Glee Renewed For Seasons 5 & 6

Well, it's true. It seems that while this show might not be the powerhouse it once was, FOX have still announced that Glee will be returning for both a fifth and a sixth season yesterday.

I think like most people, a fifth season of the show was completely expected but a sixth one on top of it seemed to come out of nowhere. Can the show really justify running for a sixth season, especially if by the end of it's fifth run, virtually all of the newbies will have graduated? To me, it seems more like the show is probably drawing to it's natural conclusion and it will be interesting to see if these two seasons can retain the bigger original cast members as well, though it's likely they may become recurring guest stars and there are rumours that Ryan Murphy might not have as much input next season due to the amount of projects he's taking on - American Horror Story: Coven for FX, The New Normal for NBC and both The Normal Heart and Open for HBO.

As for The Glee Project, that show's future seems to be in murkier territory. An announcement for a third season has yet to be made. Personally, I was able to watch bits of the first season but decided not to bother with the second season. I don'imt think this particular show really does need or justify renewal but that's my own personal opinion on the matter.

Glee - Season 3 Spoilers

Okay, so I'll be posting some thoughts on Mash Off later in the week in my TV jumble but here are some spoilers for the last three episodes of Season 3 of Glee to air in 2011 before the show returns in 2012.

The show's seventh episode I Kissed A Girl will not only see Santana singing that bloody Katy Perry song but it's also the episode where she has to come out to her parents while the results for the school election are back in. Brittany surely has to win that one, right? Then again, maybe Kurt could seal the deal too. Elsewhere, Quinn quickly learns that Puck and Shelby have gotten closer and she plans to use that to her advantage.

The show's eighth episode, Hold On To Sixteen is this year's Sectionals episode and it's also the one where Sam finally returns and we meet his parents. Also, it's an episode where Rachel gets suspended, her and Quinn reach out to each other, Mercedes and Santana do a mash-up of I Will Survive/Survivor and Kurt and Sebastian square off. Sebastian's cute but he's a tad too smarmy, so I'm hoping Kurt takes him down a peg or two. Oh and Harmony from the first episode makes a reappearance too and there's performances of Man In The Mirror and Red Cup Solo as well in this episode.

The last episode to air for 2011 is called Extraordinary Merry Christmas and it's a Christmas one directed by Matthew Morrison. It also looks like Sam is back at McKinley and New Directions and Troubletones have merged as well. There's also an appearance of Chewbacca, courtesy of Artie as well another appearance from Harmony and the other two Glee Project winners (one of them playing Puck's cousin, the other involved in scenes with Jesse - yes, he's back too). The soundtrack for the Christmas episode is due out shortly and here's a tracklist from it and you can find some of the songs on YouTube at the moment.

1. All I Want For Christmas Is You Featuring Amber Riley (Mercedes)
2. Extraordinary Merry Christmas Featuring Darren Criss (Blaine) and Lea Michele (Rachel)
3. Santa Baby Featuring Naya Rivera (Santana)
4. Christmas Eve With You Featuring Jayma Mays (Emma) and Mathew Morrison (Will)
5. Little Drummer Boy Featuring Kevin McHale (Artie)
6. River Featuring Lea Michele (Rachel)
7. Do You Hear What I Hear? Featuring Lindsay Pearce (Glee Project) and Alex Newell (Glee Project)
8. Let It Snow Featuring Darren Criss (Blaine) and Chris Colfer (Kurt)
9. Santa Claus Is Coming To Town Featuring Mark Sailing (Puck), Cory Monteith (Finn) and Samuel Larsen (Glee Project)
10. Christmas Wrapping Featuring Heather Morris (Brittany)
11. Blue Christmas Featuring Damian McGinty (Rory)
12. Do They Know It’s Christmas Featuring Cory Monteith (Finn), Amber Riley (Mercedes), Lea Michele (Rachel), Chris Colfer (Kurt), Kevin McHale (Artie), Heather Morris (Brittany), Mark Salling (Puck), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), Naya Rivera (Santana)

Glee continues to air on FOX, Tuesdays at 8pm from November 29th and on Sky1, Thursdays at 9pm from December 1st.

The Glee Project Winner/Glee - Season 3 Trailer

With the show back on our screens next month, here are some bits worth knowing ...

The Glee Project: I tried to sit through this show but literally couldn't do it and thanks to it finishing in America and the winners being announced, I don't need to watch the remainder of the series on Sky1. Okay, so both Damien and Samuel were joint winners which means they get to appear in seven episodes of the upcoming third season. Runners up Alex and Lindsay will appear in two episodes and none of them are playing the new characters already mentioned (Bubba, Sheila and Sugar).

Glee: A trailer for the third season has been released and it's a lovely concept one. Basically, it features Sue hurling dodgeballs at Will, Emma, Beiste, Rachel, Finn, Kurt, Blaine, Artie, Tina, Mike, Mercedes, Puck, Quinn, Brittany, Santana and Becky's in the trailer to. The song playing in it is called We Got The Beat.

Season 3 of Glee airs Tuesdays at 8pm on FOX from September 20th and will air on both Sky1 and TV3 shortly afterwards.

Glee - Season 3 News/Other Stuff

Okay, it's going to be a while before Season 3 of Glee hits the airwaves (that's Sky1 for UK viewers now) but with the cast on tour in the US and by next week, the UK and Ireland, there's some stuff to savour.
Six new staff writers have been added to the series for it's third year. Amongst the writers are Allison Adler, Roberto Aguirre Sacasa, Ross Maxwell, Matt Hodgson Michael Hitchcock and of course, Marti Noxon, the woman who has written for Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Brothers And Sisters, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice and Mad Men. It seems the new influx of writers are here to help with the four new characters being added to the series as well as the main characters.

I should point out one of the four new characters being added for a seven episode arc will come from the reality show The Glee Project, airing on the Oxygen Network. No UK broadcaster has decided to take on this show yet but I'm hearing the ratings aren't exactly impressive for the series. Maybe you can have too much of a good thing. Darren Criss was a guest judge on the first episode of the series.

Elsewhere with tours and stuff, the cast have been sticking in the media for different reasons. Naya Rivera has gotten a solo album deal, both Darren Criss and Kevin McHale have appeared in the video for Katy Perry's Last Friday Night, Dianna Agron's "Likes Girls" T-Shirt has generated headlines and both Chris Colfer and Lea Michele have been showing up in Emmy Roundtable videos with various other actors from TV shows. Even when it's not on the telly, it seems you can't escape from Glee.
