My Review of Gotham's 2x11: "Worse Than A Crime"

Written by Bruno Heller
Directed by Jeffrey Hunt

Father Creel: "Prepare yourself, boy."
Bruce: "You're a deluded old fool and you'll pay for this."

And this was certainly an episode to leave things hanging with, wasn't it? On the plus side, it does seem like the Brotherhood/Dumas prophecy stuff might have been taken care but oddly enough, this episode didn't quite finish off Theo, Tabitha and Silver as I had expected it too. Not entirely sure how I feel about that.

Theo did however get something of a comedown though. His attempts of sacrificing Bruce failed, both Tabitha and Silver turned against him, Oswald beat the crap out of him and then both the future Penguin and Gordon killed him. Except maybe not with that one.

Instead Theo's body got taken to Indian Hill where it looks like he's going to be part of an experiment regime that will clearly dominate the second half of the season when it returns in February. Personally, I probably would've just killed him off properly but if the writers can justify keeping the character around for another eleven episodes, then I'll keep an open mind.

I did like the team of characters during this episode trying to get Bruce back/get revenge on Theo. Having Gordon, Bullock, Leslie (kind of), Selina, Alfred, Lucious, Oswald and Nygma (sort of) all working and interacting with each other was actually a lot of fun and made for some genuinely interesting scenes but having said that, I knew Oswald's desire for revenge would pose a later problem for the unlikely partnership.

As for the rest of the episode, it didn't really feel like a great deal actually happened aside from some choice prison moments with Bruce and Silver, the setting up of Indian Hill and of course the brief showing of Mr Freeze at the end of this one. Oh and Leslie being pregnant too. Yes, the show went there with her and Gordon.

Also in "Worse Than A Crime"

Benjamin McKenzie and Morena Baccarin are expected a child together in real life. It does seem a little strange the show incorporated it as well.

Oswald (to Gordon): "If ever there was a time for us to work together, now would be that time."

Gordon and Leslie know that Nygma and Oswald are friends. That has to change office dynamics, right?

Bruce: "I have no feelings for you whatsoever."
Selina: "But I like you."

Oswald: "I can hear you."
Leslie: "Don't speak."

Bruce's favourite animal is an Owl. Hinting at something there, Heller? Hugo Strange was also name checked in this episode.

Bruce: "Silver, I don't love you. I pity you."

Theo: "What are you doing?"
Tabitha: "I don't know who you are anymore."
Theo: "That's such a ridiculous cliche."

We got an exclusive clip of Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice during this episode. A new trailer for the movie is surfacing tomorrow.

Oswald (to Gordon): "Think of Gotham but think very fast."

Chronology: From where The Son Of Gotham left off.

As a mid series finale, this was a good one to end on. Worse Than A Crime worked more for the stuff it set up than it actually solved and I am looking forward to the arcs with Mr Freeze and Hugo Strange/Indian Hill when the show returns in February.

Rating: 7 out of 10

Strangely enough, the in-show pregnancy was planned before the real one was known.
