Sex And The City: HBO Max Orders Revival Series

 And Just Like That ..... the story continues.

Last month there were rumours that HBO Max had plans to revive Sex And The City for a limited series and last night, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon all took to social media to confirm that the show would be coming back for a 10 episode series, now titled And Just Like That for HBO Max as this upcoming series would focus on Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda in their 50s. As you have no doubt noticed by now, a certain someone is not returning.

Yup, it seems that Kim Cattral will not be reprising her role as Samantha Jones and already this is going to be a major obstacle for the limited series. I know Cattral doesn't get along with the rest of the ladies but it's a pity differences cannot be put aside for this likely one off event. I do wonder if this upcoming limited series can draw in potential new audiences or even the same impact the original series, which ran for six seasons between 1998 to 2004 on HBO as well as the two movies from 2008 and 2010. I feel Sex And The City is definitely a product of its time, but perhaps this revival an at least be more entertaining than it's big screen adventures were. However the lack of Samantha Jones doesn't work in its favour.

First Look: The Carrie Diaries

Sorry lads, just when you thought the Sex And The City franchise was finally dead, the CW had to go and get one of Candace Bushnell's books and make a series where the younger Carrie in the 1980s first moves to New York to start her journalism career with a host of not Miranda/Samantha/Charlotte's in the form of a few vapid airhead-y friends, a closeted gay guy and Freema Agyeman playing fashionista, Larissa, who from this trailer alone looks like the only character worth giving a fig about.

To be fair if you didn't know this was a prequel to Sex And The City, you'd basically think it was an 80s version of Gossip Girl  (not so coincidental as Josh Schwartz is one of the creators of this show along with Stephanie Savage). Anna Sophia Robb seems like she could be a decent take on Carrie but my advice when watching this is to keep your expectations low and you won't be that disappointed. Then again, maybe the CW just accidentally released a crap trailer and the show will be a gem. Somehow though, I doubt it. Still, I'll give it a few episodes before totally writing it off.

Top 40 TV Characters Part 1

I was meant to do this a while back but now seems like a good time to do this. Basically a list of forty of my favourite characters from 40 shows I watch. I'll try and keep this as varied as humanly possible.

36: Miranda Hobbs (Cynthia Nixon) - Sex And The City

One of those guilty pleasure shows I have watched and while I've always found the obsession in the media with Carrie to be borderline disturbing at times (she's the only character to have shown no character growth), I've always loved Miranda. That fun, cynical, non conventional lawyer was the best bloody thing on the show and surely, I cannot be the only one to think so?

37: Victor/Anthony Ceccoli (Enver Gjokaj) - Dollhouse

It was sort of hard picking a favourite from this series what with Topher's geekery not making him particularly endearing or Paul being flat out dull at times, so Victor seemed like the perfect male character on the show. It's also a good thing, considering that he actually managed to make it out of the show alive too. Oh, screw it, it was him and his relationship with Sierra that gave this show more emotional heart than anything involving Echo.

38: Vince Tyler (Craig Kelly) - Queer As Folk

I never took to either Stuart or Nathan and while there's a part of me that hated RTD's horrid way of having Vince ditching nice guy Cameron in favour of Stuart, Vince was probably the closest to a character on this show I could relate to. His enthusiasm for a certain show certainly matches/practically usurps mine and damn, I found him a lot more interested in Stuart.

39: Alice Pieszecki (Leisha Hailey) - The L Word

Easily the best character on the show and one of the few to also call Jenny out on her pretentious bullshit at times, Alice is the kind of quirky, loveable character that feels like a genuine person than an exaggerated caricature. While the majority of the characters on the show had their moments, Alice certainly managed to stand out the most with her snarky quips and biting observations around her.

40: Kim Daniels - Sugar Rush

Long before Skins treated viewers to the excellence of Naomily, Kim Daniels was certainly the young gay teenager than the likes of LJ and Tumblr exploded over. Despite the show only running two series, Kim's ups and downs with her crazy family, volatile best mate Sugar and her turbulent love life certainly made for fun viewing. She wasn't particularly a saint as a character but she was never unbelievable though.

Top TV Pairings Part 1

Okay, so I've decided to pick thirty shows I'm currently watching in various ways and picked some of my favourite pairings. A lot of the pairings are romantic, a few quasi-romantic or platonic. Hope you enjoy the first part of this.

K9 - Alistair Gryffen/June Turner

Falls into the category of a non romantic pairing but if this show actually goes from having a second season in development to a second season on the air, who knows? There's certainly a nice rapport between Department lady June Turner and now not so agoraphobic Professor Alistair Gryffen.

Sugar Rush - Kim Daniels/Saint

I've been watching repeats of the second season on 4Music (and I'll be doing some blogs relating to the series soon) and I realise that I really did love Kim and Saint as a couple. They certainly weren't perfect but they were interesting though and it's a shame the show was cut so shortly as well.

Carnivale - Ben Hawkins/Sofie Agnesh Bojakshiya

Something of an odd pairing this one, it's kind of a shame that the writers didn't explore them further but their scenes together on TV were quite good. I wish we had seen more between Ben and Sofie.

Sex And The City - Miranda Hobbes/Steve Brady

This show has always been a mixed bag with couples but somehow, the writers (if you ignore the subsequent movies in 2008/2010) got it right with Miranda and Steve. Great chemistry with the actors and far more believable than the Carrie/Big rubbish that's bogged the show down as well.

Modern Family - Phil Dunphy/Claire Dunphy

I know I should talk about this show a lot more than I do, so I'm adding Phil and Claire to this as well. A great couple, brilliant rapport between the respective actors portraying them but also rather believable as well, though this show excels with all the couples.

How Much Hankering For The 80's Can You Get?

Warning: This blog contains spoilers for the upcoming sequel to the Sex And The City movie. You've been warned.

- Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Big (Chris Noth) are happy newlyweds for a while. But at some point, Big loses a lot of money in the recession and CareBig (as I like to call them) are forced to move in with Charlotte and Harry. Big heads to the Middle East (hence, Morocco) to try to make enough money to support Carrie and her shoe habit.

Great, another show/movie on about the recession. I'm all for realism and it would be better than the shameless product placement of the first movie, that's for sure. Big moving to the Middle East, come on. Surely Carrie can wean off the Blahniks just a tad.

- Us Weekly found a casting notice which read, “Big takes a job in London, living alone in a one-bedroom apartment. Big gets really low and ends up in bed with another woman. After she leaves him, Carrie discovers she is pregnant.” Oh geez, can you imagine Carrie as a single mother? And why can’t Big stop f**king everything up?! [Us Weekly via Celebuzz]

Carrie pregnant does seeem like a next step to me. Her and Big seperated again is less thrilling. Actually I've never been a big Carrie/Big fan anyway but the writers certainly do take the 'will they-won't they' thing too far nowadays with most TV couplings.

- As you may have figured from the ugh-tastic ‘80s stylings that were revealed this week, there will be a flashback to when the girls first met! A little awkward now that they’re all older, but can’t wait to see how they wrote that scene!

This could be the funniest moment of the movie. We know that they only became friends with each other later in life, so it would be nice to see how that all originated from.

- A British paper zoomed in on Kim Cattrall‘s script and figured out that Smith Jerrod (i.e., Jason Lewis, the Absolute Hunk) is back in the picture. But Samantha Jones will also lust after British actor Max Ryan, who plays a sexy architect. Samantha will allegedly be poppin’ hormone pills since she’s well into her 50s now, but she’s still got an enviable body for any age. [NY Daily News]

Sam and her toyboy back together? Ah, why not! The hormome pill plot is likely to be played for laughs and seriousness as well.

- Charlotte York-Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) apparently struggles with raising her children and accuses her adorable, not-so-hairy husband Harry (Evan Handler) of cheating on her. She runs off with her daughters Lily and Rose, but it turns out that Harry was just meeting with a contractor because he was building her dream house. So they get back together and live happily ever after. Boooring.

Damnit, after Miranda and Steve in the first movie, let's hope these two aren't apart for too long.

- Miranda Hobbs (Cynthia Nixon) leaves her workaholic lawyer life behind when she gets sued for malpractice and instead she bonds with little Brady and opens up a restaurant with Steve. How old is Brady now—16? Since when are Miranda and Steve foodies? The only food moments I recall with them are getting pizza and that time that Miranda ate the chocolate cookie out of the garbage ... which I guess could make for an interesting restaurant concept?

Reminds of Lynette/Tom's restaurant venture in Desperate Housewives. Not too sure about this one. Why can't her and Steve just retain seperate jobs and stay together?

- It’s also rumored that Stanford Blatch (Willie Garson) will marry wedding planner Anthony Marentino (Mario Cantone). Just imagine what a gay wedding planner could do with his own wedding! Plus, Liza Minnelli is going to sing at their wedding reception! Eep! [Brisbane Times]

As a gay man, I can't relate to either Stanford or Anthony and to be honest, I've never been that fond of either. Plus these two can't stand the other so them marrying does seem to be a bit of a stretch as well. Still it's more likely to be a small subplot anyways. I'll stick to Kevin and Scotty on Brothers And Sisters.

Production for Sex And The City 2 has begun and will be released during summer 2010.
