Max: "Avery, I love you. I love you."
Didn't we have the exact same exchange between Max and Avery in the previous episode? This throuple keeps going through the same plot beats over and over again. Yet, none of the three seem to be on the same page with one another one.
Avery once again decided to go for the casual approach. She wanted the sex and not the romance. Partially motivated by sex positive author Mona Yeager (Whitney Cummings) but also down to not wanting to complicate things further with Max and Tristan.
Tristan at this point will go along with anything Avery wants, given his eagerness to be with her but Max does seem to be leaning further into traditional thinking. That's probably why he was assigned trad wife, Penny and her husband Gabe this week.
Anyways the split groups of sex positive women versus the trad wives coven was actually pretty decently handled. Especially when a food fight between the two had Robert snapping at both groups. It worked because they ended up finding common ground.
The one thing I did find a bit puzzling was the lack of interaction with Mona and Penny. On the other hand, both their medical problems that sort of countered their stances were handled pretty well, with Max and Avery in supporting roles but I do wish we had seen them converse more.
As for Robert, his storyline this week involved Heather (off screen) losing their baby. In the space of three episodes, that's two pregnancy storylines that came to an abrupt ending and with next week kicking off a two part potential series finale, I guess many loose ends are being quickly wrapped up.
- Our Lady J has previously directed episodes for Pose and American Horror Story: NYC.
- Could they not get Shania Twain back for this episode? It would've been nice to have seen Robert and Heather grief together.
- Both groups ended up bonding over wanting to help Penny and a hand lotion.
- Chronology: Not long from where the previous episode left off.
Double Booked made for another okay episode. The throuple beats have gotten too repetitive and while Robert's grief and the opposing guest groups had their moments, both could've also been handled better.
Rating: 6 out of 10
