DCEU Blog - The Batman Gets A Sequel, CW Wield The Axe And More

It's been a hell of a month for DC fans. Some highs, interesting developments and possible disappointments, depending on your feelings for the CW side of things.

Thanks to CinemaCon, we now know for definite that The Batman will definitely be getting a sequel with both Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson confirmed to return.

The Batman has currently grossed over $750 million worldwide and even managed to pull in 4.1 million during it's first week on HBO Max.

The movie will also be available in DVD/Blu-Ray from June 13th.

Meanwhile The Penguin will begin filming  from June onwards, so expecting casting news in the next few weeks.

Bad tiding for the CW as both Batwoman and Legends Of Tomorrow have been cancelled and there's likely more axings to come.

Harley Quinn will not only return for it's third season on HBO Max during the summer but it'll be getting a spin-off focusing on Kite Man and other minor baddies titled Noonans.

Rahart Adams has been cast as Brody for the upcoming Gotham Knights show. 

Rumours are that the Constantine series for HBO Max will film from September onwards and will be eight episodes. Filming is expected for the UK and Morocco.

KJ Apa and Isabel May have been as the Wonder Twins for the HBO Max movie. Filming is due to begin in July.

Abrams and Coates long rumoured Superman movie will now not be a period piece and could feature Ultra-Humanite as the main antagonist. Emphasis on rumour.

Speaking of our favourite, Kryptonian, a younger version of the character will appear in The Flash movie. 

Kevin Conroy has written a story for the upcoming DCPride issue, due out the end of next month.

Susan Sarandon will now play Victoria Kord for the Blue Beetle movie. Filming has begun.

Shazam! Fury Of The Gods will now be released on December 21st. Thanks to CinemaCon, Wonder Woman has also been confirmed for the movie.

Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom has had a test screening. It seems that Mera's role has been reduced, Arthur and Orm are teaming up and Black Manta has leveled up as a threat.

Charlize Theron might be bringing the Aqualad novel, You Brought Me To The Ocean as a series for HBO Max.

Yup, it's been a hell of a month. What will the next one bring us?

My Review Of Legends Of Tomorrow's 7x13: "Knocked Down, Knocked Up"

Booster Gold (to the Legends): "I hope you don't have any plans for the near future because we're about to spend a lot of time together .... in jail."

Seven seasons. 110 episodes. More cast members that you can shale a stick at and least multiple versions of certain characters and it finally happened. Yup, Booster Gold has entered the Waverider and he's our hook for this show very likely getting renewed for an eighth season and I will genuinely be surprised if the CW don't announce it at once.

When I say entered the Waverider, I mean he stole the damn thing after reneging on his promise to help the Legends with their Alun dilemma and then setting everyone (including Alun) to get arrested for time crimes. Mike, you certainly know how to make a first impression.

Former Scrubs actor Donald Faison was originally meant to be a regular cast member of the CW's Powerpuff Girls live action series but with that looking less likely to happen, it's safe to assume he'll be a regular next season. So far, he's off to an interesting start as Booster Gold and I can't wait to see what the show intends to with the character.

As for Alun, we know that his death was a fixed point but we also know that both Gwyn and the Legends had their own plan. It worked and as a result while we've gained Alun as a regular for next season, we've sadly lost Nate as a character. Nate's exit was a tad rushed but at least he'll get to live in the town with Zari Tomaz even if he's lost his steel powers.

As for Sara and Ava, their pregnancy plans took a hell of a turn in this episode. I didn't have Sara actually being the one to get pregnant but Gary did manage to fill in the gaps of the logistics of her pregnancy as well as her now being vulnerable as a result of it. A good plot for the Avalance fans but something I would've left for a series finale, which this episode isn't intended to be.

Last but not least and before Mile decided to steal the Waverider, there was the Evil Gideon plot to do away with. Getting our Gideon into tricking her evil self into self destructing was a nice move. I've enjoyed Evil Gideon as a baddie but it was time for that storyline to come to an end and it was dealt with swiftly here.

- Even though he didn't wear the classic suit and likely won't next season, Mile certainly had other ways of telling us who he was before actually revealing his identity.

- Outside of Sara/Ava, the rest of the Legends seemed eager to avoid talking about the fates that evil Gideon had shown them.

- Standout music: Booster Gold certainly had fun with Here Comes The Hotstepper by Ini Kamoze.

- Chronology: 1916 Mametz Wood, France for the main action of the episode as well as 30,000 year B.C. for a brief Gary subplot. Of course Gary survived lol.

Knocked Down, Knocked Up loses points a little for Nate's lowkey exit even though this season was heavily hinting at his departure but everything else was spot on though. Like I said earlier in the review, I'd be genuinely surprised if the CW don't renew this show for at least one more season, especially given that they've finally added Booster Gold into the mix.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 7x12: "Too Legit To Quit"

Gideon (to the Legends): "We are all retiring."

Okay, while I'm definitely certain that any day now the CW are going to confirm this show for an eighth season, this episode very much felt like the beginning of the end for the Legends. Or more likely a false ending as Evil Gideon really cannot be trusted at all.

Anyways the Legends had to use Evil Gideon's services in order to save the Good Gideon and as a result, the latter made a deal with her bad self. The Legends would retire and live out their lives away from one another while both Gideons would keep an eye on the timeline instead. Of course, Evil Gideon wouldn't be satisfied with that.

With Gary being somewhat of a hindrance, it wasn't too much of a shocker that he'd get ejected into the time stream while our Gideon had made her own reckless decisions in order to prevent the Legends from reneging on the deal they had made with Evil Gideon. However neither had banked on sparking a new determination in Gwyn to save his lover.

I knew it was a little too good to be true when Gideon stopped Ava and Zari's plans to rescue Alun (Tom Forbes) and when Gwyn realised that he was an android, it was obvious what was going to happen next. Given that Alun's death has been revealed to be a fixed point, it's hard to tell what will happen with Gwyn after next week's finale. Will he accept that fate cannot be changed or perhaps have his own changed for the worst? 

As for the futures in questions, we certainly got some interesting things to ponder. Shippers must have been happy with Sara and Ava winding up with a daughter and they themselves seemed excited by the prospects. Personally I would've liked Ava to have had her own Only Murders In The Building style podcast but this kind of works too.

Of course with Nate penning a book, Behrad becoming a children's entertainer, Astra for president, Spooner setting up a mental health centre with her mother and Gwyn getting a cottage in Wales, Zari found herself less satisfied with her prospective fate. It also influenced her decision to save Alun and there was a lovely scene between both her and Nate on the nature of heroism.

- We just got the title card for this episode as well as a lot of references to past characters on this show. 

- Astra's impression of Spooner was pretty funny, even if the real,one nearly got sent out of the airlock by Evil Gideon.

- While this episode talked about audible lips in Zari's future, we also had three kissing scenes in this one. Sara/Ava, Behrad/Astra and Gwyn/Alun.

- Chronology: From where the previous episode left off. Gideon visited 1916 offscreen during her initial attempt to rescue Alun.

Too Legit To Quit under different circumstances definitely could've been the groundwork for a series finale but given that this show's very likely coming back for another and Evil Gideon might not be totally honest in what she was showing, I think it's safe to say that Legends and retirement won't be going hand in hand just yet. A good thing as I'm not ready for this show to end either.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 7x11: "Rage Against The Machines"

Zari (re Android Legends): "We really are our own worst enemies."

As we head into the final stretch, it was time for the Legends and their Android doubles to meet up and boy, did this episode have fun with that idea. Possibly too much fun with it, but that's no bad thing. This episode had so much in it's favour.

I have to give Nick Zano a shoutout for his comedic timing because he had clearly had way too much fun in playing up Android Nate's toxicity and capped with an Arnold Schwarzenegger accent made the character's scenes even more priceless. It also made the character's final fate more interesting as a certain promise that Sara made Thawne was nicely capped off as well.

Sara had hoped that she could reason with the Android Legends but them killing Thawne and even her put Gwyn in a leadership role that he excelled at. It was fantastic to see the character in his element, using his military knowledge to bring about the downfall of the Android Legends. After this episode, I'm starting to think that Gwyn might be sticking around after all.

Watching the team working together to take out the other Legends was fantastic. Spooner turned her double and Gary in each other, Gary sent the Ava and Astra doubles into hell after Behrad gave them a lethal dose while Astra killed the Behrad double as did Zari with her double and Gideon tricked the Sars and Nate ones into their own destructions. Then another fate befall Android Nate.

However while it seemed like things were working out for the Legends, something had to go wrong. Ending the episode had Gideon stabbed by a toasted Android Astra and this was only moments after the real one said she was proud of Gideon. I guess we did need that cliff hanger moment as the show took a break for the Winter Olympics.

However now that the Legends have control of the other Waverider, there's the problem of the other Gideon. The trailer for the next episode made it clear that Zari's pulling the plug didn't have the desired effect. With two episodes left to go, how do you solve the problem of an evil AI?

- With Jes Macallan on directing duty for this one, it made sense that the episode sidelined Ava for most of it.

- The Legends using the singing fish, Star Wars spoilers, VRs and tablets to smoke out their doubles was highly amusing.

- Is this Thawne really dead? At least he went on a heroic note.

- Chronology: Still 1914 Sarajevo for this episode.

Rage Against The Machines did a great job in tying up the fixed point storyline and certainly gave most of the main cast a perfect chance to shine against their Android doubles. With two episodes left, I cant wait to see how this season will finish up and hopefully news on a next season renewal will happen this month.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 7x10: "The Fixed Point"

Sara: "Get ready Legends because this time, there are no do overs."

We are near the final stretch of episodes and after last week's bombshell where Gideon gave Gwyn's suggestion of saving Archduke Franz Ferdinand and preventing World War 1 some serious thought, this episode quickly turned the idea on it's head.

Instead of the Legends trying to break a fixed point in time, they'd use it to smoke out Evil Gideon and the Android Legends and get the other Waverider. A delightfully cunning idea that could've gone without a hitch but then this episode would've been only five minutes long. Of course there was a hitch and then some.

The first hitch being the Legends getting roped into a time traveller's bar where they were the laughing stock among their peers while also waiting in line to try and prevent Ferdinand's assassination. This also resulted in Sara getting killed multiple times as the gang realised that a mystery man was there, derailing their attempts.

Had the promo pics and press releases for this episode and the next one not spoiled things, the return of Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash would've been a genuine surprise. Either way, it's nice to see the character again and it's even better that it's the Matt Letscher version of the character too. On a surprising note, Thawne's purpose for this episode was to make sure the fixed point remained intact and he was more grudging ally than dangerous foe for Sara and the Legends this week.

Now with the Legends in a prime position to reclaim the Waverider, what else happened in this episode? Oh, there was the rather understated manner in which Spooner came out as asexual to Zari as the two of them became friends this week. That was a lovely little moment in this episode and one that proved yet again, why this show has been the best for LGBT representation.

Speaking of LGBT representation, I never loved Ava Sharpe more than I did in this episode. With both her and Gwyn mostly sidelined in this one from the main story, there was a beautiful moment between them here. Gwyn's plan to save Alun but to deny himself happiness with the latter was heart-breaking and I loved that Ava seemed to have gotten through to him.

As for the other romances of the episode, both Astra and Behrad seem to be in the early days of their romance while Gideon went from self doubt about her knowledge of time to being elated about Thawne's arrival and being openly affectionate with Gary. As for Nate, we did learn that art was not a talent of his while he was also a great support for Sara.

- The credit sequence came back to normal for this episode after the last two doing something different with them.

- Zari's "smash, marry, avoid" game was a good catalyst to have Spooner open up about her feelings. 

- This episode had way too much with the amount of ways that Sara got killed this week.

- Chronology: June 28th 1914, Sarajevo.

The Fixed Point was another triumph for Maisie Richardson-Sellers on the directing front and on the front of everything else, this has become one of my favourite episodes of this season. Brilliant character moments, a welcomed baddie return. Everything about this one was a winner.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 7x09: "Lowest Common Demoninator"

Astra (to the Legends): "We are on a reality show in Hell."

Following last week's focus on the Android version of the Legends, this week saw the return of our guys, who thanks to Gideon landed in the pocket dimension of Constantine's manor in Hell. Could've been and of course, it means the gang would have the opportunity to come up with a strategy against Evil Gideon.

Except for the fact that Gwyn opened a door in the manor and let inside the cursed crew who sold their souls to a demon named Harris Ledes (Giles Panton) in order to make a hit reality show. Yup, the Legends have found themselves living out a reality TV series and all the tropes that came with it.

To cap off things, you had Nate and Zari 2 almost fall into 'friends to lovers' trope before both of them fell out over their own feelings about Zari 1 while a self doubting Gideon switched off her emotions to stir the pot among the feuding housemates. Gideon being a massive contrast to a very overly emotional Gary, who also made things worse for the Legends.

Then there was Sara and Ava with the former more fixated on planning a vacation than trying to get out of reality show hell while the latter grew tired of being the den mother of the gang and snapped. Meanwhile Spooner took Survivor a little too much or heart and Gwyn went from wanting to save Alun to wanting to prevent World War 1 altogether.

As for Astra, she had a plan to get Ledes to pull the show but Behrad's snooping just put them in the periphery of things instead. However it was also Behrad opening up about his own past experience and a commentary on being a stoner and chill dude that basically resolved this plot. As someone who found Behrad a weak character last season, I really like how much he's improved as a character this season. 

As for the potential romance between Astra and Behrad, I think the former has more chemistry with Spooner but I don't mind the pairing either. Both of them were the only ones who were more savvy about the main plot of the week and I do think the actors play off each other rather well. Likewise the same with Gideon and Gary and how the latter also castigated the Legends for being judgmental about their blossoming romance.

- The premise of this episode was set in Constantine's manor. There's a Hellblazer comic with this very premise and the title sequence were very Constantine themed. He was also mentioned in the episode. That's it really.

- Harris Ledes production company was named after the title of the episode. 

- Gwyn's constant praying throughout the episode being censored was funny as well as Nate's Jersey Shore look.

- Chronology: From where the mid season finale left off for the Legends.

Lowest Common Demoninator definitely and shamelessly went overboard with the reality TV tropes but only this show could've pulled this episode off with aplomb. Add some genuinely funny scenes with the main characters and development for both Behrad and Astra and this was a winner for me.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 7x08: "Paranoid Android"

Android Sara: "We are the real Legends Of Tomorrow."

Well, this was certainly an episode to come back to after nearly a two month break. I knew there was potential in Evil Gideon coming up with her own Android version of the Legends and this episode really scratched the surface of that concept. 

Having our Android version of the Legends firmly believe they're the good guys made absolute sense and of course would make Evil Gideon's plan seem just that bit more nefarious. However it shouldn't be a surprise that Doctor Sharpe would be the one enabling Evil Gideon's scheme and it was less surprising that Android Sara would be the one to suspect that things weren't quite as they appeared.

Watching the cast play somewhat exaggerated versions of themselves as Androids who didn't know they were for most of the episode was entertaining as hell. Although they're slightly better at cleaning up the timeline as the real Legends as Evil Gideon got them to fix up the mess that Gwyn caused with Chernobyl from two episodes ago.

So let's talk about the Android team shall we? There's Nate who seemed to have gotten Mick's old personality and seriously looked roided up to the hilt when he wasn't belittling the completely alien and always hungry Gary. Then there was Behrad and Spooner who for some reason seem to be locked in a permanent game of trying to up the other, which was also funny.

The Android version of Astra didn't feel that different or exaggerated from the version we already know while Android Zari was both the cause of Sara realising the truth and her eventual downfall. Not to mention the more antagonistic dynamic between Sara and Doctor Sharpe, which was definitely the highlight of the episode.

Unfortunately with Android Sara posing a potential threat to Evil Gideon's overall plans, it was up to the rest of the Android Legends to relieve her of command, regress her into only being an assassin and for Citizen Steel to take charge of the Waverider. Yup, this will definitely be fun to watch play out for the remaining five episodes of the season.

- The actual Legends themselves were confined to a scene from the previous episode as seen by the Android versions perspective. Gwyn for now does not have an Android double.

- The Android Legends got their own title sequence and Citizen Steel got a bullying ad where kids compared him to John Cena. That was timely considering that Peacemaker premiered today.

-  Even this episode seemed to be hinting at a future Behrad and Astra hook up while Spooner referred to the latter as her best friend.

- Chronology: 1943 Seattle, 1986 Ukraine and 1992 Norway for the Legends to assassinate a surviving Soviet scientist.

Paranoid Android definitely had far too much fun in parking our main heroes and giving us the spin off within a show with their Android versions. I had so much fun with these characters that I actually didn't miss any of the main players this week.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 7x07: "A Woman's Place Is In The War Effort"

Evil Sara (to her crew): "Those Legends might have gotten away this time but those suckers will pay."

In terms of most predictable thing that Evil Gideon could've done, having her own clone/likely android evil version of the Legends was completely expected. Not a criticism though because this will make the second half of this season a lot of fun when it returns in January.

This episode didn't exactly show us Evil Gideon but thanks to Bishop imposing on the Legends, they're aware she's a looming threat. Also with Gwyn's time machine on the crapper for the second episode on a row, this episode made a clear stance on where Bishop's loyalties were. Did he want to be a better man pr would his ego consume him again? Mostly the former, though it took a while to get there.

Bishop a good portion of the episode being a teachable moment for Nate as the latter allowed Behrad and Zari 2.0 to teach him about Persian culture, specifically taarof, which I found to be quite the eye opener as well. Needless to say that Bishop tested everyone's patience until he also stepped up and find a clever way to get Gideon to control Gwyn's machine, which worked.

Of course with Bishop actually helping the Legends escape Evil Gideon's latest attack, he also became a casualty. I had a feeling if the show redeemed Bishop, he'd get a heroic sacrifice but I assumed it would've been later in the season. I guess doing it here was probably for the best though. Bishop, you were mostly a pain in the backside but at least you came good here.

As for the main adventure this week, in a bid to get parts for the time machine, the ladies found themselves working at a factory that made planes, ran by the rather racist and sexist, Mr E. Staples, who took a venomous exception to Astra in particular. This episode was also something of a teachable moment for Astra and arguably Olivia Swann's best moment to date.

Astra didnt like having to deal with the attitudes of the time and her anger did result in Staples being frozen for most of the episode. I liked the changes that Astra made to the factory, even if they attracted Evil Gideon's attention. I also thought her scenes with older factory worker Gladys were wonderful to watch as well. Gladys definitely should come back for another episode.

- Ava was hilariously inept on the factory line, compared to Sara. It wasn't exactly subtle but I Love Lucy nod was cute. She also let slip to Gwyn about World War II.

- Gideon thinks Gary has a nice backside, which even Behrad agreed with. I'm also wondering if the writers are setting up a potential romance between Behrad and Astra. Zari 2.0 also thought Gwyn looked like John.

- We got a brief appearance from Eleanor Roosevelt in this episode.

- Chronology: 1943 for all of this episode. 

A Woman's Place Is In The War Effort did a fantastic job looking into the Rosies, especially with  Astra leading the mission this week. Along with Bishop's sacrifice and some evil Legends, I'm looking forward to what the second half of the season will bring.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 7x06: "Deus Ex Latrina"

Bishop (to Evil Gideon): "Dignity is overrated."

Well, this episode definitely happened and woah, boy, I did not see at least two things coming and the other, I was happy to have confirmed. Yup, this season definitely has shaped up to be one of the best we've had.

First of all, let's talk about the last thing first. I didn't want to get my hopes up that Gwyn Davies might be a gay character on the show but this episode pretty confirmed that he was. Last season we saw Matt Ryan and Tala Ashe portraying a couple with John Constantine and Zari Tarazi and while I wasn't a fan of that pairing, there's no denying the two of them play off each other so well.

In this episode, both Zari Tomaz and Behrad were tasked with helping Gwyn to find parts to fix the time machine. Gwhn was largely despondent and had little patience for either Behrad or Zari until the latter got him to open up about his past. Then when Zari and Gwyn got captured by Russian soldiers, Gwyn really opened up about his past.

Having Gwyn talk about his World War I days along with a clear love he had for Alun really solidified how much of an asset Matt Ryan has been to the show. The guy has incredible range and Gwyn went through the gamut of panic attacks, reliving trauma, hopelessness to a tiny bit of determination when Zari and Behrad helped in changing some history in regards to the outcome of Chernobyl. 

It took longer than usual for the episode to reveal where the Legends had landed but once the time machine was fixed and they managed to escape the other Waverider, there was a stowaway on top of the machine, strapped to a toilet. Who else but Bishop?

Now this was where the episode really took a wild turn. I already mentioned three weeks ago about not being keen on Bishop being back. I didn't want him as a villain for two seasons in a row and thankfully this show had another idea with Bishop. He's not the villain this season, it's the corrupted Gideon. Also going by what was revealed, he technically wasn't even last season's villain, it was his robot clone. 

Bishop started the episode hating the Legends and wanting them dead. He blew up their Waverider and has been responsible for the Hoover bots. Upon realising that the Legends tried to help him and Gideon 2.0 killing his favourite Ava clone, he soon change tack. The question remains - will the Legends actually trust him and are they enough to stop Gideon 2.0? More than likely I suppose.

- Gary and Gideon hooked up in this episode, which did shock me. Nate also agreed to love in the totem with Zari, so it's looking likely he will be leaving this season.

- Behrad apparently reminded Gwyn of Alun before the two of them went to war. Spooner and Astra also separated Sara and Ava for a brief time in this episode.

- The title came from the one room on the other Waverider that Gideon 2.0 didn't access to - the bathroom.

- Chronology: April 1986, Chernobyl as well as a few 1925 flashbacks here and there.

Deus Ex Latrina might have one of the most tasteless titles for an episode but this was definitely a gem though. It turned things around on who the actual villain of the season would be and Gwyn's backstory was beautifully handled as well. This season has definitely gotten it's groove back. Even the Gary and Gideon subplot was kind of sweet.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 7x05: "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Scientist"

Gwyn (re the Legends): "How many bloody time travelers are there?"

Um, a lot more than the group of people who have crash landed into your life, Gwyn. For a man who made his life work in relation to time travel, he certainly took some convincing to get on board with actually doing it.

There's no denying that Matt Ryan has made a profound impact during the time on the show as John Constantine and he's now the third regular actor to be put in the position of playing a brand new character and making them stand out as much as the character they started the show with. Gwyn Davies definitely feels like a different character to John Constantine and that's a good thing.

He's initially standoffish, nervous, prone to panic attacks and his attempts of mastering time travel are enough to get him sectioned, courtesy of Thomas Edison. Of course, with Sara's knack for getting out of tight spots and her heartfelt plea about possibly losing Ava forever, Gwyn seemed moved enough to help the Legends with using his machine to get out of 1925.

The other problem being was that for the last few episodes we were told that Davies experiment would result in killing both him and the Legends. It was up to Astra, Spooner and Gideon to prevent that from happening. The amount of roadblocks that prevented them from going to New York certainly became comical. Fortunately a 'lucky' rock and Gideon's own motor skills managed to prevent disaster. Okay, perhaps Astra causing a blackout might have helped too.

With Gwyn and the Legends not being killed and a rogue Waverider out to kill them, the episode did end with at least getting them out of 1925. However I'm not sure that was entirely the best thing as they all seemed to end up somewhere else not helpful altogether. I hope for their sake that new time machine hasn't crapped out already. 

As for the rest of the episode, yup messing around with Gwyn's stuff did write both Ava and Gary briefly out of history. We also had Nate and Zari navigate the possibility of living together in either the manor or the totem while causing the Hoover bot to malfunction royally and accidentally kill Edison. It's been only five episodes and two historical figures have been killed and replaced with androids. Who else are the Legends gonna bump off?

- Sara thought Gwyn looked like Stein, Gary thought Mick with hair and Zari thought Ray. Behrad just felt like he knew Gwyn.

- Gwyn has lost a person he wants to get back and seemed intrigued that Sara had a wife. It's nice the show are letting Matt Ryan use his own accent for this character.

- Edison wasn't the only history figure in this episode. Astra, Spooner and Gideon also met race car driver, Erwin George Baker.

- Chronology: November 7th 1925 in New York.

It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Scientist was a strong introduction for Gwyn Davies as a character, though a part of me wonders if he might be a short lived regular for the show. Outside of this initial plot and the likelihood of the Legends keeping up their side of the bargain, I'm not sure if he'll remain beyond this season, though I'm happy to proven wrong.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 7x04: "Speakeasy Does It"

Ava (re Bullet Blondes): "We're not sisters."

After that performance, Ava, no one in 1925 will ever make the mistake of thinking you and Sara are siblings. Ever. This episode might have done very little to advance the plot, but it more than made up for it with character moments and then some.

Hightailing it to Chicago and trying to avoid Terminator Hoover (unsuccessfully, of course), the majority of the Legends found themselves holed up at a speakeasy with a kind owner named Eddie (Hamza Fouad). Unfortunately their attempts to improve his business and make money to get to New York resulted in Eddie losing his bar, thanks to meanie gangster, Ross Bottini (Sage Brocklebank).

This episode was where Zari 2 was her best. Having half to deal with a racist wig owner earlier in the episode, she got the Legends into helping Eddie raise funds to buy his own speakeasy by using Hell Manor for a one night only Bullet Blondes performance. The night went down well, Eddie got his money, Zari 2 formed a lovely connection and was totally in her element and the gang got enough money to go to New York and capture Hoover. In fact everything went a little too swimmingly.

In the midst of all this though, we had one of the most revealing exchanges between Nate and Gary on their relationship issues. Gary was right to point out the dynamic Nate has had with both Amaya and Zari 1 while Nate quickly realised that Gary liked being bossed around by powerful people. I'd be surprised if the show actually paired Gary with Zari 2 and would prefer if they didn't but at the same time, it's time we actually saw Gary get a love interest, even if it's just for a little while.

As for the B-team, they also managed to make their way to Chicago but narrowly missed reuniting with the rest of the gang. Saying that though, the subplot that Astra, Spooner and Gideon did have was pretty good stuff that also tied in the Bottini character, specifically his singer girlfriend Maude (Aubrey Reynolds).

Astra hasn't always been the best with wanting to help others but here, I liked that she in a similar manner to Zari 2 went out of her way to help Maude with both Spooner and Gideon backing her up. These three characters have been a boy to watch together and the way they dealt with Bottini was brilliantly done. However it's time for all the Legends to unite and find Gwyn Davies.

- I'm pretty sure being bound and gagged wouldn't be enough to keep not Hoover restrained. I do like that Zari was brought out to get him to talk though.

- Spooner using her powers to get inside Bottini's head was excellent to see. Also this episode gave Gideon another chance to sing. 

- Why Gary of all people to be trusted with the key on a train to New York? Astra did manage to track Zari 2's phone by accident.

- Chronology: Chicago 1925, but it's New York from next week onwards.

Speakeasy Does It might not have hugely advanced the ongoing plot but in terms of sheer entertainment and character moments, I really enjoyed this one. Every one got something fun to do (even Behrad was on fine form jamming away). Four episodes in and this season could be a firm favourite for me.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 7x03: " wvrdr_error_100 not found"

Sara: "Welcome to the team, Gideon."

Welcome to the team? Ah, but Gideon has been there since the very first episode, outlived several Legends and if there a character truly deserving of the spotlight in this milestone episode, to would be her of course. The Legends are nothing without her.

Being newly human will be an adjustment for Gideon but with Astra and Spooner having her back, there's no doubt that she'll be fine. However for this episode, Gideon was mostly out for the count and to was up to Astra and Spooner to take a big trip down memory lane in order to bring Gideon around.

We've done the playing around in a character's subconscious thong before but in Gideon's mind, we got a Brit speaking Jax to guide Astra and Spooner around and see some old faces again. I could focus on the characters who didn't appear in this episode a bit later but the ones who did re-emerge were largely welcomed, except one of course.

It was a delight not only to see Jax again but also Captain Cold, Ray Palmer, Martin Stein, Rip Hunter, Nora Darhk and Hawkman, who out of all the returns was by far the most surprising of the bunch. These memories served as means of reminding audiences just how much he show has evolved over the course of seven seasons but also a re,under that there's still work to be done.

Gideon had to battle a corrupted version of herself to come out the other side and needless to say her various speeches about what the Legends mean to her had the desired effect here. Amy Louise Pemberton absolutely owned this episode and there was something truly heartwarming about seeing the Legends guide her humanity. Even if that also included a bit of pie theft.

On the downside, Bishop has also resurfaced. The younger version, about to become psychotic and with a version of Gideon to himself, it looks like he might be the one responsible for the Legends current predicament. I'm not keen on the character being trotted out as a villain for a second season in a row. Hopefully there's another one on the horizon too.

- The title sequence took in all the past title sequences, which was a lovely nod to things.

- Characters who didn't appear were Kendra, Mick, Amaya, Wally, Constantine, Charlie, Mona, though I think we saw some archive footage with some of them and both Constantine and Mick were directly mentioned.

-  I do think the WB could've dropped their contradicting rule and let Mart Ryan briefly appear as Constantine or debuted Gwyn Davies here, but it's a minor nitpick for me.

- Chronology: Yip, still 1925, Odessa, Texas. At east we're getting out of Texas though. 

wvrdr_error_100 not found would definitely win an award for one of the weirdest titles but for a show as weird as this, it would be apt. As 100th episodes go, this was brilliant. A beautiful love letter to the show's past, present and future and Caity Lotz did an excellent directing job too. I'm really glad this show was able to accomplish this milestone and celebrate it in style.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 7x02: "The Need For Speed"

Nate (to a mobster): "Repeat after me: I forgive myself."

I have to admit, initially the title of this episode did make me think more about speedsters, but in reality, it was about consequences. The consequences of J. Edgar Hoover removed from the timeline and Nate going into overdrive to make things right.

Boarding the train to New York to keep up with history and using a spell from Gary, Nate spent most of this episode looking like Hoover while Behrad made his feelings about the guy a bit too known at times. Sidenote: I'm glad Behrad was sober for most of this episode. Now give him something meaningful to do and we're good.

As for Nate he mostly fooled people and even solved his (well, Hoover's) own kidnap attempt while also dealing with Al Capone's mobsters and a robot version of Hoover who also managed to disrupt proceedings in this episode. Are we going to keep getting robot versions of this guy until we get to New York?

Speaking of New York, this episode ended with both Astra and Spooner realising they needed to get to Gwyn Davies before the Legends ended up dead. Gideon spent most of this episode being unable to communicate with Astra and Spooner and Astra spent most of it being impatient with Gideon and feeling sorry for herself, which did grate a bit.

Gloria on the other hand tried her best to get both Astra and Spooner to try with Gideon and eventually her advice paid off when Spooner was able to read Gideon's thoughts. I've really come to like Gloria in the last four episodes she's been in so hopefully we'll see more of her, even after Astra, Spooner and Gideon head to New York.

As for Zari, she spent a good portion of the episode high on her brother's gummy bears but at least shew as able to turn things around and come up with an impressive list of potential suspects for blowing up the Waverider. In a lot of ways, this felt like a nice reminder of the show's past and a single set up for next week's 100th episode.  As for Sara and Ava, they were mostly in honeymoon mode this week.

- I love the new title sequence for this season and we even got to see Gwyn Davies in it. I'm assuming we'll see him after the 100th episode though.

-  Ava's safe word was both boring and in character for her. She did seem mortified that Zari picked up on it though. 

- The title referred to a nickname that Hoover had as well.

- Chronology: Late October 1925 in Odessa, Texas. The gang have to meet Gwyn Davies by November 7th.

The Need For Speed was certainly breezy episode with everything more or less working. I feel like we're  killing time until the show gets to New York but Nate had some great moments as did Astra, Spooner and Gideon. Now on to the 100th episode.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 7x01: "The Bullet Blondes"

Sara: "No Time Courier, no Waverider. We're stuck in 1925."

Remember that when classic Doctor Who when entering it's seventh season decided to make things a little Earthbound and even as far as last year when Agents Of SHIELD seventh season sort of did the same thing. Well, Legends Of Tomorrow now in their seventh season are going for a similar idea, funnily enough.

Following the events of the previous finale (which aired last month, boy, is this show back quickly or what?), the Waverider has blown up and the gang are stuck in 1925. Their attempts to get home have predictably failed and their antics have also attracted not only local attention but also that of a certain J. Edgar Hoover (Giacomo Baessato) to boot.

By now, this show has taught us that when the Legends mess up, they do it royally and even when things look like they could turn out fine, something disastrous will derail it. On the other hand, things usually do resolve themselves as well. However they're off to a bad start, thanks to Nate inadvertently causing Hoover's death and Gary having to eat up the body.

Killing off a famous history figure while on the way to New York to seek out one scientist named Gwyn Davies (Matt Ryan) - who we didn't get to see here. I really do hope that Sara, Ava, Nate, Gary and Behrad do bump off anyone else along the way. Ava did kind of grate with going on about not leaving footprints before her true crime obsessive persona came into play and Gary got to feast on human flesh.

As for Spooner, she naturally didn't want the Legends drawing further attention to her mother and they understood that for the most part. Gloria has been a good recurring addition to the series and she had some sensible advice for Astra, in regards to the latter working away from Constantine and finding her own identity as a magical practitioner. Astra might have failed to revive the Waverider but she did manage to make a human version of Gideon, so that's going to be interesting for the rest of this season.

Meanwhile Zari whilst in her element making circus costumes for the gang and snarky remarks about the time couriers also was brooding over John leaving her. I'm actually glad this episode immediately showed us what that key was and for the time being, Zari has a picket dimension to mull things over before the gang finally get help in returning to their ship.

- We just got a very generic title card. Hopefully that changes once they introduce Gwyn into the mix. 

- The title comes from the robbery gang that Behrad had to choose on the spot. Behrad had some decent moments in this episode.

- I am definitely convinced this show might go down the romantic route with Astra and Spooner and I actually hope it does.

- Chronology: 1925, Odessa but we're heading to New York now.

The Bullet Blondes is a strong opening episode and while I'm not entirely keen on the Legends being stuck in one particular time for the whole season (or likely most of it), this change of pace has potential so far. Why did that other Waverider strand the Legends in 1925 and how much help will both a human Gideon and Gwyn actually be to the gang?

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 6x15: "The Fungus Amongus"

Ava (to everyone): "I'm kinda nervous. Things rarely wrap up in a neat little bow for us."

Oh Ava, you definitely shouldn't have jinxed yourself and the crew there. Not that she was wrong though. Things were going too well for the Legends that something had to go wrong. Being stranded in 1925 because another Waverider blew up the first one will definitely be something to get used to for next season.

Concentrating on this season though, the previous episode made it appear that three members were taken out of the equation, only for all three to live another day. Mick actually survived Bishop's planned little explosion and proved to Kayla that he wanted to step for their kids. He got some nice moments with Sara but his exit was signposted for long enough and after six seasons, this felt like a good exit for the character.

Then there was Spooner herself. She looked like she was about to die but the Legends having the idea of getting a younger version of Bishop to hear cure Spooner and reconnect her with the Fountain actually worked. Looks like we've got Spooner for another season. As for younger Bishop - the reaction to his older self was priceless.

As a villain, Bishop started off okay but got better towards the end. His plan to use the Zagarons to get rid of everyone so only him and Sara could live almost worked until Constantine's parting gift of getting the Legends to connect with one another in order to take out the invading aliens. Bishop also ending up as food for Mick and Kayla's 48 kids was definitely his just desserts.

As for Constantine, it's been quite the adventure but he's alive and somewhat redeemed. While we're probably unlikely to see Matt Ryan play the character in live action for a while (definitely think he'll still voice the role in animated projects), this served as a decent exit for the character. He got a scene each with Sara and Zari but also accepted that his time with the Legends had come to an end. He'll be missed but at least Matt Ryan will have a new character to play next season.

Last but not least, it was a wedding for Sara and Ava before and during the threat of the word ending. I've never been the biggest shipper but it's been interesting to see their relationship evolve over the last four years and this wedding was nicely done. Now that they're married and a certain pairing has thankfully ended with a character departure, I do wonder who will be the next couple on the show.

- I think this was the first season where Sara didn't get to wear her White Canary attire, though Nate did briefly steel up and Spooner helped the gang swap abilities at different points during the battle.

- I might be reading into it way too much but even I'm starting to wonder Astra has a thing for Spooner.

- Standout music: Behrad's version of Songbird was rather sweet. 

- Chronology: We're gonna be stuck in 1925 for the foreseeable. Season 7 also premieres from October 13th.

The Fungus Amongus might have borrowed a trick from a previous finale and may not have have had anything as crazy as a battle during a Sisqo song but this was a good way of ending a season that hasn't been the series at it's best. With next season being grounded and a landmark episode approaching, I'll look forward to seeing what happens next with this lot.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 6x14: "There Will Be Brood"

Constantine (re Fountain of Imperium): "I killed it. I killed it, Astra."

Well, this went to shit pretty fast, didn't it? Mick, Spooner and Constantine all looked like they were taken out of the equation but given what we know about next week's finale and next season, things aren't so crystal clear here.

If Mick hypothetically had to die then I guess saving one of his spawn from a bomb courtesy of Bishop would've been a noble way to go but we're not done with the character just yet. After all even the trailer couldn't keep up the pretence.

Then there's Spooner herself. Throw anyone into a situation where they can save their mother from being murdered and of course, they'll do it. Spooner knew there would be consequences to changing her own personal history but did it regardless. However again, the trailer for next week revealed her fate.

Spooner's scenes with her younger self and her mother were genuinely effective and it's good that the show has solved the mystery of what actually happened to her. It was also nice to see Astra step up as a friend to Spooner as well, given her own experiences with losing a mother.

As for the Constantine and Bishop pairing, was it really that shocking that the tw would try and backstab one another? Sadly for John, Bishop was just that bit more clever so his newly regained powers also came with a death sentence for Constantine.

I'm really not sure how I feel about Constantine being killed off like this or if it will even stick. If it doesn't then guilt for betraying the Legends will likely force his hand to leave. However I do think his death will ultimately stick. 

As for the rest of the Legends, they were largely trapped in John's house until Gary had the novel idea of using alien social media to get Kayla to help. Other than that, this episode largely belonged to John, Astra, Spooner and Bishop. The latter now having cmplete his mission to destroy the Fountain and leave Earth vulnerable for his own schemes.

- Mick admitted his feelings for Kayla and she did not seem to be opposed by them.

- Was there any point to John/Zari 2 pairing this season? I do feel that plot should've been scrapped last season as it added nothing overall to his downward spiral.

- Maisie Richardson-Sellers did an excellent directing job here. I do miss Charlie.

- Chronology: 1925 Odessa, Texas, where Spooner is really from. 

There Will Be Brood excelled in the emotional moments with Spooner and her mother, Astra and John but I'm not sure how I feel about the latter being killed off. I hope the finale can end this season on a strong note.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 6x13: "Silence Of The Sonograms"

Bishop: "You know when you fight yourself, you're destined to lose."

Sara: "Destiny's so last season."

As we head towards the end of this season, Bishop has finally come back just so that he could be a gigantic pain in the backside to the Legends. He might also want to be a big more strategic and play them off each other as well to a certain point. 

Bishop started well enough with Sara and Ava, feigning loneliness and using the latter's own hangups about being a clone while helping to organise her wedding. As someone who isn't always the biggest fan of Ava, this was actually a pretty great episode for the character.

Then there was fighting with Sara and anticipating her every move. That's what happens when you have 6% of someone who you previously kidnapped at the start of the season. However the physical sparring between Sara and Bishop was pretty cool to watch though.

Of course it wasn't just the happy couple that Bishop targeted this episode. He managed to trick them into inducing Mick's labour and while on any other show with a similar plot, Bishop would've went after the 48 babies, Bishop set his goal a little higher.

The object Bishop's goal was of course Constantine, who absolutely gave into his worst impulses by the end of this one. Zari did her damnedest to get Constantine back on track and it almost worked but his days are numbered on this show and I really don't see a good ending in sight for John.

Now why Bishop needs Constantine, I'm not sure, but as we head into the last two episodes, it'll be interesting to see how he's ultimately defeated as a baddie. This episode alone did more to make Bishop a credible threat than the first half of the season did.

- Did Behrad just skip this episode? Oh wait, he did as he's gone to see his parents. 

- The show let Constantine smoke, almost to really drive home the fact that he's gone to the dark side now. Astra also fixed Spooner's missing memory from John.

- Standout music: Lou Reed's Perfect Day during those scenes with Ava and Bishop.

- Chronology: Exactly from where the previous episode left off.

Silence Of The Sonograms certainly delivered both with Mick giving birth nasally with his kids and everything concerning both Bishop and Constantine. Definitely hopeful for these last two episodes sticking the landing with this arc.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 6x12: "Bored On Board Onboard"

Beast (to Constantine): "You love this world. You love the power. You love me."

Of a list of things that Legends Of Tomorrow must have to do, I'm sure that a mystery murder was on that list. Thanks to this episode, it can now be crossed off.

With Gideon taking longer to get the Waverider back to Earth, Gary's suggestion of Beast Slayers suddenly became more appealing to a bored group of Legends and Constantine just had to up the ante by making the game all the more real.

Once the game took place outside of the ship and in John's home, it didn't take that long for each of the group to be bumped off with Ava, Nate and Sara being dispatched rather easily and then Astra and Spooner to also meet their fate at the hands of the Beast of the game.

The Beast bemg a darker version of Constantine made sense. His addiction has gotten worse and here he as puttng everyone's lives in danger, with only Behrad spotting that something was amiss while Zari 2 seemed n complete denial about.

However by the end of the episode just as Zari was about to profess her love for John, she realised that he was off the deep end. Going by the trailer for next week and with only three episodes left, things don't look good for John. I really do think he could be killed off.

As for Mick and Gary, well they spent a fair chunk of this episode reunited with Kayla. The latter not being too happy to see either of them before admitting that she was working with Bishop. After a four episode, Bishop's back to be a pain in the backside for the Legends as we finally get into the final part of the season.

- All the Legends were aptly given their respective roles in the game.

- I'm not surprised the male of Gary's species are subservient but Kayla did spare Mick's life and his new hairdo, so she must like him.

- It was nice to have the episode mention characters such as the Flash and Black Siren, even if Ava didn't want them at the wedding.

- Chronology: Present day, but something of a 1920's setting for the game.

Bored On Board Onboard definitely had a lot of fun with its main theme while also setting up Constantine's imminent exit. At this point, I'm convinced he's going to die and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Also with Bishop back in the fold, it'll be interesting to see how his story ends too.

My Review of Legends Of Tomorrow's 6x11: "The Final Frame"

Buddy (to the Legends): "It's great seeing folks having a good time in the bowling alley again. How about a team photo?"

I have to admit the trailer to this one kind of filled me with dread. After the brilliance of the previously dark episode with Constantine on his descent to doom, I didn't want something overly light. Fortunately this episode struck a decent balance.

Sara, Mick, Astra and Spooner found themselves transported to a space bowling alley where the owner, Buddy was a kind old man but not in control of what happened in his established. Nope, the control was at the hands of the Pin Killers and they're an awfully competitive bunch.

Led by Mike the Strike (Nicholas Bishop), these competitive aliens hold planets prisoner when the competition loses, meaning that Sara and company not had to win their bowling game against the Pin Killers but if they lost, the Earth was definitely doomed.

Fortunately both Sara and Spooner were excellent bowlers. Mick and Astra, not so much but to make this even more tense was Astra having to be the one to bring the Legends to victory. Needless to say, Astra did just that and there's no doubt we'll likely see the Pin Killers at a later date for a rematch.

As for the rest of the episode, Constantine had everyone believing his magic came back naturally. The only person not fooled was Buddy, who just had to tell us the audience that Constantine would die. Given that we know he's on the way out, character wise, I actually would not be surprised if he is killed off by the end of this season.

As for Nate and Zari 1, they had a camping adventure that involved an annoying couple named Jeff and Jamie while Gary kept Ava distracted with wedding dress antics and Behrad assisted with some spellcasting with John. Everyone somewhat got something to do this week.

- Third time Nicholas Bishop has appeared this season as an antagonist character. Just the show trolling or s it leading to something?

- Spooner and Mick had some nice scenes mulling over their respective pasts.

- Ava should figured out something was amiss when Gary kept adding to her wedding dress.

- Chronology: 2021 Kansas and Alaska for this episode.

The Final Frame was a solid directorial debut for Jes Macallan. The A plot in the bowling alley was a pleasant surprise and the B plot with Constantine's erratic behaviour and what its leading to also worked.

DC News: Batgirl Cast, Batfleck Back, Constantine Departs And More

Well, this has certainly been a busy DC month and with The Suicide Squad in European cinemas before the US, here's a rundown of what's been happening.

Leslie Grace has been cast as Batgirl for the upcoming HBO Max. Filming will begin in November. JK Simmons has been rumoured to be reprising his role as Commissioner Gordon.

Jason Momoa will be somewhat blond for Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom.

Those rumours of The Batman doing reshoots turned out to be false.

The Flash has moved filming to Glasgow and filming has been revealed of Ben Affleck's Batman.

Filming has nearly completed on Black Adam with Dwayne Johnson and Sarah Shahi having finished their scenes.

Shazam!: Fury Of The Gods is still currently filming.

Matt Ryan will remain as a regular on Legends Of Tomorrow. However John Constantine will be written out at the end of this season and Ryan will play a new character named Dr Gwyn Davies for the seventh season, which has started filming.

Victoria Cartegena will play Renee Montoya in the third season of Batwoman. It will be a different version of the character she played in Gotham.

The first season of Peacemaker will drop on HBO Max from January 16th, starting with the first three episodes.

Michael B. Jordan is currently developing a Val Zod Superman project for HBO Max.

Tobias Menzies has been cast as Sinestro for the Green Lantern series.

Winston Duke will voice the Dark Knight for the upcoming audio series, Batman Unburied.
