extended Universe has ended and now the DCU and the Elseworlds are the order of the day. Let's go over things shall we?

As of now, Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom has made over 138 million in the box office so far, which isn't great but maybe it breaks even.

However, it's clear as day that Jason Momoa will no longer play the Atlantean hero but is he play Lobo? He didn't exactly say no upon being asked recently. He didn't say yes either. 

The Flash made Barack Obama's list of favourite movies for 2023, so that's pretty good.

Tim Burton recently revealed his abandoned Catwoman spin off movie would've been in black and white with Selina Kyle in a small town. 

Sean Gunn has been cast as Maxwell Lord for the DCU, making this his third role as he'll also be both Weasel and G.I. Robot for Creature Commandos.

Supergirl will appear in Superman: Legacy before we see her fly solo in Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow. Expect casting soon as well as a director confirmed for the latter movie.

Superman: Legacy will begin filming in March 2024 but we won't see a costume before filming begins.

On Christmas Day, director Todd Phillips released new pics of Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga as Joker and Harley Quinn from Joker: Folie A Deux.

The Batman - Part II will apparently begin filming in August 2024. Barry Keoghan has teased returning as Joker but no characters have been confirmed for the sequel yet.

Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths Part 1 will be released from January 9th. It'll be a three part animated movie event.

James Gunn has confirmed that Matt Reeves show focusing on Arkham Asylum will actually be set in the DC Universe instead of his Batman Elseworlds.

Various spoilers leaked for Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, including a reveal for Poison Ivy.

DCU Blog - August 2023 Edition: The Flash Hits Max, Blue Beetle in Theatres and Rumoured Casting News

With the actor and writers strikes continuimg with no sign of a resolution yet, there's still news going around concerning all things DC.

Blue Beetle finally hit theatres and so far has made $81 million overall. Again though it's been stated that Xolo Mariduena will be a part of the DCU. 

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom will keep it's December 20th release date.

The finale for My Adventures With Superman will be September 1st and September 14th for Harley Quinn.

The Flash hit Max last weekend and has been viewed by 1.1 million within its first few days. A physical release will be available for UK audiences from September 18th.

David Ayer has been talking about his intended version of Suicide Squad a lot recently. Will he get his wish?

Kevin Smith has reportedly seen a recent Schumacher cut of Batman Forever, which I'm more interested in seeing. 

There have been conflicting reports surrounding Gal Gadot's future as Wonder Woman. James Gunn has yet to confirm either way.

In relation to the Paradise Lost prequel series, the book Wonder Woman: Historia will influence the series.

Now that the Dark Knights Of Steel comic has completed its series, expect action figures, starting with Batman of course.

Raoul Bhaneja has been cast in an undisclosed role for Creature Commandos. He previously appeared in the second season of Titans back in 2019.

Giancarlo Esposito has confirmed recently that he's in talks with James Gunn about a future role in the DCU.

A report of an October release for the last six episodes of Doom Patrol was unfortunately debunked.

DCU Blog - April 2023 Edition: Trailers for Blue Beetle and The Flash, Joker Sequel Wraps And More

Another month ends and the DC Universe continues to deliver on the news front. Let's just say that a lot happened this month.

CinemaCon had it's first screening of The Flash movie (June 16th) and everyone else got a second trailer for the movie.

Various cameos were confirmed for the movie itself while others were teased and some were debunked but it looks like DC could have a winner on their hands with this.

Saying that, Ezra Miller's fate in the DCU beyond this upcoming release has not been confirmed yet. Will they remain in the role? Hard to say for the time being.

As for the DCU, we can now confirm that James Mangold will be the director for the Swamp Thing movie, though he's also attached to a Star Wars project too.

With slightly less fanfare and earlier in the month, Blue Beetle premiered it's first trailer with the movie still slated for it's August 18th release.

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom will now be released in cinemas from December 20th with a trailer released at CinemaCon, though it's yet to be revealed publicly. The film does sound like a mixed bag. 

The next DC animated movie will be Justice League: Warworld, which will be released during the summer.

Filming for Joker: Folie A Deux has officially wrapped. The movie will be released in theatres on October 4th 2024.

James Gunn still hasn't cast Superman for Superman: Legacy but pre-production has begun for the movie, due July 11th 2025.

Further casting for The Penguin series has included Theo Rossi, Scott Cohen, Carmen Ejogo, David H. Holmes, Craig Walker and Francois Chau. The eight episode series will premiere on (HBO) Max in 2024.

The official cast for Creature Commandos has been confirmed. Sean Gunn will play both Weasel and GI Robot, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr, Indira Varma as the Bride, David Harbour as Eric  Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Dr Phosphorous, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky and Maria as Princess Ilana Rostovic. Viola Davis and Steve Agee will also reprise their roles as Amanda Waller and John Economos for the series, which will be released in 2024 on (HBO) Max.

Amazon are not only going to be releasing Batman: Caped Crusader but also Merry Little Batman and Bat-Family. 

DCPride 2023 Special will be released on May 30th. 

The finales for both Superman And Lois and Gotham Knights will air on June 27th on the CW.
