Yup, it's happening. A series focusing on Supergirl that is aka Superman's 24-year old cousin, Kara Zor-El.
And on CBS of all places, which is what I find more shocking, considering they don't exactly branch out that much in this particular genre but over the last few weeks, it was confirmed that Arrow's executive producer Greg Berlanti will be taking on the show and just like Fox with Gotham, it seems that CBS have decided to go past the usual pilot stage and commission a series outright, which is something of an unusual precedent on their part. A brief description for the project has been revealed ...
The upcoming television series – which has no official title announced just yet – will feature Kara who, like her cousin Kal-El/ Clark Kent/ Superman, managed to escape the devastation of their planet, Krypton. But unlike her famous cousin, Kara kept her powers hidden for over two decades. But then, she finally "decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be."
Given that we haven't had much of the character in a live action setting aside from the Supergirl movie with Helen Slater and Lara Vandervoot's take on the character in the last few seasons of Smallville, it'll be interesting to see if Berlanti and Ali Adler can make a success with this series. Casting for the role has yet to be revealed.

Supergirl will probably air on CBS in the 2015-2016 television season. I'll post more details as they become available.
