My Review of Doctor Odyssey: "The Wave, Part 2"

Max (to Avery): "This is not our song."

And so potentially endeth this show. It started on a mediocre note, got a little interesting, got more mediocre and has ended on a mediocre note. I really wanted this show to be better than it was and despite the casting trying their hardest, it could barely keep it's head above water.

Let's get to the triangle first. Max, Avery and Tristan have been a source of contention as a throuple. I won't deny there's an invested fanbase in the trio but this show played it way too straight and way too boring for it's own good.

The outcome was Avery choosing Max, her independence and medical school all at once. Aside from quibbles about breaking the bro code, Tristan seemed to handle Max and Avery as a couple better than expected. It still ended with the trio lounging on the decks with the last scene feeling like an ending.

As for the rest of the episode, Robert found himself having to hand over command to Spencer. Robert was also prepared to leave The Odyssey but his crew members had different ideas and Robert ended up not losing his job after all.

The rest of the episode reunited Barry and Matt, with the former being at death's door, had Tristan help one patient with an unknown pregnancy, Robert console a marriage counsellor and Avery help operate on another patient. All of our main characters got their stories with the guest characters carried over from the first part.

- The show didn't exactly confirm that limbo theory but it definitely hinted it was aware of it too.
- There was a few nods to the pilot episode, including a particular song choice.
- Standout music: Despicito, though Max doesn't seem it as his and Avery's song.
- Chronology: From where the previous episode left off.

I wish The Wave, Part 2 was a better finale. It's an adequate potential series finale but the show as a whole has been largely an unfocused mess with a central triangle that's been less enjoyable to watch. I'm not sure ABC should give this a second season. Perhaps it'd be wise to let this sink.

Rating: 5 out of 10
