I didn't think I was going to do another one of these until Block 4 kicked off but over the last week, some interesting stuff has surfaced in relation to Doctor Who I couldn't ignore blogging about.
It was rumoured back in 2011 that a big screen version of the show could happen and in both 2013 and 2014, audiences were given a chance to see 50th anniversary episode The Day Of The Doctor and 12th Doctor debut Deep Breath in cinemas but according to the latest Wikileaks documents (the gift that keeps on giving it seems), apparently both Sony and BBC Worldwide are keen to produce a big screen adventure for the Time Lord. However, it was also revealed that it won't be happening any time soon, which as far as I'm concerned is more than a good thing. Let's just concentrate on the series itself.
Meanwhile, following the return of the Master as Missy, played by Michelle Gomez last year (and in this upcoming series two part opening story, The Magician's Apprentice/The Witch's Familiar), the latest rumour doing the rounds is that Davros will be returning for Series 9. According to the Mirror (so take with some salt pinching here), the Dalek creator last seen in Series 4's The Stolen Earth/Journey's End will appear in a storyline in the upcoming series where the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) travels to the Daleks' home planet Skaro and encounters Davros on the battlefield. He will then be presented with the moral decision as to whether or not murder the young Davros in order to stop him from creating the mutated monsters. I'm not sure how true this is but right now, regardless of stories, I really do hope we get to see Davros in Capaldi's era pretty soon.
Elsewhere, it seems that we have another cast member for the currently filming The Girl Who Died/The Woman Who Lived story. David Schofield (DaVinci's Demons) has been cast in the role of Odin for the story, which has now been rumoured to be a Viking story. Interestingly enough though it was revealed that originally cast for the role was Brian Blessed (Yrcanos in Mindwarp) but the actor had to pull out due to illness. Hopefully Brian gets better soon but I am looking more and more forward to this particular set of episodes all the more.
Editing this blog piece as the BBC have revealed the monster/robot creature for the episodes currently being filmed. A cryptic photo was released first and then this one soon followed. It's not the scariest looking monster we've had (actually doesn't it look a bit similar to a certain monster from a Colin Baker story?) but it's certainly something alright.
