Superman: "You need a break."
Batman: "Crime doesn't take a vacation."
I'll admit that while I probably don't need to review these DC Lego movies, they're oddly entertaining to watch and this one was more Batman (Troy Baker) focused to boot.
The premise, let's have Batman take a vacation with Nightwing (Will Friedle) and Batgirl (Sarah Hyland). A vacation that had Batman reunite with former mentor, Madame Mantis (Amy Hill). Except that Mantis wasn't quite how Batman remembered her to be.
That would be because Madame Mantis was actually a Trogowog and they're a group that have been taken over by Bane (Eric Bauza). Bane had the use of a psychic stone and also Deathstroke (John DiMaggio). Past competitive issues between Batman and Bane/Deathstroke reared their head as Grungle (Jason Spisak) had to step up to the plate.
While Bane seemed more the tradition villain for this Lego DC movie, there was a bit more conflict with Deathstroke and the latter's relationships with both Batman and Madame Mantis. Deathstroke even kind of developed a grudging respect for Batman and I mean grudging.
As for Robin (Scott Menville), he had Superman (Nolan North), Wonder Woman (Grey Griffin), Cyborg (Khary Payton), Starfire (Hynden Watch) and Beast Boy (Greg Cipes) to help keep Gotham City safe. They alone should've been enough to keep things crime free but certain rogues had other ideas.
There's a good use of the Joker (Jason Spisak), the Penguin (Tom Kenny), Poison Ivy (Vanessa Marshall), Harley Quinn (Tara Strong) and the Scarecrow (John DiMaggio) as the main mischief makers. They get the jump on the Titans and Justice League members before eventually being defeated. I liked their plot more than the Bane/Deathstroke one.
- This was the first DC Lego movie not to feature The Flash.
- All the main actors from Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go! reprised their roles here.
- The end credits should have an acknowledgement of Bob Kane with Bill Finger as creators of Batman.
- Chronology: Present Day Gotham City and it's also Batman's birthday.
Lego DC Comics Super Heroes: Justice League – Gotham City Breakout had some nice moments but it was the Gotham City plot with the rogues that worked more Deathstroke/Bane plot. I liked this one.
