Buffy Hulu Reboot: Ryan Kiera Armstrong Cast As New Lead

Three months ago, a reboot for Buffy The Vampire Slayer was announced for Hulu with Sarah Michelle Gellar reprising her iconic character. Now we've got first new lead.

Ryan Kiera Armstrong, whose credits include American Horror Story: Double Feature and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew was announced yesterday as the new slayer for the upcoming reboot, via an Instagram chat with series star and executive producer, Sarah Michelle Gellar. Her reaction to the casting was rather sweet but something stood out for me.

During the announcement, Sarah Michelle Gellar talked about a new Sunnydale. During the original series, the town stood on top of the Hellmouth and eventually got destroyed in the series finale. It's been over twenty years but I'm wondering what exactly might have brought the fictional town back to life.

Right now, details on the upcoming show are still relatively vague but with this first piece of casting to come out, more will be coming out over the next year. On a sidenote, both Sarah Michelle Gellar and Alyson Hannigan were recently on a TV talkshow together. I'm betting we'll be seeing Willow in this reboot in some capacity too.

Chloe Zhao will direct the pilot episode with the show being also executive produced by Sarah Michelle Gellar alongside Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, Kaz Kuzui, and Dolly Parton. Nora and Lilla Zuckerman are credited as the writers for the show.

Filming for this Buffy reboot has yet to be confirmed. I'll be posting as many updates as possible.
