Bridgerton - Season 5 In Production: Franchaela Rises

In news that should shock absolutely no one whatsoever, not only has the fifth season of popular Netflix Regency series Bridgerton has gone into production but we now know who the focused romance will be.

The focus for Season 5 will be on Francesca Stirling (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza). I can't say that I'm surprised by this news but what do we know about the upcoming season that's now being filmed? Here goes.
  • Eight episodes as per usual and likely another split season release.
  • Takes place two years after the death of John Stirling (Victor Alli).
  • Francesca goes back to the marriage mart for practical reasons.
  • Michaela returns to London to the Kilmartin estate, complicating Francesca's feelings for her.
  • Show runner Jess Brownell has talked about how groundbreaking it feels to write a sapphic relationship for the show.
  • Benedict will be an ally to Francesca.
My overall thoughts would be delight. The show have nicely been building things up between the pair during the third and fourth seasons. Season 5 feels like the right time to put the Francesca/Michaela relationship to the forefront and hopefully book fans can approach it with an open mind. I do feel bad for the book fans of Francesca/Michael and Eloise/Phillip fans who have to wait another season for them but I am happy for Francesca/Michaela.

When it comes to LGBT characters and romances, the first season of Bridgerton did have Sir Henry Granville (Julian Ovenden) as a gay artist and then there's Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) right hand Brimsley (Hugh Sachs). He's gay and prequel series Queen Charlotte explored the younger version (Sam Clemmett) having a clandestine relationship with King George's secretary, Reynolds (Freddie Dennis). Then there's ...

Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) himself. The show stuck to his book relationship with Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) but both the third and fourth seasons did explore his relationships with men, which included a rather nice coming out scene between Benedict and Sophie. All of this does make me optimistic that the show won't drop the ball with Francesca and Michaela.

Season 5 of Bridgerton is currently filming in London. It's likely that it will be released in 2027 on Netflix.

The Cottage Again, 90s Love And Game Time

And once again, here we are with a catch up of everything I've been watching since the last time I did one of these.

911: Will this show ever give audiences what they truly want with Buck and Eddie or are doomed to this weird place both characters are stuck in for eternity? They continue to act like a couple without actually being one and Eddie went into protective boyfriend mode during Buck's kidnapping episode. It's really long past time for this show to either go there with Buddie or give them permanent love interests.

911: Nashville: There's no denying that this show might be the weakest in the brand but there's a few moments where some hints of improvement are creeping in. I liked Don's flashbacks with Dixie and Blythe, the Blue/Taylor romance has potential and we even got some backstory for Roxy. Not to mention having Buck and Eddie appear certainly didn't hurt things.

Bridgerton: Into the second half of the love story between Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek. While their wedding was a mid credit scene (odd choice), the show did an excellent job with building towards their romantic conclusion. Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha absolutely delivered in their scenes together. Also, who the hell is the new Lady Whistledown? There was also Anthony/Kate's return, Francesca losing John, Violet choosing herself and good scenes with Queen Charlotte/Lady Danbury but the show could've done something with Cressida and Araminta.

How To Get To Heaven From Belfast: How do you follow up a show like Derry Girls? Lisa McGee certainly had a task on her hands but this turned out to be a worthy follow up. Saoirse, Robyn and Dara working together to solve the mystery of their "dead" friend. Some familiar faces in the mix with Bronagh Gallagher on fine form as well as the more skittish Saoirse Monica Jackson. Oh and that ending nicely set up a potential second season.

Love Story: Ryan Murphy will forever stoke ire for these anthologies based on real people but the more they're watched, the more he's gonna keep making them. Paul Anthony Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon are on great form with the show giving a good depiction of John F. Kennedy Jr and Carolyn Bessette's turbulent relationship. I do think Pidgeon's the stronger actor of the two but Kelly held his own. Saying that, Naomi Watts was a bit wasted as Jackie Kennedy.

Vladimir: You know what, I totally get it. Netflix wanted a more unhinged version of Fleabag and this show kind of did that. I can't blame Rachel Weisz going cuckoo for Leo Woodall's titular character and her obsession with him was oddly entertaining to watch. Less interesting was anything involving the family of Weisz's character and some of the MeToo commentary just didn't land as well as it could've done. Given it's viewership numbers, I wouldn't expect a second season though.

  • Netflix have officially cast their Scooby Doo live action show. McKenna Grace, Tanner Hagen, Abby Ryder Forston and Maxwell Jenkins will play Daphne, Shaggy, Velma and Fred respectively. Frank Weller will voice Scooby Doo.
  • Amazon Prime has renewed Cross for a third season. The second season is currently being released weekly.
  • The White Lotus has added more to its cast including Max Greenfield, Kumail Nanjiani and Chloe Bennett to name a few. Filming begins in France next month.

  • ABC have renewed both 911 shows for further seasons.

  • The Vampire Lestat (aka Interview With The Vampire Season 3) will premiere on AMC from June 7th.

Silver Ladies, Superhero Revivals And No Ninth Episodes

And here's my first TV Jumble Blog of 2026. There's still some shows that I need to catch up but here's a look at what I've seen so far.

Bridgerton: And we're back. Netflix are committing to this split season idea as the fourth season has Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha front and centre. Yes, Sophie Baek is the Lady In Silver and Benedict (our diamond this season), lovestruck as he might be hasn't figured that out in four episodes so far. What else this season? Oh, Sophie's stepmother isn't a nice person, Lady Danbury was trying to prime her own successor for the Queen so she could leave the country, Francesca couldn't reach the pinnacle and Penelope seemed to be struggling with being publicly known as Lady Whistledown. Oh and maid wars.

Stranger Things: New Year's Day for everyone outside the US saw the end of this long running show. Don't worry there's an animated spin off coming soon. Anyways, we got two hours and a lot of characters and arcs to resolve. To get the elephant out of the room, there wasn't a secret ninth episode and that's not a bad thing. I didn't love this finale but I didn't hate it either. I think it did the best it could to give the most important characters satisfying endings. As for Eleven, I have my own belief that she didn't totally perish.

The Night Manager: I slept on this show for nearly a decade and in the space of a month, I watched both seasons back to back. For the most part, I think I preferred the first season to the second but even the latter was still mostly good. Tom Hiddleston's on fine form as Jonathan Pine and the many aliases he's taken in the show. His best scene partners were undoubtedly Hugh Laurie as Richard Roper and Diego Calva as Richard's estranged son, Teddy. There's some strong supporting roles for both Olivia Colman and Indira Varma to boot.

The Seven Dials Mystery: Normally, I'd assume this would have been a BBC production, considering that they've been the ones adapting Agatha Christie stories for a while now. However, Netflix got this one and made it into a three episode miniseries. It was also written by Chris Chibnall and it's pretty decent. Mia McKenna-Bruce, Martin Freeman and Helena Bonham-Carter are all on fine form. However like a lot of the BBC adaptations of late, it did lag a little bit. Still watchable though.

Wonder Man: I'm not gonna lie - my expectations for this show were low. The trailers were underwhelming and the fact that Disney+ released it all in one day didn't inspire confidence. Then I watched the show and witnessed a brilliant double act with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley and I couldn't have been more wrong. I need more scenes with Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery. This eight episodes series was really enjoyable. I thought the MCU version of The Studio couldn't work but I was wrong. This show definitely is worth watching.

Burned By Paris

It's been a while since I've done one of these but again, a look at most of the recent things I've watched over the past few weeks.

Bridgerton: I enjoyed the first half of the third season and the second half had a lot to live up to. Did it manage to do so? I'd say it actually did as the remaining four episodes not only had Penelope and Colin go full steam ahead with their nuptials along with the very public reveal of Penelope being Lady Whistledown. I do feel the Whistledown was almost too easily resolved with the Queen but the Polin love story worked overall. Other highlights in the second half included Francesca's continued expansion as a character as well as tapping into Benedict's bisexuality. Bring on the next season.

Interview With The Vampire: I'm not sure if releasing the second season during the summer was a wise idea on AMC's part but on the other hand, how fucking good was this season overall? The big flashback episode with Daniel was amazing as was Claudia's death and the deconstruction of Louis and Armand's relationship. While I do think that Lestat could've been reintroduced into the main action quicker, when he did return, it was a much welcome jolt to this season. Santiago made for such a horrible baddie that his comeuppance was truly satisfying and yes, Daniel became a vampire. Great stuff overall.

The Bear: Yes, I watched the third season in two days. While not as good as the first two seasons (I found the opener very sluggish), there was still a lot to recommend. Specifically episodes such as Napkins and Ice Chips, both of which are likely Emmy contenders next year. The guest stars being utilised pretty, especially the likes of Will Poulter and Olivia Colman in the finale but I do feel that Carmy as a character hasn't progressed and some of his scenes with both Sydney and Richie often felt repetitive this season. Not to mention the neverending threat of the restaurant getting closed down. Other than that, it's still worth watching.

The Boys: Season 4 of this superhero show certainly got more political than ever before and to the point where the type of people who often missed the point of Homelander as a character, realised they were the very people being lampooned. Anyways we got two new supes with Firecracker and Sister Sage being strong additions, A-Train showing character growth with The Deep and Black Noir II doing the exact opposite. Homelander got worse, Ashley freaked out more, Ryan flip flopped as did Victoria Newman. As for the good guys, Butcher hallucinated a former comrade, Frenchie briefly had a boyfriend, Kimiko spoke her first word, MM had massive anxiety, Hughie got traumatised repeatedly and Annie had to deal with rivals wrecking her life and her powers being on the fritz. Oh and characters from Gen V popped up. Certainly wasn't a boring season.

The Jetty: Ah, Jenna Coleman. It's been a while since we last had her on our screen and this four part BBC detective series served as a reminder of how compelling an actor she can be. Ember Manning turned out to be a complicated character, navigating her relationships between her mother and daughter while also trying to resolve a case from her teenage years. I'll admit the flashbacks were a bit confusing to begin with and the podcaster had some heavy handed dialogue in parts but as a series, I thought it got stronger in the second half with a surprise twist that worked well. Could it come back for a second series? I don't see why not.

  • Luke Thompson fans rejoice. Netflix have announced that Benedict and Sophie will be the love story of the fourth season of Bridgerton in 2026.
  • The Boys fifth and final season is currently being written and will be released on Amazon in 2026. Season 2 of Gen V will premiere in 2025.
  • Interview With The Vampire Season 2 will air on BBC2 from August 1st at 9pm. AMC have renewed the show for a third season.
  • The fate of Chucky currently remains in flux. An announcement on its future should be soon.
  • Filming for the third season of House Of The Dragon's third season has been rumoured for later this year.
  • Welcome To Derry will air on HBO as well being streamed on Max as will Dune: Prophecy.
  • Kim Cattrall has confirmed she will not be returning for the third season of And Just Like That. However, Mehcad Brooks, Jonathan Cake and Logan Marshall-Green will recur in the new season.
  • Maura Tierney has joined the cast of Law And Order.
  • Grey's Anatomy will add a new gay male character for it's upcoming twenty first season.
  • Tatiana Maslany and Cory Michael Smith will lead the horror comedy series, Nightbeast for Amazon.
  • Julia has been cancelled after two seasons by Max.

Second Bites, Polin, Dollish Hell And More

Another monthly round up of some of the shows I've watched in the last few weeks.

Bridgerton: Netflix really won't go down the weekly releases, so they'll compromise for these split seasons instead. Also this show decided to switch book orders and instead of Benedict/Sophie, we've got Penelope and Colin instead. These first four episodes certainly ended on the cliffhanger of a marriage proposal but between then, Penelope has an alternative with Debling and Colin was enjoying threesomes. Other than the Polin romance, there was wedded Anthony/Kate bliss, an interesting friendship with Eloise/Cressida, the arrival of Lady Danbury's brother and the Queen taking an interest in Francesca. I'd say this was a strong first half to the season, which will conclude on June 13th.

Chucky: With a fourth season not yet confirmed, this season chose to end on a massive and rather mad cliffhanger. Even if we don't get a fourth season, Don Mancini will likely get a movie to tie up loose ends. As for the cliffhanger. Well, Chucky escaped death yet again, Tiffany went back into a Belle Doll body, Caroline's definitely beyond saving and Nica walked in on Jake, Lexy and Devon as marionettes. In between all of that, Chucky nearly nuked another country, we had trips into the afterlife with multiple Chuckys and the White House got burned to the ground. I enjoyed this mad season a lot.

Fallout: Video game adaptations continue to be a massive seller and Amazon have struck gold with this one. I've never played the game and I don't intend to but I enjoyed watching the arcs of Lucy, Maximus and Howard the Ghoul throughout the eight episodes that made up the first season. There's a career defining performance from Ella Purnell and she's an excellent protagonist as Lucy. The pacing's a bit slow in parts but it's certainly worth the watch.

Interview With The Vampire: The first season of this Southern Gothic series certainly got a lot of buzz when it was released in October 2022 but I'm thinking the meagre marketing and early summer release might not have helped this second season. A shame because while the first episode was sluggish, I really liked the second episode. Lestat might be relegated to brief scenes for now but it's given Louis and Claudia time to shine in Paris with Armand, Santiago and the rest of the gang. The present day interview with Daniel now aware of Armand's existence certainly upped the tension.

Shogun: FX's lavish reboot of this popular miniseries certainly has become the biggest show of the year so far. The popularity skyrocketed that this went from a one off miniseries to getting a two season renewal with most of the cast slated to return. I have to admit there were times I did struggle with it as the show alternated between Japanese and English but the cast were brilliant, the show looked gorgeous and it's nice to see these type of shows connect with a wider audience.

  • Jonathan Bailey will guest as Jack Maddox in the third season of Heartstopper, which Netflix will release in October.
  • The fourth and finale season of The Umbrella Academy will be released from August 8th on Netflix.

  • The Boys has been renewed for a fifth season by Amazon. Gen V will write out Chance Perdomo's character instead of a recast.
  • Max have cancelled The Girls On The Bus after one season.
  • The Conners has been renewed for a seventh and final season.
  • Industry Season 3 will premiere from August 11th on HBO.

Blundering Up A Deathstorm

Usual thing, it's been a while but here are some shows I've watched in the meantime.

911: Season 5 has been ticking over rather nicely as a season with the last few episodes adding some new recruits to the station with Lucy and Jonah, Buck's relationship with Taylor revealing more on her own past and the much needed returns of both Maddie and Howie along with Eddie dealing with his past traumas. As usual, there's some way cases along the way and heartwarming moments from various characters.

Bridgerton: Season 1 of this glossy period piece was appointment television and one of the biggest boosts for Netflix and Season 2 managed to do it all over again. I thought the show  might have trouble topping the Daphne/Simon story but the Anthony/Kate (and Edwina, breaking from book lore) managed to be even more compelling while the consequences of Lady Whistledown's getting on Queen Charlotte's nerves definitely came to a head during an incredible confrontation between Penelope and Eloise.Other highlights included Benedict getting high as a kite, the flashbacks for Papa Bridgerton, Newton the dog and of course, Lady Featherington trying to outsmart Jack throughout the season. Needless to say, I'll definitely be watching the next season.

Derry Girls: Four episodes into the third and final series of this gem of a show and it's been some of the best comedy in the last decade. While creator Lisa McGee is definitely right to end the show on a high instead of overextending it's natural life span, I am going to miss these characters and I know, there's three episodes left to go but still. So far, this series we've had the girls and James pass their GSCEs along with talent shows, train journeys and clearing out the wrong house. Not to mention sublime guest appearances from the likes of Liam Neeson, Damien Molony, Amy Huberman, Sinead Keenan and Conleth Hill. I'm confident the finale will absolutely stick the landing.

Killing Eve: What an absolute train wreck of a final season this turned out to be. If you thought that Game Of Thrones ended on a bad note, then this one surpassed it. This whole season was little more than an absolute snorefest and I had a horrible feeling the moment the show decided to go there with Eve and Villanelle, something would undercut it. Needless to say it did and in a rather spectacularly bad way. Both Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer tried their best but not even their talents alone could say this season from ending the show on a needlessly unpleasant note.

Moon Knight: On to the sixth Disney+ MCU show and I have to be honest, this one was something of a mixed bag for me. While Oscar Isaac does a great job as Steven Grant/Mr Knight and Marc Spector/Moon Knight (and very briefly, Jake Lockley), the pacing for this show felt somewhat sluggish in parts and it really took a while for things to properly get going. Still, we got a good villain with Ethan Hawke's Arthur Darrow, Kayla's transformation into Scarlet Scarab was nicely handled and I'm all for more horror and supernatural elements in the MCU.

The Flash: Quick note: I'll see out the remaining episodes of this season but after that, I am done with this series. I've been trying my best but I've genuinely gotten to the point where I can no longer watch this show. It's become far too much of a chore to sit through and it desperately needs to end now, regardless of it's ratings on the CW. The Deathstorm arc was mostly a mess,, Frost's death had no real impact and the time sickness story with Iris has been dragging out for far too long. The only plus has been brief returns of Sue, Ronnie and Eddie in recent episodes.

  • Max Greenfield, Gabourey Sidibe, Nico Greetham, Bella Thorne and Dominique Jackson are some of the actors appearing in the second season of American Horror Stories.
  • American Horror Story's eleventh season has been rumoured to have some filming in New York, a first for the series.
  • House Of The Dragon will premiere on HBO from August 21st and on SkyAtlantic the next day.
  • Jack Ryan will end after four seasons on Amazon.
  • Filming for the seventh season of Outlander has begun while the sixth season has recently finished airing on Starz.
  • And Just Like That has been renewed for a second season.
  • The Nancy Drew spin off, Tom Swift will premiere on the CW from May 31st.
  • Maisie Williams will star in the upcoming Apple show, The New Look.
  • Julia has been renewed for a second season by HBO Max.
  • Jason Isaacs and Lior Raz have joined Apple anthology series, The Crowded Room.

Oh, Brother, You Don't Look The Same

A bit unusual for me but two TV Jumble blogs this month and here is the second one ...

Batwoman: The show took a two week break before coming back with a nice enough character piece that gave Ryan an old enemy to confront, a young boy's life to save and an ex-girlfriend to reconnect with. The same ex who also seems to be involved with Ocean, that guy that Safiyah wants Alice to kill who also has a romantic past with Alice to boot. On top of that, there's more hints of Black Mask coming, Jacob actually can work with a new Batwoman while Sophie, Mary and Luke all have different ways to deal with Kate's absence.

Bridgerton: I've finally finished the series and needless to say, I will be coming back for seconds. The second half of the season certainly put Simon and Daphne through the gamut while Eloise's hunt for Lady Whistledown surprisingly led to the latter's identity being revealed a lot earlier than expected. There was also the social downfall of the Featheringtons, a near scandal for Colin, Anthony reassessing his priorities and Benedict embarking on his own sexual escapades though sadly not with Henry. Maybe next season.

Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina: I have to admit that while I liked the final season enough for the most part, there's no denying that it felt very rushed for it's own good. The Eldritch Terrors were often easily dispatched off and Sabrina and Nick's own 'happy ending'  was a questionable way to end the series. I did like the return of the original Hilda and Zelda from the 90s series and the show certainly had fun with the two Sabrinas angle but overall, this was hastily ended series.

Schitt's Creek: Finishing up the second half of the third season, I really have come to love this series and these batch of episodes were some of the best yet. The introduction of Noah Reid's Patrick has certainly been a great addition to the series and while I'm surprised they didn't hold off a little before David and Patrick got to share their big kiss, I can see why so many love this couple. Now it's time to move on to the fourth season.

WandaVision: These last two episodes have been quite the adventure for the show. Is Wanda really controlling everything? SWORD think so. Both Norm and Agnes have implied to Vision that she is and anyone who has threatened Wanda's newly created world has paid for it. However it does feel like someone else has been pulling the strings and the return of Pietro with a new face definitely raises more questions too along with Wanda and Vision's rapidly aging kids. Along with the brilliant trio of Monica, Jimmy and Darcy, things really are heating up now.

  • Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsay have been cast in the lead roles for HBO's upcoming adaptation of The Last Of Us.
  • JJ Abrams and HBO Max will be doing a reboot of  Constantine with a BIPOC lead. Guy Bolton will be head writer for the series.
  • CBS will be ending both Mom and NCIS: New Orleans with their current seasons.

  • Simone Ashley will play Kate Sharma, who will be the love interest for Anthony in the second season of Bridgerton.
  • Brooklyn Nine Nine will also be ending with it's eighth season.
  • Angus Macfadyen has been cast as Jor El for Superman And Lois.

To Ruse Is To Confuse

I know, it's been over a month since my last TV Jumble blog but here's some of the shows I have been catching up on in the last few weeks.

Batwoman: Season 2 of this show has gotten off to a surprisingly strong start with managing to seam on Javicia Leslie's Ryan Wilder as the new Batwoman but at the same time not completely abandoning the idea that maybe one day Kate Kane will return to Gotham. The first three episodes not only saw Luke and Mary guide Ryan on her new role but also had both Jacob and Sophie aware of Kate's former identity, resolved the Tommy as Bruce plot very speedily and had Alice coax Safiyah out of hiding while giving us an entertaining version of Victor Zsasz. That's good work for only three episodes so far.

Bridgerton: Shonda Rhimes has spent the last fifteen years giving ABC many a glossy hit and it was only a matter of time before she moved to Netflix and would wind up giving them one of their biggest shows. I'm halfway through the first season of this soapy period drama and while  there are times, it can feel a bit silly, it's massively enjoyable with the ruse between Simon and Daphne causing more problems than solutions, the writings of Lady Whistledown being akin to Gossip Girl but there are some entertaining characters like Benedict, Eloise, Penelope, Lady Danbury and Queen Charlotte to watch here.

Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina: It's the final season and the Eldritch Terrors along with Faustus (who has long since worn out his welcome) are among us. In the first half of this last season, we've seen Sabrina (x2) and the gang come up against terrors such as Uninvited, Weird and Perverse with the Void also getting closer and closer. We've had seen Hilda get married, Caliban try to get rid pf Lilith and Adam, Roz find out she's a witch and Nick declaring end game for himself and Sabrina. Let's see what the remaining four have to offer.

Schitt's Creek: I'm halfway through the third season and I'm loving this show so much at the moment that I don't want it to end. So far I've seen both David and Stevie the gorgeous himbo Jake and was a little sad to see him go. Still, at least David and Stevie got businesses to run, the latter with Johnny, Alexis went back to school, Moira decided not to do another horror movie and Ted became a thirst trap for a few minutes.

WandaVision:
Disney+ have had an excellent time with a certain Pedro Pascal show doing impressive numbers for them, so after an 18 month absence, it was time for the MCU to come back swinging with the first of many shoes they have lined up for the next few years. Four episodes in and this series has mixed wonderful sitcom tropes with an underlying darkness to come out as the Multiverse so being set up, Wanda's grief has made a fantasy dream/imminent nightmare for herself and Vision, while SWORD has roped in Monica Rambeau, Darcy Lewis and Jimmy Woo into the mix to fix things. This is definitely one of the best things that the MCU and set the bar for the other shows to come.

  • Superman And Lois will premiere on the CW from February 23rd. It will be now 15 episodes instead of 13 as originally planned.
  • The CW have already renewed 12 shows including Riverdale, Charmed, Walker, Batwoman, Legends Of Tomorrow as well as The Flash.
  • American Horror Story's tenth season has begun filming and Sarah Paulson has teased a different hair colour and cool name for the character she will play this season.
  • Marilyn Manson's scenes from American Gods have been removed.
  • The Stabler spin off is titled Law And Order: Organised Crime.
  • Disney+ now plan to do a series set in Wakanda, expanding the Black Panther side of the MCU.
  • Tian Richards will play Tom Swift for the upcoming Nancy Drew spin off on the CW.
  • HBO Max will release all of It's A Sin from February 18th. The miniseries has pulled in over 6.5 million for Channel 4 and All4.
  • The remaining episodes of The Walking Dead will air February 28th onwards.
  • Azie Tesfai will write an episode for the finale season of Supergirl.
